The Broken Halo

”Blackmoon.”

The moment the official called Simon’s name, several demons turned their heads.

Compared to when Sonya and Akaza were called, the attention Simon received was a little different.

Some were curious.

Some were disdainful.

Some were only looking because he was walking with Sonya and Akaza.

After all, Sonya had just revealed a peak S grade earth affinity and Akaza had also revealed that he was a Martial Demon with no elemental affinity.

Both of them were unusual.

As for Simon...

A lot of demons still remembered what happened at the gate.

The crystal pillar had flickered when he circulated his demonic energy, and to them, that meant his control over his demonic energy was extremely poor.

An Archfiend who could not even circulate his demonic energy properly was nothing but a joke to them.

”What do you think he’ll get?”

”Maybe low F grade.”

”Don’t insult F grade. What if the pillar rejects him? He’ll be begging for a F grade affinity if that happens.”

A few demons laughed softly.

The guard who had registered Simon also looked over from the side of the gate.

His eyes contained a little bit of disdain and curiosity.

He wanted to see what sort of result this strange Archfiend with an unstable demonic energy flow would get.

Simon ignored all the gazes and walked forward.

His expression did not change and his steps were calm.

When he arrived in front of the central pillar, he looked at it for a few seconds.

He had never tested his affinity grades before.

He knew he had wind, fire, shadow, ice, and space affinity, but knowing he had those affinities and knowing their grades were two different things.

He was especially curious about his wind affinity.

After all, his wind affinity came for the Sky Tiger Bloodline and it was a Daemon bloodline.

However, he recalled something Lilith told him in the past.

’My Sky Tiger Bloodline is not pure because of my one-horned demon bloodline. My wind affinity is lower because of that and I have not been able to access the full abilities of the Byakko bloodline because I’m basically an incomplete Daemon.’

Simon shook his head after having this thought. He had to focus so as to avoid causing a scene that would put him in trouble.

He had to hide many of his affinities.

Wind was fine.

Fire was fine.

But shadow, ice, and space had to be hidden.

Shadow and space were extremely rare affinities.

If it was known that he had a shadow affinity, news would spread, and it would draw the attention of the Shadowgrave Clan like moths to a flame.

The time he had left to stay in Velmora would be drastically cut short.

As for space... that was the worst affinity he could reveal in this situation.

Why?

Because of the rift.

If they knew that he had a spatial affinity, the higher ups of Velmora would immediately take him away and tell him to help them open the rift.

And it was either they approached him with force or they approached calmly, and it eventually turns to force.

It would just lead to an annoying situation which he would hate.

As for ice... there was no problem with the affinity, but he had no desire to reveal three affinities.

Three affinities was too rare and it would draw the attention of many demons beyond the city of Velmora.

He would only reveal two... Wind and Fire.

That was all.

He placed his hand on the cold surface of the central pillar.

Simon closed his eyes slightly and circulated his demonic energy.

The amount he released was small.

His demonic pathways were still injured, and he could not afford to be careless. But although his pathways were damaged, his control over demonic energy had not become poor because of that.

It was still the same.

Simon controlled his demonic energy that was entering the central pillar with frightening precision.

He did not allow his shadow affinity to leak.

He did not allow his ice affinity to show.

He completely restrained the trace of space within his demonic energy.

All he allowed to move forward was wind and fire.

Hum

The black central pillar released a soft hum.

For a brief moment, nothing happened.

Then the wind pillar reacted.

A green light appeared at the bottom of the pillar.

It rose quickly.

F grade.

E grade.

D grade.

C grade.

B grade.

A grade.

The compound became quiet.

The green light did not stop.

It entered the seventh section.

S grade!

The eyes of several demons widened.

Then one thin rune line lit up.

Then the second.

Then the third.

And then it stopped... just like the hearts of many demons did for a second.

High S grade wind affinity.

The entire compound became silent once again.

The official stared at the wind pillar with a stunned expression.

The demons who had laughed at Simon earlier froze like somebody had grabbed their throats.

The guard who had registered Simon at the gate also stiffened. His eyes widened slightly, and his expression became extremely strange.

High S grade wind affinity.

He couldn’t believe his eyes.

This was the same demon whose demonic energy circulation he thought was terrible.

This was the same demon he had looked down on.

This was the same demon the demon behind the table had recorded with disdain.

But now, the wind pillar was glowing in the seventh section.

High S grade.

The guard’s face twitched slightly.

’What is this? Who is he? What is his race? Who the fuck are those three?’

The guard was not the only one to have these thoughts. Every other demon that could see that Simon, Sonya, and Akaza were together could not help but wonder who in the world they were.

Even the other demons with S grade affinities looked at the three of them with wary expressions.

Compared to every other group present, it was obvious that they were the strongest.
