Chapter 132: Chapter 132: Sunset Part 3

For a long moment Master Shuzo did not move. His gaze was wide, his lips parted as he watched the lightning crawl across my body. The sparks flickered in the dim room, painting his features in shifting shades of blue. The silence stretched, broken only by the faint hiss of static rolling off me. Then, slowly, he let out a long, uneven breath. A thin smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, though it was lined with disbelief.

He kept his eyes coated in chakra, the faint shimmer still visible. I caught the strain in his brow, the way his breathing slowed to steady his focus. It was not an easy feat, and it was clear this kind of perception demanded precision and years of practice.

”I have seen something like this before,” he said at last, his voice slow and thoughtful, like each word carried weight. ”The Raikage of the Hidden Cloud cloaks himself in lightning, turning speed and defense into a living armor. Yet this is not the same.”

He leaned forward slightly, gaze following each spark that leapt from my skin. The awe faded into focus, the look of a man pulling apart a mystery. ”His technique wraps the body from the outside in. Yours runs inward first, through every channel, every muscle, every pathway. This is not just armor. This is a full-body reforging.”

For a moment he chuckled softly, shaking his head as if he did not believe what he was saying. ”I spent my life chasing understanding through seals and formulas, always searching for more control. And here you stand, shaping an entirely new state of being with nothing but raw lightning and sheer willpower.”

His gaze lifted, pride now clear in his look, though it mixed with something heavier. ”You have created something terrifying, Noa... and something brilliant. If you can survive the strain, you will not only strike harder or move faster. You will change the very way your chakra interacts with the world. And I would give anything to study what you have just shown me.”

He sat back slowly, as if steadying himself, but his look did not leave me. Pride and curiosity burned together, fighting with the shadow of worry in his expression. ”Konoha is lucky to have a shinobi like you. You are walking a path I never imagined possible.”

His gaze stayed on me, glowing with that strange mix of warmth and hunger for knowledge. ”Tell me, Noa. How did you manage this? What steps brought you here?”

I took a slow breath, sparks still snapping off my shoulders, and forced myself not to shy away. ”It started with circulation. I forced lightning through my chakra pathways, again and again, until it nearly tore me apart. At first it burned, like my veins were splitting open. I could only last seconds, sometimes less, before I had to stop.”

Master Shuzo leaned forward, his attention sharp, drinking in every word like a man dying of thirst.

”I kept at it, little by little. I pulsed the chakra in rhythm with my heartbeat, slowing it when it threatened to overwhelm me. Eventually, my body began to adjust. What felt like tearing became pressure, then weight, then something I could hold. Once I found that rhythm, I expanded it, spreading it further each time until my entire body was saturated with lightning chakra. That was when this state emerged.”

I lifted my hand, a faint arc crawling lazily between my fingers. ”The rhythm is the key. Without it, I would burn out in seconds. With it, I can turn the lightning into something my body accepts, something that strengthens me instead of destroying me.”

Master Shuzo’s lips curved into a fleeting smile, equal parts wonder and amazement. His eyes glimmered with recognition, and I realized he was proud not just of what I had accomplished, but that he had lived to see it.

He stayed quiet for a while, his gaze still fixed on me. The silence was heavy, broken only by the faint crackle of sparks snapping across the stone floor. Finally, he nodded slowly, as though piecing the truth together in his head.

”I thought as much,” he said. His tone was steady, but there was no mistaking the gravity in it. ”This method of yours would kill almost anyone else. Forcing lightning into your chakra pathways is not training. It is destruction. The body is not built to carry that kind of current. If the pain did not break them, the damage would.”

He leaned back, studying the arcs that still clung faintly to my skin, every flicker reflected in his eyes. ”And even if someone survived the first few attempts, it would never work on older shinobi. Their pathways are hardened by years of use, locked into their patterns, set in the mold of their jutsu. Trying to reshape them now would tear their network apart. Only children have the kind of malleability to even attempt this.” ℴℴ𝘮

His gaze narrowed, sharp with both admiration and disbelief. ”However, even among children, no one else would endure it. No one else would face that kind of agony again and again until their body finally accepted it. No other child would have the resolve, the consistency, or the stubbornness to turn something so lethal into strength.”

A weary smile touched his lips. ”Noa, what you have done is reckless... but it is unique. It is something only you could have carved out. No one else in this village could walk this path. This power is yours and yours alone.”

His gaze lingered on me, and I could almost see the shift in his mind. The awe gave way to a sharper hunger, the look of a scholar staring at an endless horizon of new possibilities. His lips moved faintly, muttering through formulas I could not hear.

”Seals,” he whispered, almost to himself. ”Engraved into the body. Arrays that regulate the intake, stabilize the flow, redirect the excess discharge. If this state floods you with raw current, then seals might do what the body alone cannot. Refine it. Contain it. Sharpen it into something greater. A storm given structure. A living circuit.”

His fingers twitched as if already sketching invisible lines in the air. His gaze burned with the same intensity I had seen when he pored over advanced sealing scrolls, hungry for knowledge, unwilling to let the thought slip away.

At last he looked back at me, his voice tight with both excitement and restraint. ”You remember what I told you before. About body seals. About etching arrays into the skin and through the chakra pathways with a chakra tools.”

I nodded slowly.

A thin smile ghosted across his lips, though it carried no humor. ”Yes. I once told you Chakra Etching was a path better left for the future. Dangerous, painful, something I would not let you attempt yet. But after what I have seen today...” He leaned forward, his gaze sharp as a blade. ”For you, it may no longer be something to wait on. For you, it may be necessary.”

He exhaled heavily, his hands tightening together as though steadying his own resolve. ”The benefits we discussed still hold true. Fast-acting storage seals embedded into your body. Reinforcement arrays to brace muscle and bone. Regulators to tame the wild edges of Stormdrive. All of it tied directly to your coils, responding faster and more efficient than anything else out there.”

His voice darkened, weight heavy in every word. ”But so do the risks. You know them. The tool cuts flesh and chakra pathways together, burning them into alignment. A single flaw means collapse. Even success leaves scars that will never fade completely. And the pain... the pain will be worse than anything you have endured so far.”

He fell silent for a long moment, his gaze steady on mine. Then he spoke more softly. ”Before, I dismissed it. Today, I see that you may be the only one stubborn enough to endure it. If you choose this path, Noa, I will not stop you. I will help you. But know this, because of my condition I cannot perform the etching myself. My hands are no longer steady enough, and a lapse might ruin the process. You will have to do it with your own hand, following my guidance. That will make the process even harder, but it is the only way.”

I looked down at the faint sparks still curling across my arms, felt the hum of the storm still lingering in my chest. Part of me wanted to laugh, to break the weight of the moment with sarcasm. But the truth of it settled too deep in me. I clenched my fists and met his gaze. ”Then I will do it.”

For a moment Master Shuzo’s gaze softened. ”I wish Jiraiya were here. Or the Fourth Hokage. In my current state, they would have been the best option.” Sadness crossed his face, stark and unguarded, before he caught himself. ”There are two more people from this village who have the skill. Orochimaru, though he betrayed Konoha, and Danzo, with the added benefit of his ability to draw from an arsenal of battle-ready seals. But I would never entrust either with your life. Orochimaru would have treated you as a subject, and Danzo would brand you as a weapon. Better I take the risk than allow their designs to be carved into you.”

I nodded firmly, my resolve unshaken. Excitement burned at the thought of expanding my strength, even as dread coiled tight at the horror of the pain to come.
