Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 740: Chapter 539: Coron’s Fury

The political strife among the elves was always intense.

Not to mention the unexpected appearance of a Dark Elf Troops in the city center of Eternity Island causing a terrible slaughter, it was the Queen’s husband, the true heir of the Elven Royalty, who was assassinated in the most heavily guarded hall of the Royal Palace.

The Elf Queen could have entered the eternal life of the Elf Deity System long ago, but none of her children, the true heirs to the Royal Bloodline, could take over the position of the King.

The truly capable Princes and Princesses died under mysterious circumstances, especially that strongest Princess, who died during her travels, and everyone was clear about the murderous intent involved.

The living children, either lacked capability or those with sufficient ability and a heart to enhance the power of the Royalty, all died, so the Queen never harbored any hatred towards that daughter married to a Human and gave birth to a Half-Elf, compared to humans, she and her descendants might hate the Great Nobility even more.

But now, once the Queen departs, the Royalty might completely turn into puppets.

In Toril World, it was still the power that counted, a King without the strength of a Great Nobility Clan Leader would be useless regardless of any backing.

Otherwise, the Queen’s husband would not have died so silently.

Initially, if it weren’t for everyone thinking that the Queen, married to the Elf King for her beauty, had low strength, it might not have been just one King who died initially.

But in the end, all the scheming proved futile with the later Queen’s display of formidable strength.

With so much resentment and enmity, it’s no wonder that this Queen, who could be considered the strongest among the elves, simply gave up eternal life and immortality, and firmly stayed on Eternity Island to maintain the Royalty’s power.

The elves’ burial finished, they stood at the graves of their teammates or close friends, knelt on one knee together, and silently bowed their heads.

The hard-to-suppress sobbing sounded a few times and was controlled, as elves, who never feared death, rarely had tearful funerals.

They wanted to adhere to tradition, yet couldn’t control that desolate emotion, especially some of the more emotional Female Elves, who almost had to use the scimitar stuck in the ground to prevent themselves from falling.

A breeze blew past, and the sound of wind chimes melodiously rang, as if singing the lament in their hearts.

Accompanied by gentle sighs, more than a dozen figures in Golden Light appeared in the cemetery.

Lynn widened his eyes and also knelt down on one knee; although he was a priest of Miliel, he also worshipped the Elf Deity System. Though Hill did not know which one it was, it was clear that they had come.

Some bronze figures walked out from the forest, respectfully kneeling on one knee as well.

Indeed, they were Wood Elves!

Hill suppressed his curiosity, placed his right hand over his chest, and gently bowed to show respect.

All of the Elven Deities had appeared.

A middle-aged Female Elf with her white hair tied into several braids, wearing a serious and sad expression, began singing the lament of the elves.

On her back were steel-grey feathered wings, wearing a luxurious silver helmet without protective goggles, and her Elven Chainmail shimmered brightly.

This was Vandellia Gilmadli, the Elf War Goddess, Goddess of Strategy, Grief, and Law.

Although many were focused on her other identity, the daughter of Coron and ex-wife Rose, unlike her younger sister Dark Maiden Elisui, who hoped to prevent their mother Rose from falling, and her brother The Masked Lord Villon who fell with Rose, Vandellia, as a rare lawful neutral deity in the Elf Deity System, decisively sided with their father.

Vandellia could sense the life ebb of every elf that died on the battlefield, sense the pain in the hearts of all the surviving elves, and perceive the sorrow of those who had lost loved ones in the war.

When the Elven Deities entered Toril to welcome the souls of these valiantly fallen, it was Vandellia who felt more of the living’s anguish.

Hill watched quietly.

He did not quite understand why the Elven Deities were doing this.

If they truly believed these Elf Crusaders had the right to enter their Divine Kingdom, why not simply let these children, who died away from home, return to Eternity Island?

No matter how cruel the struggle between the Queen and Nobles, Hill didn’t think they would dare defy the command of the Elven Deities.

Moreover, although Coron wasn’t directly present, no one would think he was uninterested in this matter.

Being able to summon these Elf Deities together, Coron was probably giving his regards to AO, otherwise, being the Father of Elves, he would not have been absent.

Vandellia’s singing stopped, and the souls of the dead elves appeared above the cemetery.

Elven Deities in golden light began to leave with their followers.

The last to leave, Vandellia turned back and nodded at Hill.

Before these deities left, they blessed this cemetery, and by the way, also blessed Hill’s domain.

And they generously included the land all the way to the Sword Mountain Range as Hill’s territory.

