Role Stealer: The Script Executioner

The air behind the rusted gate was different. It didn’t just smell of rust; it smelled of rot—the rot of forgotten dreams and broken promises. As Arthur stepped through the threshold, the darkness felt thick, like walking through cold oil. Beside him, the Nameless Man moved with a silent, predatory grace, his black scythe resting easily on his shoulder.

”Look at the floor, Architect,” the Nameless Man said, his voice a low growl that echoed in the vast, hollow space.

Arthur looked down. The ground wasn’t made of stone or metal. It was a carpet of gray, discarded masks, broken swords, and tattered robes. Thousands of them. Each one represented a character that had been deleted before their story even began.

”These are the Failures,” the masked man continued. ”The protagonists who weren’t ’likable’ enough. The villains who were too cruel for the audience. The extras who gained consciousness too early. The system didn’t just delete them; it dumped them here to feed the things that live in the dark.”

A sudden, piercing shriek tore through the silence.

From the shadows of a massive, overturned stone throne, a creature emerged. It was a nightmare of mismatched parts. It had the upper body of a knight in shining armor, but its lower half was a mass of writhing, black tentacles. Its face was a blank, white mask with a single, weeping eye in the center.

”A Prototype World-Eater,” Arthur whispered, his hand tightening on the hilt of the God-Slayer’s Blade. ”The Company tried to build a biological cleanup tool before they switched to the mechanical monoliths.”

”It’s hungry, Arthur,” the Nameless Man said, stepping back to give Arthur space. ”And it doesn’t care about your titles. To this thing, you are just a fresh source of data. A meal that hasn’t been deleted yet.”

The creature lunged. It didn’t run; it propelled itself forward with its tentacles, moving with a terrifying, liquid speed. The knight’s armored arms held a massive, rusted claymore that glowed with a sickly green light.

Arthur moved to intercept, his white hair flowing behind him like a silver flame. He didn’t try to calculate the trajectory. He didn’t look for a weakness in the armor. He simply swung his obsidian blade with every ounce of his will.

*CLANG!*

The impact was deafening. The green light of the claymore clashed with the dark violet fire of Arthur’s blade. Arthur felt the shockwave travel up his arms, threatening to shatter his bones. The creature was strong—stronger than any boss he had faced in the simulated worlds. It was a raw, unrefined power that didn’t follow any balance patches.

”Don’t just block!” the Nameless Man shouted from the shadows. ”The farmer doesn’t wait for the weed to stop growing! He cuts it at the root!”

The creature’s tentacles lashed out, wrapping around Arthur’s waist and slamming him into a pile of broken masks. The air left his lungs, and for a second, the darkness threatened to swallow him. The knight’s armored form loomed over him, the green claymore raised for a final, crushing blow.

Arthur looked at the weeping eye in the center of the creature’s face. He didn’t see a monster. He saw a failure. A discarded soul that had been left to rot in the dark.

”I’m sorry,” Arthur whispered, his voice sounding like a cold wind.

He didn’t use a skill. He didn’t call for a command. He reached deep into the black veins pulsing in his arms and pulled the static of the Null Zone into his blade. The God-Slayer’s Blade erupted in a violent, jagged arc of silver and black fire.

Arthur lunged upward, his blade slicing through the knight’s armor as if it were paper. He didn’t stop there. He twisted his body in mid-air, a movement born of pure instinct, and brought the blade down in a crushing, vertical strike.

The obsidian metal tore through the creature’s white mask, splitting the weeping eye in two.

A massive explosion of black ink and green light followed. The creature let out a final, distorted scream before dissolving into a pile of gray ash.

Arthur landed on his feet, his breath coming in ragged gasps. His white hair was glowing faintly in the dark, and his dark violet eyes were fixed on the ash. He felt a strange sensation in his chest—not a gain in experience points, but a heavy, somber weight. He had just ended a misery that had lasted for centuries.

”You’re learning,” the Nameless Man said, walking toward him. He looked at the ash, then at Arthur. ”You didn’t fight it like a hero. You reaped it like a farmer. You recognized that it was a crop that had gone sour.”

”It was suffering,” Arthur said, his voice low.

”Everything here is suffering,” the masked man replied. ”That is why we are here. To end the cycle. But one failure is nothing. Look ahead.”

Arthur looked deeper into the Recycle Bin. From the shadows, hundreds of glowing eyes began to appear. More prototypes. More broken heroes. More failures. They were crawling over the mountains of trash, their moans filling the air like a discordant choir.

”This is the harvest, Arthur,” the Nameless Man said, drawing his own black scythe. The blade hummed with a dark, ancient power. ”We will spend the next two days reaping this field. You will fight until your muscles scream and your mind goes numb. You will fight until the ’Architect’ is nothing more than a distant memory, and the ’Executioner’ is all that remains.”

”Let them come,” Arthur said, his obsidian blade igniting once more.

The next few hours were a blur of blood and static. Arthur and the Nameless Man moved through the sea of failures like two reapers in a field of wheat. Arthur stopped thinking about ’stats’ or ’levels.’ He stopped trying to find a logical explanation for the monsters he faced.

He fought a giant made of discarded dragon scales. He reaped a swarm of shadow-wraiths that were the remains of a deleted horror world. He stood his ground against a fallen paladin whose armor was fused to his skin by rusted circuits.

Every time he swung his blade, he felt the weight of the void growing within him. The black veins on his skin were now permanent, a dark armor that pulsed with every heartbeat. His white hair grew longer, shimmering with a ghostly light that pushed back the darkness of the Null Zone.

”Faster!” the Nameless Man roared, his scythe carving a path through a dozen shadow-wraiths. ”The void doesn’t wait for you to catch your breath! The void only cares if you are still standing!”

Arthur lunged at a massive, multi-headed beast that looked like a failed experiment in Greek mythology. He dodged a blast of fire from one head and a strike from another, his movements fluid and instinctive. He didn’t look for a pattern. He felt the rhythm of the fight.

He jumped onto the beast’s back, his obsidian blade carving a deep, black rift through its scales. He didn’t just cut; he pulled the very essence of the failure into his blade, extinguishing its life with a cold, final precision.

As the beast collapsed into ash, Arthur stood on top of the remains, his blade held high. He looked at the Nameless Man, who was watching him with a grim, terrifying pride.

”Two days,” the masked man said, his obsidian mask glowing. ”Two days of reaping, and you have already cleared half the field. But the greatest failure is still waiting for you at the bottom of the bin.”

”Who is it?” Arthur asked, his voice now a low, resonant hum.

”The man you used to be,” the Nameless Man replied. ”The first draft of the Architect. The one who thought he could control the souls of men with a few lines of code. He is the heart of this corruption, Arthur. And tomorrow, you will have to reap him.”

Arthur looked into the deepest part of the dark, where a faint, orange light was flickering. It was a light he recognized—the light of the Executive Tower.

”I’m ready,” Arthur said, his white hair flaring in the dark.

The Nameless Man nodded, his scythe resting on his shoulder. ”Then rest for an hour, Executioner. The harvest is only beginning.”
