Percy Jackson: The Firstborn

Chapter 127: Chapter 127: A Devil’s First Mistake

Ham Halal was a fairly normal high-class restaurant at first glance. Clean tables, calm lighting, and a pretty good smell of freshly made food. The funny part was that there was no one inside. If Damon had not known that a Maou was waiting for him there, he would have thought it was simply another quiet place in a common Japanese city. But he knew better than that. Around the area, he could not feel anyone, at least no mortal or human being. He assumed the Maou had taken care of the matter, preferring to have no guests rather than unwanted guests.

The redhead entered without hurry, letting the door close behind him. His eyes quickly swept over the place, seeing a few empty tables and, at the back of the restaurant, a woman with blue-violet hair sitting upright with her legs crossed. She was smaller than Damon had expected, with bright violet eyes and a sweet smile. She wore a black dress with purple and gold details, fitted enough to favor her figure without losing elegance. The black stockings reached above her thighs, and the dark heels completed an image that had nothing to do with the innocent aura the Maou was trying to project.

At first glance, she seemed like a pleasant person. Even harmless, if someone was idiotic enough to believe only in appearances. But Damon had dealt with enough people like her to know when someone was truly harmless, and besides, she was a devil, not a damn angel. That said, it did not take much more for the redhead to understand that this was Serafall Leviathan. If not, who else would be there waiting for him? Besides, he could feel the Maou’s power. It was nothing out of this world compared to the things Damon had seen, but at least it was somewhat respectable.

While Damon had his own thoughts, the Maou also analyzed him carefully. She had to admit that Damon was not what she expected. She had imagined another god trying to look older and more imposing than he really was, not someone with such a good appearance. It was not an inconvenience, but it undoubtedly would have been easier to deal with someone like Odin, someone simple to manipulate with her body and a few glimpses of skin.

That said, in the end, he was a Greek. All Greeks were supposed to fall for the same things sooner or later, and the power she could feel from him left much to be desired. Serafall calculated that, if she had to place him within the devil’s rankings, Damon would be somewhere around ultimate-class. Strong, yes, but nothing they could not control. How had someone like him taken control of a pantheon? Who knew. Maybe the Greeks were weaker than everyone thought. Sirzechs might be right: the Greeks were nothing to worry about. Her smile deepened a little more, unaware of the reality of the god sitting in front of her.

Without further delay, the Maou raised her hand, pretending she had only just seen him, waving it from side to side with far too much enthusiasm for someone sitting alone in an empty restaurant. ”Damon-sama!” Serafall said with a huge smile, as if greeting an old friend. ”Over here.”

Damon, coming out of his thoughts, rolled his eyes at the Maou’s dramatic scene. There was no one here besides the two of them, so there was no reason to even raise her voice. Snorting internally, the redhead began walking in her direction. Wondering whether that was the Maou’s real way of acting or a strategy to make others lower their guard, after dealing with so many people throughout his life, he had learned to distrust anyone who tried to be friendlier than necessary when they did not even know each other.

”Leviathan,” Damon greeted when he arrived in front of her.

Serafall tilted her head with an amused shine in her eyes. ”You can call me Serafall. Leviathan really does not suit me,” the violet-eyed woman said with a bright smile.

Damon took a seat across from her. ”Serafall, then.”

The Maou’s smile widened a little. ”Much better,” she said while taking one of the menus and offering it to him with both hands. ”Before we talk about serious things, do you want to order something? The food here is pretty good. I promise I did not invite you to an empty restaurant just to talk about boring things.”

Damon accepted the menu, more out of courtesy than anything else. ”Hmm, I don’t know. That sounds like something someone would say before doing exactly what they said they wouldn’t do,” the redhead said with a clear double meaning, though the Maou did not seem to catch it at all.

Serafall let out a small laugh, bringing a hand to her lips. ”How could you think that? I would never do such a thing. It goes against my principles, and besides, I am trying to be a good hostess.” Damon focused on the menu to hide it, though internally he did not believe a single thing. Principles? Yes, sure. Since when did a devil have principles? Damon almost wanted to laugh at what the Maou said.

