Chapter 675: Foundations of Nagarath

Foundations of Nagarath

”They are no longer guests,” he added. ”They are Nagarath’s soldiers now.”

The words didn’t rise in volume, yet they carried weight—like iron settling into place.

A ripple moved through both groups—Silver City and Blackthorn.

It wasn’t loud. No cheers. No clash of steel against shields. Just the subtle shift of boots against stone, shoulders drawing back, eyes lifting.

Something subtle shifted in their posture.

Not pride.

Belonging.

Men who had stood apart moments ago now stood as one formation. Not allies. Not borrowed strength. Something more permanent.

Black placed a fist to his chest. ”Understood.”

His voice was steady, but Leon caught the flicker in his eyes. He understood what this meant. There would be no lines between them anymore—no old banners clung to in secret.

One of the Silver City captains stepped forward half a pace. ”My king... does that mean our oaths are to be renewed?”

Leon’s gaze moved to him. Calm. Measuring. ”No.”

The man stiffened.

”Your oath remains,” Leon continued. ”But now it has a name. Nagarath.”

A Blackthorn veteran let out a low breath. ”Then there will be no distinction in rations? Or rank?”

A dangerous question—carefully phrased.

Leon’s expression did not change. ”There will be distinction in merit. Nothing else.”

Silence followed that.

Black’s lips twitched—almost a smile. ”You heard him.”

Leon gave one final glance across them.

He didn’t rush it. He looked at faces, not armor. At scars. At doubt. At hope they didn’t want to show.

”You serve well,” he said simply.

No grand speech. No fire. No promise of glory.

And for warriors, there were few rewards greater than that.

A few men exhaled as if they had been holding their breath for weeks.

He turned slightly, then paused.

”And Commander,” Leon added without looking back, ”no one sleeps in temporary barracks.”

Black blinked. ”My king?”

A murmur passed through the lines.

Leon’s voice remained even. ”If they are mine, they live as mine.”

Black frowned slightly. ”The new wing is still under construction. The stone hasn’t fully set. We planned to move them after—”

”After what?” Leon cut in quietly.

Black stopped.

Leon finally glanced over his shoulder. Not harsh. Not cold. Just unwavering.

”After we decide whether they stay?” Leon asked.

The implication settled heavily.

Black straightened. ”No, my king.”

”Proper quarters,” Leon said. ”We are not building a temporary kingdom.”

The words landed deeper than the first declaration had.

This wasn’t about beds. Or walls. Or comfort.

It was about permanence.

About saying without saying that Nagarath was not a passing force.

Black’s jaw tightened—not in resistance, but in recognition.

The words had weight. Not fear. Not hesitation. Just the quiet understanding of a man who had already accepted the path before it was spoken aloud.

”Yes, my king.”

There was no dramatic flourish in his tone. No trembling. Just loyalty—steady and deliberate.

Leon nodded once.

It was a small motion, almost casual, but it carried finality. Decisions made. Orders set. The kind of gesture that moved cities without raising a voice.

Then his attention shifted again.

”And the people of Silver City and Blackthorn,” he asked calmly. ”Where are they?”

His voice remained even, but something beneath it sharpened—an invisible thread of concern woven into authority.

Black answered immediately. ”I’ve already directed them to the northern district, my king. As previously planned. Temporary housing has been opened. Supplies distributed.”

There was quiet efficiency in the report. No scrambling. No uncertainty. It had been handled.

Leon’s gaze grew thoughtful.

”The northern district...” he murmured.

The name alone carried history.

The place once owned by nobles who had fled.

Empty estates.

Vacant halls.

Ghosts of arrogance.

For a moment, Leon’s golden eyes seemed to see beyond walls and roofs—beyond polished marble and carved balconies. He saw the echo of laughter that once rang with entitlement. He saw the banners torn down in panic. Doors left open in a rush to escape consequences.

Now those same halls would shelter displaced families.

The irony wasn’t lost on him.

He nodded slowly.

”Good.”

The single word landed softly—but it carried approval.

Black continued, stepping half a pace closer as if to ensure nothing was misunderstood. ”We’ve begun converting the larger manors into multi-family residences. The smaller estates will house trade leaders and skilled workers.”

A pause.

”The craftsmen especially,” he added, more quietly. ”They’ll be needed soon.”

Leon’s eyes flickered with approval.

He didn’t smile, but there was warmth in the way his posture eased just slightly. Strategy wasn’t only about armies. It was about stability. Dignity. Making sure resentment didn’t take root in soil already disturbed.

”Oversee their rest and new housing personally,” Leon said. ”Take help from Lord Ronan if needed. I want no confusion. No resentment.”

His gaze sharpened on the last word.

Resentment.

It wasn’t the kind of threat that stormed the gates with banners raised. It slipped in quietly. Sat in the corners. Took root in tired hearts and empty stomachs. And if left alone, it didn’t fade.

It grew teeth.

Black dipped his head, but not casually. He understood the weight beneath the instruction. This wasn’t logistics. It wasn’t paperwork and keys and empty rooms.

This was control of the future.

This wasn’t just about housing.

It was about rebuilding trust.

And Leon intended to get it right.

Black bowed deeper. ”As you order.”

Leon’s eyes held him for a moment longer — measuring, confirming, trusting.

”This is not charity,” Leon added quietly. ”This is foundation.”

The words were calm, but they carried iron.

Black understood.

He had walked through cities that collapsed not from siege, but from neglect. He had seen displaced families turned into unwanted shadows — and watched those shadows sharpen into knives.

Leon wasn’t offering pity.

He was building loyalty.

Black placed his fist against his chest again, the sound of armor brushing faintly through the hall. ”I will see it done.”

Leon gave a single nod.

The exchange was over.

Orders clear.

Foundations set.

Black stepped back without another word, already moving through plans in his mind — allocation, oversight, placement, subtle observation. If resentment tried to take root, he would find it before it flowered.

Leon turned back toward his wives.

The tension that had locked across his shoulders loosened, not entirely, but enough. The steel in his posture softened.

Now his expression changed.

Less steel.

More warmth.

A faint smile tugged at his lips — not political, not performative. Real.

He looked at them not as king or commander, but as the man who chose them and was chosen in return.

”Now,” he said, voice softening just enough to be heard only by those closest, ”you all.”
