The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 104 - 105 Ya
Chapter 104: Chapter 105 YaNot true, this is not a secret room, there’s still myself.

Hmm, which means, there’s a high probability that I will be identified as a suspect.

Jiang Shu knew this for certain, but he wasn’t too panicked, he didn’t know who had masterminded the case, but the method employed was indeed very simple.

He could already imagine the evidence that pointed to himself as the murderer, such as the surveillance he had just hacked; if they were to look for traces, they might find them on him; such as his unique identity; such as...

Fingerprints.

Yes, that woman handed him a glass of wine, and his fingerprints might have been taken. Later, when the police come to investigate the scene, they might find his fingerprints at some crucial incriminating spots.

And the surveillance in this secret room, does it have none just because Garcia says so?

Maybe not, perhaps there might also be evidence unfavorable to himself in the surveillance.

But none of this matters, one minute has already passed, and in such a length of time, he was able to deduce the process of the crime in his mind.

He was more concerned about the other party, what the mastermind behind the scenes wanted to do.

”Xiao Jia, check Lonely City’s judicial process, what will happen if I get arrested?” Jiang Shu thought of a possibility, but wasn’t very sure because it really was a bit far-fetched.

However implausible, it was the only possibility.

Jia: For confirmed suspects, judicial first-instance trials occur the next day; if found guilty, the convict enters prison, if found innocent, they are released in court. After a guilty verdict in the first-instance, the convict can file for appeal, and the second-instance trial will occur between seven to fifteen days. During the second-instance, if there is no progress in the case and the judge upholds the original verdict, no further appeals can be made within a year.

”Is that so?” Jiang Shu murmured, ”Thirteen District, besides the Special Prison, are there any other prisons?”

Jia: There is also Hawk Prison.

”Check the occupancy of this prison,” Jiang Shu continued, his voice calm.

Jia: No access to specifics, but general estimates put it at about 95%.

After tonight’s operation, Hawk Prison would likely be full, and given his barely qualifying as a special criminal, if Ya is involved, he would likely be sent to the Special Prison to serve his sentence...

You think I would just show up like this?

Jiang Shu nodded, he had made a decision in his heart. This feeling of the enemy being hidden while he was exposed was unpleasant, but there was a way to break this situation and possibly give him an advantage.

He remained squatting by the edge of the pool, saying nothing.

Finally, until the police took him away, until Seal’s angry subordinates crowded and surrounded him, he remained silent.

—

Police retrieved surveillance footage of the scene, showing only Jiang Shu and Garcia inside the room. Three minutes after Garcia entered the pool, he died from poisoning.

A syringe was found at the scene, with residues of poison and Jiang Shu’s fingerprints on the pressure part.

The poison was muscarine, colorless and odorless, highly soluble in water, with a rapid onset of effect, confirming that Garcia was poisoned in the secret room.

The surveillance camera, positioned in the center of the ceiling with a good angle, had a 360-degree wide angle that captured everything in the room, showing Garcia alone in the pool.

Apart from the unclear motive and specific method of murder, all major evidence pointed directly at Jiang Shu, yet, during the evening interrogation, he still didn’t say a word.

”How did you manage to poison Garcia from a distance?” The police officer sitting across the interrogation table slammed the table, yelling at Jiang Shu.

But Jiang Shu just looked at him, silently not saying a word.

Wolf, in the observation room, watched Jiang Shu’s demeanor, his anger mounting, ”What on earth does he want to do?”

”I don’t know.” Gary’s brow was also furrowed. Subjectively, he didn’t believe that Jiang Shu had killed Garcia, but objectively, overwhelming evidence pointed to Jiang Shu, and he didn’t know what the truth actually was.

”If it was him...” Wolf calmed down a bit, ”If it was Jiang Shu, with his ability, he could have created a flawless murder scene. This clumsy method...”

”Not necessarily.” Gary shook his head, ”Maybe, as you said, Mr. Jiang is very good at Deception, but he might not have the psychological strength to commit a crime, leaving behind so many flaws.”

”His first purple entry was ’Calm.’” Wolf said darkly, looking at Gary.

”Uh.” Gary was stunned, then continued frowning, ”Okay, I understand.”

”Do you still remember your debates with him?” Wolf whispered.

”What?” Gary had some recollection, but he was unclear what Wolf was trying to convey.

”Motives. He values motives highly and subjectively concluded a feigned death of a fox from them,” Wolf continued, ”If it really was him, then what was his motive?”

”His thoughts...” Gary began but then stopped midway, shaking his head and saying no more.

”If it wasn’t him who did it, I’ll find out the real murderer. If it was him, I’ll find out his motive,” Wolf continued, put on his police cap, and turned to leave the interrogation room.

There was no need to watch anymore; the outcome was already certain. At tomorrow’s preliminary trial, Jiang Shu would definitely be convicted.

August 9th, Lonely City Thirteen District, Courtroom No. 3.

The courtroom was somewhat noisy, the seats filled with an audience mingled with snakes and dragons, some were Garcia’s subordinates and others were family and friends.

In the first row, Jiang Shu saw the worry-filled Shen Xuwan and the perpetually skeptical Kirie, and oh, the thunder-struck Su Xiaoou.

She now doubted whether she had the fate of a ”Lone Star,” with all her close associates facing great misfortune.

”Order.” The judge tapped his gavel, his expression grave as he looked at the case files in front of him.

”We will now read the judgment.” He continued, ”The court finds that the defendant Jiang Shu murdered Anthony Garcia on August 8th. His actions constitute murder, with severe criminal circumstances and an atrocious social impact, worthy of punishment. Lonely City Thirteen District Courtroom No. 3 finds the facts of the defendant Jiang Shu committing murder clear and the evidence solid. The defendant has admitted guilt; hence the charge is established.”

”According to article 134, section 5 of the Lonely City Code, the defendant Jiang Shu is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment. The defendant Jiang Shu is transferred to the Thirteen District Special Prison for incarceration. If the defendant does not accept the verdict, he may appeal by August 16th for a judicial review.” The judge’s imposing voice fell, followed by a tap of the gavel, closing the trial.

---

Special Prison, primarily low but vast, spread across three floors above ground and three below.

Above ground are the Central Building, activity areas, factories, dining hall, etc., below ground are the cells.

Jiang Shu carried a basin containing a set of prison clothes, following the prison guards slowly to his cell—B0034, located on the second basement floor.

His risk level wasn’t high, thus it was a double cell.

The prison guard opened the iron door, clanging his baton against it.

”Prisoner 3269, this is your cell, behave.” The guard said harshly, banging the door again and shouting at another inmate, ”And you, 0043! If you dare harm another prisoner, I’ll put you in solitary for a month!”

Jiang Shu entered the cell. On one of the beds, a man leaned against the wall, his head topped with a newspaper folded into a comical little hat, covering the upper half of his face.

The man was calm, his complexion unchanged, and he spoke very softly.

”You’ve finally arrived.”