That said, the redhead decided to play along. ”You’re doing well, though emptying the whole restaurant takes away a bit of the natural feeling, don’t you think?” Serafall puffed her cheeks out in an exaggerated manner. ”It was for privacy. Besides, I didn’t want any human ending up hearing things they shouldn’t.” Damon lifted his gaze from the menu. ”Hmm, I suppose I can respect that,” the redhead replied simply.

The Maou seemed satisfied with the answer. She leaned forward a little, resting her elbows on the table and bringing her hands together under her face. The gesture seemed innocent, but the way her clothes marked her figure and the way her eyes did not stop studying every reaction from Damon told the redhead something else.

Even so, Damon said nothing. He was a little amused by the Maou’s actions. Sure, she was beautiful and all, but she was nowhere near the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. The fact that she expected him to simply fall easily would have worked if he were some ordinary Greek, but unfortunately for her, he was not. Though he had to give her some points for effort. Clearly, she had done her homework, researching and discovering that Greeks usually thought more with their dicks than with their heads. If Zeus were here right now, Damon had no doubt he would already be saying whatever nonsense the Maou wanted to hear.

”So,” Serafall said, tilting her head a little, ”what do you think of Kuoh so far?”

Damon closed the menu and left it on the table. ”It is quiet. Though a little out of the ordinary, I would say,” the redhead replied, though the truth was that he knew nothing about Kuoh. He had not explored this city at all. He preferred spending time in Takamagahara with Amaterasu.

Serafall blinked with innocence. ”Ara, things out of the ordinary?”

Damon looked at her calmly at her act. ”I think you know what I mean.” Serafall’s smile did not disappear, but her eyes shone with a little more interest. ”Wow. Then you really are as perceptive as they say.”

Damon leaned back a little in his seat. ”Hmm, I don’t know. Depends on where you heard it. People mostly know nothing about me.”

Serafall played with a lock of her blue-violet hair. ”Oh, really?”

Damon did not even respond to her doubt. He only looked at her with a barely raised eyebrow, waiting for her to continue. Serafall smiled and, as if she had just remembered something, shifted slightly in her seat. ”Ahhh, what a long day,” the violet-eyed woman complained, deliberately moving her chest while slipping her feet out of her heels beneath the table. She let out a comfortable sigh and crossed one leg over the other with a naturalness. Damon did not notice much more than the change in posture. He simply raised an eyebrow at the woman’s attitude, wondering when she was going to get to the point.

”So, what’s it like being the leader of the powerful Olympus?” she asked with a playful smile, resting her cheek on one hand. ”I imagine it must be very fun. I have heard many great things about you.”

”Yes, it is fun. It comes with its own sacrifices, though I imagine being a Maou has even more terrible sacrifices,” Damon replied calmly.

Serafall nodded dramatically at once. ”So many. Meetings, annoying nobles, and endless documents....normal things,” the Maou began to say, moving her hands, complaining about this and that. ”Though I suppose you Greeks have a more entertaining way of handling stress.”

Damon left the menu on the table and looked directly at her. ”Is that so??”

Serafall smiled sweetly, as if the question had no hidden meaning. ”Well, the Greeks have a certain reputation. Parties, wine, romances, beautiful goddesses... ” The Maou let out a small laugh, tilting her head a little. ”Do not misunderstand me. I do not mean it as something bad. In the Underworld, we also know how to appreciate beauty. In fact, we have many beautiful women of all kinds...”

As she spoke, Serafall moved one leg beneath the table. Her foot brushed softly against the lower part of Damon’s leg, deliberately, near his ankle. The Maou kept smiling with the same innocent expression, her violet eyes fixed on the redhead’s face. Damon, for his part, showed no reaction on the outside, but internally he was wondering how shameless this woman was though she is a devil.... That said, if he did not know she was trying to take advantage of him, he would not have had a problem with it...

”Wow, the Underworld sounds very interesting, honestly. Are you selling it to me as a tourist destination?” the redhead replied, keeping his composure, matching the violet-eyed woman’s amused expression.

