Regression - Second Chance At Life

Chapter 263: One More Win

Bart has been a fan of Chiperz for years now. He has been following her since her early streaming days, when she would only average about 10 to 15 viewers a day.

He was first drawn to her because of her looks. He believed her to be the most beautiful girl he had ever laid his eyes on.

And as he started following her, he began to realize there was more to Chiperz than just her looks, her sense of humor, her view on life, the types of food she liked to eat, and the things that irked her the most.

Additionally, she was a phenomenal gamer, able to keep pace with the world’s best pros. Making Bart like her more.

The more Bart watched, the more he fell for her. Developing a deep parasocial relationship with Chiperz. He started donating large amounts of money to her to get her attention, which he did.

Sometimes she would remember him and thank him for his donation, which made him feel very happy because he got acknowledged by the girl he liked the most, but that was it. A simple thank you, nothing more.

And Bart knows this. He might like her a lot, have thoughts about being with her, marrying her, spending the rest of his life with her, but he is not delusional enough to believe that his fantasies had any chance of becoming real.

He was just happy knowing that Chiperz knows that he is out there and that he exists.

Everything was going normally. He was happy with how things were in his life when suddenly he got exposed to a piece of news that shook him to the core.

Chiperz was coming to his city, this city, and she would be holding one of her very famous series, Battle Chiperz, where she would give her fans a chance to win a kiss from her.

This little stunt of hers increased her viewership a lot because everyone wanted to see Chiperz kiss some guy. But it was easier said than done.

Many tried, and all failed. Chiperz always chose the games she was the best at, and even when her competition was tough, she managed to keep winning.

Her little stunt pulled out of most devious existences out of their hellhole, those who lock themselves inside their parents’ basements and spend their entire time playing games. Such were some of her opponents, so you can figure just how good she really is to be able to defeat even such devious foes.

The more Chiperz won, the more her meetups started to get hyped. The demand for someone to defeat her continued to rise, but still none succeeded.

When Bart heard that Chiperz would be coming to his city and holding her event at the Central Mall, he was ecstatic.

He dreamed about getting to play against Chiperz and defeat her so that his lips could meet hers.

But Bart is being overly optimistic about it. He is good at a few games, but he is not at the level of those devious existences who sometimes come out of their lair to claim a kiss from Chiperz.

He just hopes he is lucky enough to actually win. After all, luck is a factor that can always strike. Maybe he can be that lucky one.

So he arrived here before Chiperz even got here, but he was not the only one with the same idea.

And when Chiperz finally arrived, looking sexy, surrounded by her massive bodyguards, everyone cheered.

But that jolly atmosphere soon turned gloomy because everyone who challenged her lost to her miserably, and, the worst part, their humiliating losses were being livestreamed for Chiperz’s viewers to make fun of.

Every time someone lost, they would get bombarded with insults and mockery; some of her obsessive followers even went a step further to find the online accounts of the players who lost to Chiperz and started insulting them directly.

These people were already socially inept; they liked to hide behind their screens and yell at the world, so for them to fall under the spotlight and be turned into targets of hate, many couldn’t handle it.

Bart watched as a few raged out of the store after seeing how people were making fun of their appearance; their fragile egos couldn’t handle it.

The more Bart watched, the more he started getting nervous as he realized that failure would make him a target of online bullying, and it might continue for days or months. He has witnessed with his own eyes how one guy in particular is still getting bullied online to this day.

Bart doesn’t want that for himself as he doesn’t think he is mentally strong enough to handle such harassment.

As he contemplates whether to challenge Chiperz, he takes too much time, and someone else steps in, a guy with very pale skin and a receding hairline.

This guy is the definition of ugly, someone who has given up on life altogether.

As Bart watches the guy play against Chiperz, a frown forms on Bart’s face as he sees that the guy is very good, managing to almost win round 1 against Chiperz.

If there is one thing Bart wants more than to kiss Chiperz is to watch this guy lose, because he doesn’t want the image of this ugly man kissing the love of his life stuck in his head.

Bart continues to watch nervously as round two begins, when suddenly he notices a tall figure standing next to him.

’A newcomer?’ Bart wonders and turns to look, only to have his brain short for a second as the guy who is now standing next to him looks like someone who can headline the cover of an elite magazine.

Bart has never seen a guy this good-looking in real life.

To make matters worse for him, the handsome guy turns to meet his gaze, making him even more nervous as the guy is not just handsome, he is imposing as well with his tall stature and wide shoulders, looking strong.

Luckily for Bart, the guy smiles politely and introduces himself. His name is Adam.

Bart introduces himself back, as awkwardly as he possibly can. After all, he doesn’t like his own name and is thinking about changing it into something that sounds cool, or at least normal.

”So you are here for the kiss as well?” Hearing Adam ask this question of him makes Bart embarrassed; after all, it is indeed a very embarrassing thing to admit to.

To come all the way here, looking to win a match against a female streamer, just to get a simple kiss from her.... Just how down bad can one get?

”No need to be embarrassed, I can understand,” Adam says as he starts watching the main screen that’s in the middle of Chiperz and her opponent.

Bart looks at Adam, confused, wondering how Adam can ever understand him. Just one glance at Adam and Bart can tell that this man must be drowning in pussies. A man like Adam can never understand the desperation that Bart and other guys similar to him feel.

”Are you nervous?” Adam asks, looking at Bart again.

”Nervous?... Why?” Bart asks. His voice cracks.

”You know, just standing here, waiting for someone else to take away the thing you want the most, are you okay with seeing this guy win and take that kiss away from you?” Adam asks, looking at Bart.

Hearing Adam’s question puts Bart in a state of thought he had never been in before.

Yes, he does feel nervous. He doesn’t want to see someone else kiss Chiperz.

”He... is not going to win... Chiperz is really good....” Bart says, sounding nervous.

Adam chuckles, getting Bart’s attention.

”From the looks of it, they seem equally matched,” Adam says, making Bart alert.

He looks at the match again and sees both Chiperz and her opponent’s character’s health at red, and with one final blow, the opponent takes the lead, earning gasps from the audience present around, while Chiperz’s online chat also starts going crazy as it’s very rare to see her lose a round.

It’s been a while since someone has done this.

Seeing this, Bart clenches his fist tightly; he turns to look at Adam and sees Adam’s face completely neutral, as if he really doesn’t care if Chiperz loses or not.

Bart feels a sense of shame wash over him, seeing how nonchalant Adam is over this. He, on the other hand, is losing his cool over the possibility of seeing a girl who doesn’t even know him personally kiss another guy.

The third round begins, and it’s the same as before. Chiperz and her opponent are going blow for blow; both their characters end up in red once again, making everyone nervous.

After all, none of them wants to see their beloved streamer kiss that ugly guy, but from the looks of it, the possibility of it happening is really high.

But then disaster strikes. The opponent manages to slip past her defenses and lands the critical blow, putting the opponent on a point lead over Chiperz, and this causes chaos.

The crowd starts getting rowdy, and so do the people in her chat.

They express their disbelief, starting to pray to their chosen god to ensure that Chiperz manages to pull out a victory.

Even the girl in question, Chiperz, looks nervous.

She never thought this day would come. Someone is actually very close to defeating her in this game.

She is the third-highest-ranking player in this game globally. For her to lose to a random ugly dude would be a tremendous blow. On top of that, she will have to kiss the guy. Just the thought disgusts her.

One more win and it’s all over.
