Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 272: Chapter 262: Returning Home

Tang Mo had the idea to release the flock of sheep the moment she walked into the tent.

Hulan Base’s population wasn’t large, and the mutant sheep had a terrifyingly high reproductive rate. The small base simply couldn’t sustain so many sheep.

Both the space required to raise them and the food the flock needed were major problems.

The vast grasslands, on the other hand, were full of food for them. Instead of trying to control the flock’s breeding because they lacked the manpower to gather enough food, it was better to release them back onto the steppe.

In truth, Tang Mo wasn’t doing this solely for the Bear Clan.

As Tang Mo saw it, the current conflict between humans and the Bear Clan was a problem that could be completely solved by releasing the sheep.

That way, the humans wouldn’t get bored from being well-fed and go looking for trouble, and the Bear Clan wouldn’t be so hungry that they had no choice but to steal sheep.

In a way, Tang Mo’s actions were even more for the sake of humanity.

The apocalypse had only just begun. If Hulan Base continued to control the only food source on the grasslands, then over time, driven by hunger, the Bear Clan would inevitably be forced to act.

Even if the Bear Clan harbored goodwill toward humans deep down, nothing was more important than survival.

At full strength, humans were no match for bears.

Returning the flock to the grasslands was the best way to maintain ecological balance.

The vast grasslands were better suited for the flock to thrive and multiply. Humans and the Bear Clan could then spend their excess energy on hunting sheep instead of slaughtering one another.

Only by following the laws of nature could all of Earth’s inhabitants continue to live better lives.

A principle Tang Mo had vaguely grasped in the fishing village was further confirmed here.

’Perhaps the apocalypse came to remind people that humanity isn’t the master of the Earth. Harmonious coexistence is the true meaning of it all.’

’Unfortunately, not everyone can understand this.’

Tang Mo shook her head, putting the matter of the grasslands aside for now and hurrying on her way home.

She didn’t plan on going to the next totem location. She still had two unabsorbed orbs of light in her sea of consciousness.

’If I can only find them but not absorb them, then there’s no point in having them.’

Tang Mo understood the principle of not biting off more than you can chew. So, she wasn’t in a hurry to find the remaining two orbs. Instead, she planned to focus on improving herself first.

Lately, she had been so busy rushing from place to place that she hadn’t had a proper chance to cultivate in a long time. She couldn’t keep getting her priorities backward like this.

Tang Mo looked at the leaderboard, her mind clear.

If the Spirit Attribute orb hadn’t given her extra attribute points, her own attributes would have long since dropped out of the top one hundred.

She had never been one to rely on external items, and now she felt an even greater sense of urgency.

On the way back, Tang Mo didn’t remain idle while traveling at top speed.

The mutant beasts she encountered along the way were perfect opportunities for her to practice.

There was still quite a distance between her current location and S Base. To reach her destination faster, Tang Mo came up with a new way to travel.

She used her spiritual power to create a supportive force under her feet, lifting her body slightly off the ground. This made her much faster, almost as if she were riding some kind of vehicle.

If Tang Mo had seen Ah Bin use his spiritual power to form a flying carpet, she would have realized her own imagination wasn’t wild enough. This world was full of people with fantastical ideas.

Still, Tang Mo was already moving very quickly, and she was quite satisfied with her speed.

Along the way, Tang Mo also noticed that there seemed to be fewer mutant beasts.

Basic-level Mutant Beasts, in particular, were almost nowhere to be seen.

This was not a good sign. Mutant beasts didn’t just vanish into thin air. There were only two reasons for the decrease in Basic-level Mutant Beasts.

One was that they were being devoured by higher-level mutant beasts, and the other was that they had evolved!

Just as humans could grow stronger by increasing their attribute values, mutant beasts could also evolve through various means.

Tang Mo was startled by her own thought. ’Does that mean in the later stages, the world will be filled with Advanced Mutant Beasts, or even Earth Level, Heavenly Level, and Divine-level Mutant Beasts?’

In truth, there was no need for such surprise, because Tang Mo’s theory would soon be confirmed.

At that moment, Tang Mo couldn’t help but wonder if the butterfly effect from her rebirth had instantly ramped up the apocalypse’s survival difficulty from ”Hard” to ”Hell.”

In her past life, she had survived for several years, and there hadn’t been nearly as many strange occurrences back then.

’Then again, it’s still too early to tell whether many of these things are a blessing or a curse.’

It was evening again by the time Tang Mo reached S Base. She had been away from home for quite a while this time.

S Base’s defensive fortifications had been further improved. Perhaps thanks to the lesson from the last mutant beast siege, the base now exuded a sense of security even when viewed from the outside.

Tang Mo nodded in satisfaction. ’Looks like Uncle Wen and the others are very competent leaders!’

Even though she wasn’t physically in S Base, Tang Mo was still well-informed about many of the goings-on there.

Qin Ling was no longer handling the base’s administrative affairs. He spent most of his time leading his squad outside on various missions.

As for the base’s affairs, aside from military matters which remained firmly in Qin Ling’s grasp, everything else was managed entirely by the Wen Family and the Li Family.

By this point, Qin Ling had no need to worry about his position being unstable.

With Qin Ling’s influence growing ever stronger and his personal power more formidable, the Wen Family and the Li Family weren’t fools.

At this stage of the apocalypse, money and authority were no match for a strong fist.

Tang Mo had contacted Qin Ling before returning this time, but as luck would have it, the workaholic Qin Ling was out of the base again, having just led his team on another mission.

Perhaps spurred on by being surpassed by his wife, the already diligent Qin Ling was pushing himself even harder than before.

The first thing Tang Mo did upon returning to the base was go home. She washed up, put her things away, and had a nice meal with her mother, her younger brother, and Uncle Wen.

Having not seen him for a while, she saw that Yangyang had grown quite a bit.

Kids really do grow up fast. Yangyang was now walking steadily and could even say quite a few words.

Tang Mo played with Yangyang for a bit, then said her goodbyes to her mom and Uncle Wen before heading out.

She was going to check on her people.

Qin Ling had arranged for Xiao Tao and Lin Yu to stay in a villa next to his own squad’s.

Of course, Qin Ling had selfish reasons for this arrangement—it meant he could see his wife more often.

When Tang Mo arrived, only Lin Yu and Xianxian were there, having a meal.

Lin Yu was overjoyed to see Tang Mo.

He hadn’t slacked off for a single day since arriving, afraid of squandering the opportunity Tang Mo had given him by recognizing his potential.

Lin Yu’s natural Talent was already excellent, and he had now broken into the top one hundred on the Huaxia leaderboard.

His rank was still low, but he believed that as long as he kept at it, he would definitely climb higher and higher!