Serafall let out a small playful laugh. ”And what if I am? It would be a shame if the great great leader of Olympus only knew the political side of devils. Sometimes a good impression can be very well received and avoid many problems, don’t you think?” the Maou said with calculated sweetness, making it clear between the lines what she really meant: I am giving you an easy way out if you cooperate. At the same time, her foot continued brushing Damon’s leg under the table, slowly rising just to his calf, while she kept that playful smile on her face. ”Besides,” she added, tilting her head and winking at him, ”it would be very rude of me not to show hospitality.”

Damon adjusted himself better in his seat, his eyes fixed on the violet-eyed woman’s. ”That sounds like a wonderful idea.”

Serafall’s smile became a little brighter. ”Right? After all, it would be better to avoid unnecessary problems and begin a pleasant relationship between our factions, don’t you agree, Damon-sama?” The Maou tilted her face slightly, letting her blue-violet hair fall over one shoulder while her tone became a little softer. While under the table, her foot continued shamelessly moving up Damon’s leg, brushing his calf until it was close to his knee. ”And you seem like someone who could enjoy good company... someone who knows how to take good care of you.”

Serafall smiled internally. She had him exactly where she wanted him. The Maou slid a few more caresses along Damon’s leg while maintaining her sweet expression. Though she had to admit that the redhead was tough. At the very least, he was trying not to show a reaction, but in the end, men were always easy. A pretty smile, a few small caresses, and a few well-chosen words. Sooner or later, they fell, the violet-eyed woman thought, internally pleased.

But, unfortunately for her, Damon was not that type of man. Not when someone was trying to take advantage of him so deliberately.

Before the Maou could go any further, Damon moved one hand under the table quickly and held her by the ankle. It was not rough at all, but it was firm enough to stop her cold. Serafall froze completely for a moment. She had not even felt any intentions from the redhead beforehand. That made her a little nervous. He was not showing satisfaction, nor nervousness. Absolutely nothing at all. And to the Maou, that was strange. After all, she had dealt with enough arrogant nobles to know when someone was interested. Normally, she had them in her hands before they realized it. But this was different. Wasn’t he supposed to be just another Greek?

Damon tightened his grip on the Maou’s ankle a little, pulling her quickly out of her thoughts. ”Serafall,” he said with a calm voice, but firm enough to make it clear that this was not a game. ”I am sure dealing with beautiful female devils can be a very entertaining experience. And I will not insult you by pretending you are not good at what you do.”

The Maou’s expression faltered slightly before settling back into her usual smile. ”Ara, Damon-sama. I did not think you were one of the difficult ones,” she said, trying to maintain her composure while the playful shine returned to her eyes. ”I like that.”

Damon replied instantly. ”I am not denying that you are impressive, Serafall,” the redhead stated. ”But if that is all you called me here for, then I think we are wasting time.”

The redhead released the Maou and interlaced his fingers over the table. ”I have matters to attend to, a pantheon to lead, and women just as beautiful as you or far more beautiful waiting for my attention. So please, let’s save all of this for another time, all right?”

Serafall did not show it, but those simple words struck her pride harder than she would have liked to admit. She did not really know Damon, but no woman liked being told to her face that she was not enough, especially when she was used to her appearance drawing attention with ease.

Damon leaned back in his seat, relaxed, unaware of the small internal dilemma he had just caused in the Maou. ”So I would appreciate it if you got to the point of this meeting.”

Serafall did not respond immediately. She slowly withdrew her foot from the redhead’s space and adjusted herself in her seat with elegance, trying to regain her composure without letting too much show. She put on an understanding smile to cover her internal bitterness, bringing her attempt to make things easy with Damon to an end.

”Wow,” she finally murmured, looking at the redhead with renewed interest. ”You are definitely not like the Greeks from the stories.”

Damon let out a small laugh, letting the mistaken beliefs slide for now.....”Let’s focus on the present rather than making assumptions based on the past, as it will make things easier for both of us.”

Serafall took her glass of water and took a small sip, using the gesture to gain a few seconds. ”Very well,” she finally said, placing the glass on the table. ”If that is what you want, then let us talk about why I really called you.” Ultimately, she had considered trying to be nice to the redhead because she did not want to hurt his pride, but if he wanted the difficult way, then he would have it. In the end, she was not the one who would end up on the losing side......