From now on, unless the entire Elf Deity System perished together, perhaps only Demons and Devils would dare to trouble Agleya Town.

Having received the blessing of the deities they worshiped, the Elf Crusaders finally lifted their spirits and no longer grieved over their inability to return to Eternity Island.

They wanted to take their companions back, not only to send them back home but also in the hope that their companions’ souls could enter the Divine Kingdom.

No matter how extreme these Elf Crusaders were, their faith was absolutely devout.

Eternity Island did not just refuse the bodies of the deceased elves, but also their path back to the Divine Kingdom, which was the reason for the Crusaders’ descent into decay and despair.

But the appearance of the Elven Pantheon proved that the deities approved of their actions!

The elves who had stood up were now in the mood to tend to and decorate their comrades’ burial grounds.

Some elves, who clearly appeared to be leaders, went over to communicate with the Wood Elf Druids, among them was a cousin of Lynn.

”Is the Elf Deity System doing this out of dissatisfaction with Eternity Island?” Hill asked Lynn softly, who had stood up next to him.

”Eternity Island has not received divine favor for a long time,” whispered Lynn, ”not to mention a graveyard blessed by all gods.

Now, it’s their turn to be jealous of us!”

”Hill, our brother, may I call you that?” a swordsman in a blue and silver robe over his chainmail approached, and Hill noticed the badge on his chest.

This was a rare Shine Sword Master, a worshipper of the demigod Taslin Valadi.

This swordsman and guardian of a Sword Singer was the child of Coron and his later wife Shahani, neutral good, and quite pleasant.

Being his worshipper, although rare, the Shine Sword Master was certainly a very powerful swordsman or Sword Singer, and Taslin did not have purely priests.

Hill’s gaze turned vague for a moment; he had indeed just seen the demigod who even encouragingly touched the forehead of his worshipper before leaving.

Just by looking at the performance of Coron’s two children, who could tell that he could have a son as foolish as that Elven God King Teraxil?

But that one must be much older than Taslin.

Rose, although she also hated Taslin, merely let her son and grandson deal with him.

Could the Elven God King Teraxil have been secretly born while Coron and Rose were still together?

”Hill!” Lynn nudged the distracted Hill with her elbow.

”Are you curious about my identity?” the swordsman said frankly, ”Indeed, it’s rare to see a follower of The Shining One outside, I am Oste, the Shine Sword Master.”

”Hmm...” Hill pondered for a moment before saying, ”You will have a chance to know why I was distracted. Of course, I indeed possess an Elven Bloodline; we are certainly brothers.”

Oste laughed and clapped Hill heavily on the shoulder, ”As brothers, some things are easier to discuss.”

”This graveyard...” Oste said hesitantly, ”is not large, and besides us, probably no one else would want to rest here. But now...”

”Are you going to stay in Agleya?” asked Hill.

”Of course, we’ll stay here!” declared Oste solemnly, ”We will settle and rest here, places unworthy of our affection are not worth lingering over.”

”The Mayor of Agleya is Lynn, who used to be enough on his own when there were few people, but in the future, this place might become very lively. Maybe, the Elf Crusaders would like to become the defense force here?

That might mean working with Tyr’s Holy Knights.”

”No problem!” Oste quickly understood Hill’s suggestion; he had also heard from Lynn that Hill would no longer accommodate outsiders in the town, and thus the town’s graveyard would of course only open for their own people.

The Elves scattered around all started smiling.

Until a curse exploded in the sky: ”Mystra! You actually dared to resurrect that Kelben? Does Elven dignity mean nothing to you?”

All the elves lost their smiles and slowly stood up, looking up at the sky.

Though they might never have heard this voice before, from the moment the words sounded, every elf instinctively knew it was Coron, their Creator.

”Kelben indeed made mistakes, but the current situation needs a strong leader; otherwise, the plague and this Mistral incident wouldn’t have gotten this severe.

Coron, please be a little more forgiving!”

”Forgiving?” Coron scoffed coldly, ”Mystra, if he hadn’t died, I would have settled with you long ago! Is your disregard for elves truly your will?

Just wait and see!

Midnight!”

Hill’s eyes widened as he called out Mystra’s original name; was Coron really about to turn hostile?

And, was Black Staff resurrected just like that? Had Mystra gone mad? Why choose this moment?

The elves’ stances shifted, their hands gripping the weapons at their waists tightly; if Coron spoke out, they would not hesitate to save their own lives.

They understood, Coron was specifically waiting until the funeral was over.
