Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 51: Chapter 51 The Cause

”Xiao Yang has acknowledged Little Yezi as his sworn little sister?” After Liu Xing finished recounting the events, Liu Yuan became interested in the fact that Song Xiaoyang had acknowledged Luo Ye as his sworn sister, not mentioning a word about the conflicts and squabbles between the others.

”Yes, Luo Ye and I really hit it off, so I acknowledged her as my sworn sister,” said Song Xiaoyang warmly as he hugged Luo Ye. ”I’ve always wanted a little sister to dote on!”

Liu Yuan pondered for a moment, nodded politely to everyone, and turned to Liu Xing, ”Xingxing, make sure to take good care of everyone. Yang Xing, Xiao Yang, Little Ye’er, come with me to the main table!”

”Brother, I will, don’t worry!” Liu Xing quickly stood up in response and stole a glance at Luo Ye, a trace of reluctance in his eyes.

The young people seated around the table felt slightly moved. They could accept Yang Xing and Song Xiaoyang going to the main table, but it was uncomfortable for Luo Ye to join them as well. However, with Liu Yuan’s authority there, no one dared to say anything outright.

Wang Xiaoping, on the other hand, was quite happy. In her view, once Luo Ye and Song Xiaoyang left, Liu Xing would definitely notice the beauty of her, this eloquent flower!

Luo Ye, holding Song Xiaoyang’s hand, had a sweet smile on her lips, but her eyes were devoid of any warmth. It wasn’t because of anyone’s particular fondness for her, nor was it her father’s position that entitled her to sit at the main table. It was because Song Xiaoyang’s grandfather was the current Deputy Secretary and Acting Governor Song Liqing. The Liu Family indeed wanted to leverage every little thing.

When Luo Ye approached Wen Xin, she gently held her mom’s hand, signaling her to relax. Obviously, her mom thought she was being taken to see the parents as one of the troublemakers, the worry in her eyes was clear.

Nie Cui noticed the mother and daughter’s subtle gestures and patted Wen Xin lightly with a smile, ”It must be something good, just look at Yuanyuan’s expression. Don’t worry about it.”

Xiang Xiaohua’s face soured instantly. She had been relying on the tenuous family connection to have her son shamelessly follow behind Song Xiaoyang. Now it seemed her son was being left behind.

Something good? What good thing could it be? As she watched the female guests comforting Wen Xin with tones full of flattery, Xiang Xiaohua’s heart soured even more.

At today’s banquet, Nie Cui was very obviously providing more attention to Wen Xin, and naturally, others followed suit based on the Secretary’s wife’s cues. It seemed that the face she had because of her uncle’s support was now all given to Wen Xin by Nie Cui.

According to her, Nie Cui must have taken a fancy to Luo Ye as a daughter-in-law. This made her even more displeased, as just a few days ago, she had been snubbed. If the Luo and Liu families were united in marriage, her position in the compound would really be much lower than Wen Xin’s!

Wen Xin anxiously glanced towards the main table. After several children wished Grandpa a happy birthday, Grandpa’s eye-crinkling laughter finally eased her anxious heart.

Seeing Wen Xin’s expression relax, Nie Cui smiled and said, ”Didn’t I tell you it’s alright? Look at how happy my old man is. Sister-in-law, you know his rules; girls normally aren’t allowed at the men’s table. He let Little Ye’er and Xiao Yang sit next to him, which means these two kids have really pleased him!”

If Luo Ye heard Nie Cui’s explanation, she would certainly sneer inwardly. What does it mean to please Grandpa? It’s clearly because she suited the motives behind Liu Zhengxing’s career, that Grandpa made an exception.

In the time of their conversation, the guests at the main table were all made aware of Song Xiaoyang acknowledging Luo Ye as his sworn sister. Song Xiaoyang announced it in front of everyone and made a detailed phone call to his family about it. Afterwards, he passed the phone to Old Mr. Liu, whose eyes were already narrowed to slits and now squinted even tighter.

