Scripture of Days Past

The fact that Chu Qiguang’s condition hadn’t flared up in three days meant that it could recur at any time.

This was not a very encouraging thought for Chu Qiguang, but there was nothing he could do about it.

The sparring matches continued, and all of the trainees were going all out. As a result, most of the matches were very short and decided within the first few exchanges.

Finally, it was Chu Qiguang’s turn.

”Chu Qiguang versus Chi Shude!”

Chi Shude had been meditating the entire time, and his eyes instantly sprang open at the sound of his name. He turned a sharp gaze toward Chu Qiguang nearby.

All of the trainees were very excited to see this match-up.

”Chi Shude is going to be a tough opponent,” Li Chu mused. ”I’ve never won a single sparring match against him during our martial arts lessons.”

”That’s not a surprise,” Huang Xiangyu said. ”Chi Shude is an exceptional prodigy who was supposed to train on Dragon Serpent Mountain under the Heavenly Master Religion, but the Demon Vanquishing Department somehow managed to get their hands on him.”

Meanwhile, Jiang Longyu was sitting on a chair that his servant had brought over for him, sipping on spirit water while reading a fist technique manual. He seemed to be completely uninterested in the ongoing sparring matches.

However, after hearing Chu Qiguang’s name, he couldn’t help but look up, curious to see how much progress he had made over the past month.

Chu Qiguang and Chi Shude made their way into the circle, but Chi Shude was in no hurry to make a move.

Instead, he asked, ”Chu Qiguang, I heard that even after studying under Daoist Priest Zhao for an entire month, you still haven’t been able to activate the Demon Vanquishing Talisman. Is that right? That shows that you have no reverence at all for the Profound Origin Dao Lord, and that’s why you are unable to receive His blessings! You are not fit to stay in the Demon Vanquishing Department!”

Many of the other trainees nodded in approval of Chi Shude’s statement. Most of them harbored some degree of discontent and hostility toward Chu Qiguang, and they detested a non-believer like him from the bottom of their hearts.

”If he doesn’t believe in the Profound Origin Dao Lord, who’s to say that he won’t turn to a cult someday?”

”Without the Profound Origin Dao Lord’s protection, there’s every chance he could succumb to demonification in the future.”

”I don’t want a non-believer like him as my future colleague!”

”What is Chi Shude trying to do?” Li Chu asked with tightly furrowed brows.

”What a shady bastard!” Huang Xiangyu harrumphed coldly. ”He already has the advantage after cultivating the Star Plucking Finger, yet he’s still trying to claim the moral high ground. By denouncing Chu Qiguang, he’s trying to win over the other trainees and curry favor with the instructors and lecturers.”

”But this kind of psychological warfare surely isn’t fair!” Li Chu exclaimed. ”Are the head instructor and the others not going to do anything about this?”

”Fairness in battle has never been important in the Demon Vanquishing Department,” Huang Xiangyu scoffed. ”The people of the Demon Vanquishing Department are trained to dispatch their targets through whatever means necessary, and that’s exactly what Chi Shude is doing now.”

On the platform, Chu Qiguang’s complexion was growing paler by the second, and Chi Shude was convinced that his words were having an effect on him.

This is my chance!

Sensing Chu Qiguang’s internal distress, Chi Shude sprang across the platform, leaving a trail of afterimages in his wake.

In the blink of an eye, he had already reached Chu Qiguang, and Yang Ling’s eyes instantly lit up at the sight of his brilliant footwork.

In contrast, Jiang Longyu’s brows were tightly furrowed.

That fool! How can he allow himself to get distracted in the middle of a battle? It looks like he’s going to lose before he even gets a chance to defend himself.

On the platform, Chi Shude stomped down onto the ground while simultaneously unleashing the Star Plucking Finger. The tip of his finger shot straight toward Chu Qiguang’s chest like a drill bit.

A dull thump rang out as Chi Shude’s finger struck Chu Qiguang’s chest with tremendous force.

Everything had happened so quickly that it was only now that many of the trainees realized what had just occurred.

Zhang Haizhu was furious.

What the hell is Chu Qiguang doing?! This is the most humiliating way to lose!

However, Chi Shude didn’t stop there. Instead, he continued his assault, circling around Chu Qiguang while unleashing a torrential barrage of attacks from all directions.

He’s still going? Zhang Haizhu exclaimed inwardly. Chu Qiguang is going to die at this rate! Why hasn’t the head instructor stepped in?

Every single finger strike unleashed by Chi Shude carried enough force to completely pulverize the head of an ox. The power of each blow was also incredibly focused and concentrated, making it the perfect weapon against martial artists who relied on their physical constitution for defense.

However, as Chi Shude continued to rain blows down on all of Chu Qiguang’s vital regions, he felt as if he were striking a block of steel.

Not only did Chu Qiguang appear completely unharmed, but he also remained perfectly still on the spot. The force of Chi Shude’s attacks wasn’t even enough to move him a single inch.

How could this be? He’s only been cultivating the Primordial High Zenith Qigong for a month. How is he able to directly withstand my Star Plucking Finger like this? Is he wearing armor beneath his clothes?

Convinced that had to be the case, Chi Shude decided to change his plan of attack. Instead of continuing to target the vital regions in Chu Qiguang’s torso, he aimed his next blow at Chu Qiguang’s exposed neck, determined to make it the final strike that would end the battle.

Thump!

Chi Shude watched in astonishment as a patch of purple rose up from beneath Chu Qiguang’s clothes and extended all the way to his neck.

His Star Plucking Finger had struck its intended target, but once again, it had been stopped cold.

Chu Qiguang turned to him with a cold sneer and jeered, ”That’s it?”

Purple skin?! He’s already reached the second level of the Primordial High Zenith Qigong?! How?!

Chi Shude immediately tried to spring back in retreat, but it was already too late.

Chu Qiguang hand whipped forward like a spring viper, locking around Chi Shude’s throat before lifting him into the air.

”Why do you look so shocked?” Chu Qiguang sneered. ”Did you not hear what Instructor Yang said about me? He said I have the makings of an exceptional juggernaut!”

Yang Ling was speechless.
