Chapter 316: Chapter 316: The Mirror’s Grudge

Two weeks had passed since Ethan vanished into the depths of the Royal headquarters. During those fourteen days, the atmosphere in the North End had reached a breaking point. Without their leader’s direct presence, the upper echelons of the organization felt like a body trying to function without a brain. Rumors swirled through the hallways: some said he was ill, others whispered that he had returned to the Arctic in secret, but no one had seen him eat, sleep, or move from his private chambers.

When the heavy blast doors finally hissed open, Ethan stepped out, looking strangely renewed. His skin had a faint, healthy luster, and his purple eyes seemed to hold a depth that wasn’t there before. For him, the two weeks of isolation had felt like the blink of an eye.

”Crul, run a full scan. Everything should be in place now,” Ethan said.

[[Your biological functions are optimal, Master. The integration of the Amethyst Meditation has stabilized your core. More importantly, your psyche appears significantly more resilient. You have weathered the storm of the Black Flower,]] Crul said.

Ethan stopped in the middle of the hallway, looking at his reflection in the polished obsidian wall. He stood silent for a long moment, his mind drifting back to the darkness of that room.

Inside that void, Ethan hadn’t just meditated; he had fought a war. He had been forced into a retrospection where he stood face-to-face with a version of himself that lacked any restraint. Facing one’s own demons was a trial no man should undergo unprepared.

In the darkness, his ”Inner Self” had sat across from him, wearing a twisted, mocking smile. This shadow self held all of Ethan’s repressed desires, specifically the dark obsession that had flared up when he saw Hailey.

”Why do you fight it? You wanted to break her because she reminds you of our dead sister, didn’t you? That little girl who died while we were too weak to save her,” the Inner Ethan said.

”Shut up. That has nothing to do with this. I want to protect people, not ruin them,” Ethan said.

The shadow laughed, a cold, echoing sound. ”Hypocrite. You have the power to turn sex into raw strength. With your dual cultivation abilities and the Amethyst Body, you could increase your power ten times faster if you just cast aside these pathetic moral limits. You want to keep Hailey close because of that lingering, filthier side of our heart—the side that craves that innocence. Why pretend to be a hero when you are already a god?” the shadow said.

”I am not a monster. I control the power; the power doesn’t control me. If I lose my humanity, then all this strength is meaningless,” Ethan said, his voice trembling with the effort of holding back his own dark impulses.

”Humanity is for the weak, Ethan. The Black Flower showed you who you really are. You’re a predator. You don’t want to be a businessman or a savior; you want to own everything and everyone,” the shadow said.

The argument had lasted for days in the silence of his mind, a brutal tug-of-war between the man he wanted to be and the primal force he was becoming. In the end, Ethan hadn’t destroyed the shadow—he had chained it. He had accepted that those dark corners existed, but he had vowed to be the one holding the leash.

Coming back to the present, Ethan adjusted his collar. The inner conflict had left him with a cold, absolute clarity.

”I know what I am now, Crul. Let’s get to work. I’ve been gone too long,” Ethan said.

Ethan walked through the corridors of the Royal HQ with a measured, predatory grace. ”Crul, send a message to Jason. I want to see him immediately,” Ethan said.

[Message sent, Master.] Crul said.

Ethan pushed open the heavy oak doors of the main boardroom. Inside, the air was thick with the scent of expensive perfume and the quiet rustle of documents. Cassandra was deep in conversation with Victoria, while Lena and Alexandria were hunched over a holographic map of the North End’s latest construction phase.

As the door clicked shut, all four women froze. When they saw Ethan standing there—looking sharper, colder, yet more radiant than before—broad smiles broke across their faces.

”Ethan! You’re finally back!” Alexandria said, being the first to rush forward and wrap her arms around his neck.

The greeting was chaotic and filled with a hunger that had built up over two weeks. They surrounded him, kissing him and holding him as if to confirm he wasn’t a mirage. Lena, the most daring and direct of them all, didn’t settle for a simple hug; she reached down and firmly gripped Ethan’s dick through his trousers, her eyes locking onto his with a defiant, possessive heat.

Ethan let out a low, vibrant laugh, pulling them all closer into a group embrace. ”I missed you all too. I apologize for being gone so long. The ’retirement’ took more out of me than I expected,” Ethan said.

Lena stepped back slightly, though her expression remained serious as she adjusted her blazer. ”It’s good that you’re back, Ethan. Your absence was starting to take its toll. To be honest, we all got too comfortable relying on your shadow to keep everyone in line,” Lena said.

”What do you mean?” Ethan said.

”The organization has grown too fast. To manage an empire of this size, we’ve had to hire hundreds of executives—zone managers, district heads, department chiefs. There are too many ’bosses’ now, and every one of them has their own set of ambitions,” Lena said.

Cassandra nodded, her brow furrowed with frustration. ”Every person has their own agenda. The moment you stopped appearing, the vultures started circling. Everyone wanted a piece of the pie. They think the King is dead, or at least dying,” Cassandra said.

Lena crossed her arms, a bitter smile on her lips. ”And most of the trouble is directed at me. They see me as a ’weak woman’ who only reached this position by opening her legs for you. Without you standing behind me, the respect of these new managers has evaporated. They’re challenging every order I give,” Lena said.

Ethan’s eyes narrowed, a faint purple glow flickering in his pupils. The ”shadow” he had chained during his meditation growled in approval at the prospect of a purge.

”Is that so? It seems I’ve been too kind. It’s time to remind everyone who actually signs their paychecks—and who owns their lives,” Ethan said.

Lena looked at Ethan, her eyes searching his for a plan. ”What do you intend to do? Some of these men control vital supply lines. If we move too harshly, the construction might stall,” Lena said.

Ethan’s expression didn’t soften. ”It’s very simple, Lena. I’m going to show them who they actually work for. It’s about time they understand that Royal isn’t a company where they can easily fuck around with me and expect to keep their heads,” Ethan said.

He turned his gaze toward the empty air, addressing his AI directly. ”Crul, perform a deep dive into every database and every level of this organization. I want to know every shameful detail, every bribe taken, every secret kept by every manager and executive. If they refuse to act like professional human beings, I will treat them like dogs,” Ethan said.

[[Understood, Master. I am already infiltrating their private communications and offshore accounts. I will have a complete ’leash’ on every one of them within minutes,]] Crul said.

Just then, the heavy doors to the boardroom burst open. Jason stepped in, looking slightly disheveled and out of breath. He had returned from the Arctic mission days ago, but he had been met with a wall of silence. Every time he had tried to approach Ethan’s private quarters, the doors remained sealed, and Crul’s voice had boomed through the speakers, informing him that entry was strictly prohibited and he must wait for the Master to emerge.

Despite his frustration and his burning desire to report what they had found in the North, Jason’s loyalty was absolute. He had waited. The moment he received the notification that Ethan was out, he had practically run to the command center.

”Chief! You’re finally back among the living,” Jason said.

Ethan turned to face his commander, a small, genuine smile breaking through his cold exterior. ”Jason. I heard you’ve been knocking on my door for days. I apologize for the wait, but I needed every second of those two weeks,” Ethan said.

Jason walked over, looking Ethan up and down. He could sense it—the air around Ethan felt different, heavier, more dangerous. ”You look... different, Boss. Like you’ve been forged in a different kind of fire. I take it the ’vacation’ was productive?” Jason said.

”Very. But enough about me. Tell me about the mission. Did you find what I asked for, or did you just burn everything to the ground?” Ethan said.
