Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 20: 20 go to the market

Queens, little fairies, cuties, happy holidays!

”Girl, there are snake skin bags and burlap bags for sale in the market today. I need to buy some, we don’t have many at home and they’re running out.

You should also prepare, you’ll need them for the autumn harvest next year.”

”Alright, I really didn’t think of that.”

The mother and daughter squeezed into the crowd, ”Fellow villager, how much is one of these burlap bags?”

”Ten cents, the snake skin bags are also ten cents.”

”Can it be cheaper if we buy more, fellow villager?”

”How many do you want to buy?”

”Thirty snake skin bags, thirty burlap bags.”

After Hu Chunhua spoke, Su Yuanyuan whispered beside her, ”Aunt, isn’t that too few? I think I need to buy the same amount.”

”Then how about fifty of each? What’s the best price?”

”Nine cents.”

”No way, that’s too expensive. Seven cents, seven cents each.”

”No way. Seven cents is too little.”

”Others sell them for eight cents each. Besides, we’re buying so many. You’re selling a hundred, it’ll take a long time to sell, sell more at once, earn the same.”

”Seven and a half cents.”

”Seven cents, I’m really not giving you any less.”

The others picking bags nearby also stopped what they were doing.

The seller saw this wasn’t working. ”Fine, seven then, but you must buy at least a hundred.” It’s rare for a single customer to buy a hundred at a market, it’s profitable and saves trouble.

Hu Chunhua didn’t fuss, she straightforwardly took two bundles of burlap bags and one bundle of snake skin bags.

Su Yuanyuan handed over seven yuan. Now both their baskets and hands were full.

”Hey, bag seller. I’m buying ten, can you sell them to me for seven cents each as well?”

”No way, must buy a hundred. Fewer than that, the price can’t work, still ten cents each.

At seven cents each, I only earn twenty of a cent.”

In the end, a few people gathered together, he wanted ten, and another wanted twenty. They were still short by twenty, so the woman who haggled earlier found another woman, and finally, seven people gathered a hundred bags.

After they all left, the seller laughed, this is good, otherwise, I’d sell them for eight cents each. Even though I knew I made one cent less per bag, with two hundred bags, usually, I wouldn’t sell this much. This way, I earned more than when I usually set up stall.

”Girl, Aunt will give you the money later.”

”I’m not in a hurry.”

”Let’s go find Peilin first, he can watch our stuff.”

Su Yuanyuan saw someone selling wooden basins and buckets again. But she couldn’t buy them now, her hands were full.

Finally found Yang Peilin in the middle.

”Peilin, these are the things I bought, too many, I’m leaving them here with you, I’m going to look around a bit more. I’ll come back to get them.”

”No problem, I brought my cart, I can push it back.”

”We’ll see later. By the way, how much have you sold?”

”Just over ten pounds left to sell out.”

”Alright, I bought over seven pounds of cotton from your house this morning. My third aunt said your cousin is also here selling fabric, do you know where he is?”

”Just ahead. Sister-in-law, are you buying fabric?”

”Yes, this girl has nothing, and it’s about to snow, need to make quilts. I’m going to find your cousin.”

Only then did Su Yuanyuan address him as Uncle.

Yang Peilin looked at the little girl, knowing she got the money, actually preparing these was the smartest thing.

”Go ahead, just mention my name, today my cousin brought a lot of fabric. I even saw some dyed ones.”

Su Yuanyuan thought she definitely didn’t want dyed fabric, just white cotton fabric, it would be comfortable to cover with.

”Aunt, is that a millet pillow?”

”Yes, you don’t have a pillow yet, just buy a pound when we come back and it’ll be enough.”

In her past life, Su Yuanyuan loved millet pillows, even after she had money, she still used millet ones. They felt comfortable.

After walking a few meters, they saw someone selling fabric.

Hu Chunhua approached, ”Fellow villager, are you Peilin’s cousin?”

”I am, who are you?”

”I’m the sister-in-law from Peilin Village, here to buy fabric from you.”

”Sure, I’ll definitely give sister-in-law a discount.”

Hearing this, Hu Chunhua found it hard to haggle.

”Cousin, how much is this white cotton fabric per foot?”

”Sister-in-law, it’s thirty cents, the dyed ones are thirty-five cents per foot, I’ll sell it to sister-in-law for twenty cents, and twenty-five cents.”

”Okay, cut a set of bedding for me. All in this white cotton fabric.”

”Okay, the width is all three feet, a quilt that’s seven feet long is enough, but the width all needs five feet. You’ll need two pieces. The mattress should be six feet, one piece wide is enough, and there’s still over a foot for the quilt head.

If you don’t want the dyed quilt top, all in white cotton fabric, you’ll need forty feet.”

”Okay, cut it for me then, the leftover fabric can make the pillows and quilt head.”

While they were talking, Su Yuanyuan was browsing on the side, seeing some old coarse cloth. It’s the same pure cotton fabric that was used as summer mats in her past life.

”Uncle, how much is this material?”

”This is cheaper, I’ll give it to you for ten cents a foot, it’s three feet wide as well.”

”Aunt, I think I’ll make a duvet cover, all white cotton fabric is too hard to keep clean, using this on the outside will be cleaner. I’ll use this for mattress covers too.”

”That works, that way you don’t have to wash the quilt so often.”

It also takes some time to cut forty feet of fabric, so the mother and daughter continued browsing.

”Aunt, do you think this dyed fabric will fade? Look, this is coarse fabric, if it doesn’t fade, I want to use it to make a cotton coat, also a set of outerwear.”

”It’ll definitely fade. It can’t compare to factory-made fabric, but if you soak it overnight it won’t fade. But then it won’t look good.”

”Aunt, I just need it to be durable.”

”Okay, let’s get this. We’ll ask him later which faded one still looks okay.”

Su Yuanyuan thought the ginger yellow one looked nice.

Over here, actually, the forty feet were already measured, ”Sister-in-law, this cotton fabric shrinks, I’ll leave you an extra two feet for allowance.”

”Thank you so much, brother. Truly a sincere person.”

Over here, the old coarse fabric was measured to forty-two feet.

”Brother, this kid wants to make cotton clothes, which dyed one still looks okay if it fades?”

”Sister-in-law, let me tell you, our family’s dye recipe is secret, the fade isn’t serious, but this little girl should choose this ginger yellow, although it shows dirt easily.”

”Give me six feet of ginger yellow, and seven feet of blue.”

”This I’ll leave you for fifteen cents a foot.”

Finally, for both types, he gave an extra foot to each but really didn’t give less.

”Sister-in-law, the two cents a foot is eight yuan, the one cent a foot is seven yuan. For these two dyed ones, give me a total of one ninety, making it thirteen eighty in total.”

”Alright, still cheaper.”

”You’re from my aunt’s village, it’s no problem.”

Su Yuanyuan pulled out fourteen yuan, and the fellow gave back ten cents change.

”Brother, leave the fabric here for now, we’ll look around some more. I’ll come back to get it.”

”Sure, don’t worry. I have one piece of fabric to wrap it.”

Hu Chunhua thanked him again. The mother and daughter went back to the market with empty hands.
