Slime Evolution

Chapter 155: 155 - Memory Resonance

Lisa concentrated all her Spiritual Fire into her front claws, which now burned with a blinding glow.

At the same moment, Lohan condensed his Mana and materialized a small but extremely dense spike of compressed ice, which sprouted from the obsidian armor on Lisa’s chest.

The combined attack struck the monster’s chest exactly where Lohan sensed the greatest concentration of Mana.

The thermal shock between the legendary flames and the magical ice caused a molecular micro-implosion.

The Level 11’s metallic-gray shell shattered like glass, and the ice spike pierced its heart, destroying the creature’s vital core.

The giant rabbit with metallic fur froze, its red eyes losing their glow as its body collapsed heavily onto the scorched earth.

[You have killed the Level 11 Elite Explosive Rabbit!]

[Experience: +1,450]

Lisa fell to her knees, panting, feeling Lohan’s emerald energy recede into a steady, comforting flow.

Her white fur was singed and dirty, but her eyes shone with the victory they had achieved together.

Lohan, for his part, began extending black tentacles to wrap around the beast’s head, feeling the Hemolymphatic Tissue maintain the maximum digestion rate of 5.1k Bio/h.

Honestly, after such a grueling and difficult battle, Lohan decided to trust himself and digest the entire body of this Level 11 rabbit!

”Lisa, I’m going to digest this rabbit. Stay alert in case anything happens to me, and don’t hesitate to knock me out.” He said in a serious voice, rousing the fox, who had been relaxing again, back to a state of alertness.

Although tired, Lisa didn’t refuse; on the contrary, she was excited to see what he would gain from a creature like that.

’It would be amazing if he could get that vacuum kick!’ she thought excitedly.

[Warning: The organism is of a Higher Level. Initiating Qualitative Evolution extraction...]

[Predator Title influencing extraction, success rate increased by 20%.]

Reading those warnings, Lohan got excited.

’Shouldn’t Predator only work on Players?! Maybe on Players it increases the rate by 100% and for other things it increases by 20%? Or is there some hidden condition?’

But before he could think further, Memory Resonance pulled his mind to a completely different place.

-xXx-

Lohan’s consciousness was suddenly sucked out of his Slime body, plunging into a whirlwind of confusing sensations.

This time, the transition wasn’t the absolute, oppressive chaos he’d felt with the Weaving Spider; Lohan was much better prepared.

Thanks to his Parallel Processing Core, Lohan managed to open independent channels in his mind, acting as barriers that filtered the flood of data from the Level 11 beast before it could crush his individuality.

The view that opened up before him was a high-speed blur.

He no longer saw the world in 360 degrees like a Slime, but rather through a pair of focused eyes that moved at high speed all around, searching for useful trees to use as launch points.

He felt the weight of a solid body entirely different from what he was used to, but above all, he felt the Mana compressed in its hind legs, which, unlike his own, still in an early stage of development, generated such intense pressure that it seemed ready to explode at any moment.

In the memory, he was the Explosive Rabbit.

He felt the euphoria of each leap... the exact moment when Mana saturated the muscle fibers and, with a powerful detonation against the ground, launched him forward like a living projectile.

Little by little, Lohan realized that by keeping his consciousness in this memory, he could perfectly analyze the body and sensations of this rabbit in first person, learning more from this than he would through trial and error on his own.

The peak of the resonance occurred when Lohan relived the moment of the creature’s evolution to level 11 three days ago.

’What incredible luck! I’ll be able to experience firsthand what that feeling is like?!’

Unfortunately, these memories were extremely vague, perhaps because of the creature’s simple mind, perhaps because his Memory Resonance was still at a very low level, but he could only grasp a few vague sensations.

He felt the air around him being manipulated by a unique energy that slowly shaped the rabbit’s body; he really wanted to make that memory clearer, even trying to raise his Memory Resonance level while inside the rabbit’s mind, but unfortunately he didn’t have access to its evolution menu...

Then the skill [Vacuum Detonation] suddenly appeared in the rabbit’s mind.

In the memory, Lohan felt the atmospheric pressure collapse beneath his hind legs, creating the vacuum that sucked everything toward a central point before the final explosion. It was an absurd sensation of power, on a scale he even doubted was possible for such a low-level creature.

But considering the anatomy of rabbits, which seemed perfectly suited for this, that incongruity made sense.

This wasn’t an unbeatable Skill, after all; Lisa and he had defeated the rabbit while still being two levels below... even though they had used every trump card and advantage of having Legendary and Mythical Races.

Although the experience of this memory was intensely vivid and charged with a savage aggression that almost seemed to be trying to consume his mind, the mental developments Lohan had honed over the past few weeks allowed him to remain a detached observer.

This time he didn’t ”become” the rabbit; he had managed to read the memories in a more detached and impartial way than in his first experience.

Suddenly, the vision shifted to the final battle. Through the rabbit’s bloodshot eyes, he saw the white fox, clad in black obsidian armor, advancing toward him. He felt the beast’s instinctive terror in the millisecond that magical ice and spiritual fire collided in its chest.

Then the resonance broke.

Lohan awoke again in his blue body, which glowed as if he had achieved something... his gelatinous form contracted and expanded as his body worked to digest as much as it could of that valuable corpse.

The process was exhausting, but far more satisfying than his last experience with it.

He looked at the obsidian ”legs” he had previously molded and felt that, now, he finally understood the true mechanics behind the kinetic explosion.