Liu Zhengxing’s laughter became much heartier, not because he was happy for Luo Ye, but because he felt Governor Song had given him enough face. Before, he wasn’t aware of Song Xiaoyang’s identity. He only understood after chatting with the newly appointed Mayor Yang Songping that his grandson was actually the granddaughter of Acting Governor Song, and he couldn’t help but feel annoyed that he had been slow to show proper respect.

Yang Songping’s family background and credentials were not something he could match, and he also got insider information that the other party would stay here for at most two years, advising him to cooperate well. He fully understood the meaning behind these words.

He was aware of his own standing. Clinging to the Yang Family’s big tree would still require time, and as for the Song Family, he was somewhat qualified. He also understood the profound implication behind Yang Songping telling him about Song Xiaoyang’s identity. He noticed some commotion at the young people’s table earlier and took the opportunity to send Liu Yuan over to invite Song Xiaoyang and Yang Xing, as for Luo Ye, it was a spur-of-the-moment decision by Liu Yuan, which was precisely why he was satisfied with his eldest son. Many things didn’t need to be explained at all; he was sure to do them to your satisfaction.

However, Liu Zhengxing found it very strange that Song Xiaoyang agreed to acknowledge Luo Ye as her younger sister. Given Song Xiaoyang’s family background, she shouldn’t be doing such a thing lightly, even if they hit it off well, especially since it was their first meeting.

According to his observations and the implications in Mayor Yang’s words, Song Xiaoyang was pursuing Yang Xing, who seemed to be playing hard to get. Could it be... Liu Zhengxing looked at Song Xiaoyang with a glance that suddenly held appreciation.

At this moment, Luo Zhenggang was also exceedingly puzzled by this matter, especially after Song Xiaoyang slid the bracelet off her wrist and insisted that his daughter accept it. His brows knitted slightly. Surely, there must be a reason for everything?

The guests at the main table looked at Luo Zhenggang with slightly different eyes. Although the relationship between the children might not really help Luo Zhenggang with anything, they would have to consider it to some extent in the future.

They couldn’t help but envy Luo Zhenggang’s good luck inwardly. His past promotion was due to opportunity, and now, attending a birthday party, he had this kind of good fortune come knocking on his door. Moreover, judging by Luo Ye’s attitude, it was Song Xiaoyang who eagerly made the move. How unreasonable!

When Song Xiaoyang made the phone call earlier, the Song Province Governor clearly doted on his granddaughter, consenting at once, which also signified that it wasn’t just a simple acknowledgment from Song Xiaoyang toward Luo Ye. Could it be that Luo Family’s ancestors have been burning incense all this time?

...

”Ye’er, you’re not usually an impulsive child. Isn’t accepting this bracelet a bit abrupt?” Back at home, Wen Xin finally had the chance to express her concerns.

”Mom, don’t worry. If I didn’t accept it, some people would be even more concerned!” Luo Ye smiled, looking at Luo Zhenggang with a creased brow: ”Dad, it’s not complicated. Song Xiaoyang likes Yang Xing. She probably worries about me being close to Yang Xing and thought of this way to tie me down. I have no interest in Yang Xing at all, so I might as well fulfill Song Xiaoyang’s wish; that’s all there is to it!”

Wen Xin’s face changed in an instant: ”Ye’er, you and that Song Xiaoyang were in the restroom for a long time in the middle of the event, she didn’t threaten you, did she?”

Luo Ye, laughing, hugged Wen Xin: ”Mom, you’re comparing her to the likes of Wang Xiaoping. She would never do something so foolish. She, well, said a lot of heartfelt things to me, then asked me to keep an eye on Yang Xing for her, and if I spotted any girls chasing him, to tattle to her. Isn’t she making her intentions quite clear to me with such a conversation?”

”This girl, seemingly forthright, turns out to be so calculating!” Wen Xin, with a face of discontent: ”Not only does what she did lead others to misunderstand that our family has hit it big once again, but Xiang Xiaohua is almost drowning me in her vinegar!”

”Pfft!” Luo Ye was amused by her mom and couldn’t help laughing, instantly lightening her slightly burdened mood. Some things, though one might claim to be indifferent, still cause discomfort.
