Reincarnated as a Lizard

”They are leaving! We win!”

”Haha, thanks to that dwarf, we won’t have to try and evacuate the city!”

”let’s go! That dwarf is awesome. Especially that mount of his, so cool!”

As the snow wolves began retreating from the battlefield under the command of their leader, the adventurers who had been anxiously standing atop the walls of the city that had been doomed to fall only a few short minutes earlier, all began celebrating their survival filled with unbridled happiness. Directing most of their thanks towards Verdell and Scaly, who in their eyes were the main reason behind the retreat of the snow wolves.

Even if the group of powerful adventurers trapped outside the walls had also been one of the reasons why the city had been able to hold on for as long as it did, these adventurers also understood that the only reason they had been able to survive this time around was because of the timely arrival of Verdell and with this in mind, they joined the adventurers on the walls in cheering on Verdell and Scaly.

”This... Was not what I was expecting when arriving at a city in the north...” Taken aback by the sheer enthusiasm shown by these adventurers, Verdell couldn’t help tugging a bit at the helmet on top his head as he felt himself becoming slightly more introverted in the face of so many people wholeheartedly praising him.

Understanding deep down that he would never have been able to fend off those snow wolves on his own. The one who had done most of the work wasn’t him, but the dragon he was lucky enough to have befriended beneath him.

Of course, the dragon in question couldn’t care less about the praise of these adventurers, her mind was already preoccupied with trying to figure out where she could safely undergo her next evolution within the northern region. After all, this place was far from safe, and she had to find somewhere that would not just keep her safe for potential weeks if not months but also ensure that she wouldn’t be accidentally stomped to death by a powerful monster like the glacial behemoth.

This was understandably far more difficult than any of the past evolutions she had to go through, as the time needed for this evolution would undoubtedly be longer. Placing a far bigger quality requirement on the place she underwent her evolution.

All things considered, it wasn’t that hard for her to conclude that the northern region itself was unsuitable as place for her to safely undergo her evolution.

On the contrary, she felt the dreamscape was the best place for her to undergo her evolution. Not just because it was easier to find a safe place to hide away, but also because finding a place to evolve outside those floating continents on the smaller islands floating through the dreamscape meant she would be able to entirely avoid encountering any adventurers while going through her evolution, something that would be harder to avoid if she went through her evolution within the boundaries of the material plane where adventurers were essentially everywhere.

Then again, before deciding on somewhere within the dreamscape to go through her evolution, she first had to scout out the situation of the dreamscape, as it was undoubtedly different from the parts of the dreamscape she had explored so far. At the same time, she also needed to say goodbye to Verdell for now. Having absolutely no intention of showing him where she was going through her evolution.

After all, her evolution was of the utmost importance and at the same time also the time where she would be at her weakest.

Sure, she had grown to trust Verdell during their time together and knew he wouldn’t harm her, but she couldn’t say for sure he wouldn’t accidentally end up leaking the location of where she went through her evolution... And no matter how small the risk, it was better to just eliminate it altogether...

”Looks like we should be able to enter the city without any problems... Good... I was worried about how to get you inside without any problems...” Unaware of Scaly’s internal thoughts as she was already planning on where to go through her evolution, Verdell let out sigh of relief as he said this while gently patting the top of her head in the process, something that caused Scaly to tilt her head in confusion. Not understanding what Verdell meant.

”The thing is, under normal circumstances, I would have to go through a long approval process to get a monster or rather dragon, like you approved through the guild so you can enter freely.

However, with what happened today, it shouldn’t be difficult to get the guild branch here to grant you an approved monster emblem. Granting you the ability to freely enter a city under the guild. Even without me around, as many monster tamers out there use their monsters to run errands and isn’t around them most of time.”

Seeing this familiar look of confusion on her face, Verdell patiently explained what he meant while at the same time signaling for her to move forward, something Scaly was more than happy to follow along with for now. Feeling curious about the approved monster emblem he had mentioned to her.

Not only because this approved monster emblem seemed like something that would help her avoid being chased down by adventurers whenever they saw her, but also because she knew this would make it far easier for her to enter dungeons in the future on her own even without Verdell around.

After all, from being around Verdell so long, one thing she had understood deeply was just how much control the guild had on the dungeons throughout the world.

Without this kind of emblem allowing her to move through towns and cities under the control of the guild, it would be close to impossible for her to enter any of the dungeons under the control of the guild.

Of course, the most important part wasn’t so much the access it would grant her in the future, but the layer of protection it provided for her upcoming evolution, as even in a worst-case scenario where she was discovered by a group of adventurers while undergoing her evolution, the emblem would deter some of the adventurers from making a move on her.

Not to mention, this emblem was essentially something free to her and didn’t cost her anything, so she was more than happy to accept it after learning more about it from Verdell as the two of them slowly made their way inside the city whose magical barrier had already lowered for them to enter.

”Wow, such a cool looking dragon!”

”This is my first time seeing something like this up close... Those scales... How beautiful...”

”Hehe, a small dwarf on top such a large dragon. If not for the other party saving us, I would have really loved to laugh at- Ugh Don’t hit me!”

”Hmph, keep quiet you old buffoon!”

And as she strode inside an adventurer city for the first time without being target by the adventurers inside, Scaly found herself unknowingly lifting her head up in pride upon hearing the words of admiration from the different people lining the side of the street as she triumphantly made her way towards the Adventurers Guild at the center of the city.

The feeling of admiration was something she felt she could get used to. Especially those people showing such clear admiration for her pristine scales and powerful presence. For those kinds of adventurers, she already silently decided to spare them in case she ran into someone like that in the future.

Only if they weren’t attacking her of course, if they were hostile, no amount of praise would save them from her magic and claws~

”Finally, here, wait outside, I will get things sorted out for you, it won’t take more than a few minutes maybe half an hour at most.” And as the two of them reached the Adventurers Guild, Verdell dismounted from her back before striding inside with a large crowd following behind him. Leaving behind a few words for her as she was left standing outside the guild with a crowd of admirers watching her from the side the entire time.

Of course, faced with this kind of situation, Scaly didn’t just slump down on the ground like she would have normally. Instead, she did her absolute utmost to keep her head high and look as majestic as possible, something that did indeed earn another round of praise from the people gathered around her.

Hehe~ This isn’t too bad~

Smiling unconsciously as she stood there trying her best to imitate what she believed a proud and majestic looking dragon would look like in her eyes. Earning another wave of praise, though unknown to her, most of her admires were children by now, while the older ones had already followed after Verdell, who was the true main character in their eyes...
