Chapter 605: Kaguya Otsutsuki: Kenichi Amamiya, You Will Die a Horrible Death!
”What is this?”
Amado looked curiously at the container in Kenichi’s hand.
Kenichi gave him a strange look.
He remembered mentioning this thing to Amado before.
Then again, Amado had been buried under one experiment after another lately. Forgetting a minor detail like this was perfectly understandable.
With that in mind, Kenichi briefly explained what the container was used for.
Naturally, he did not tell Amado too much about Kaguya herself.
Kaguya was a special case.
There was no harm in being cautious.
Kenichi looked down at the container, and a faint smile appeared on his face.
He had been tormenting this fragment of Kaguya’s consciousness for quite some time.
Even now, however, Kenichi would not dare claim that he had completely influenced or reshaped it.
Kaguya was simply too powerful.
Even a tiny fragment of her consciousness possessed strength far beyond what an ordinary person could imagine.
Because of that, Kenichi had remained extremely cautious and had never dared to completely release the restraints placed upon it.
Eventually, of course, he would have to test the results.
After some more time passed, Kenichi intended to release the fragment and observe its behavior.
If Kaguya’s consciousness no longer resisted him, that would naturally be the ideal result.
But if it still showed obvious hostility...
Kenichi would probably have no choice but to destroy the fragment completely.
Otherwise, once that fragment returned to Kaguya’s main consciousness, there was no telling what would happen after she was unsealed.
Would she immediately hunt down Isshiki?
Or would she decide to come after Kenichi first?
Kenichi had no intention of gambling on the answer.
”By the way.”
He suddenly remembered the high-precision component they had dismantled earlier.
”Have you figured out how those parts are supposed to be assembled?”
Kenichi had already handed that task over to Amado.
Amado was using Shadow Clones to repeatedly test different assembly combinations.
Kenichi, meanwhile, had shifted his own attention toward the time machine’s energy transport and storage system.
He suspected that if he could understand that part, he might finally uncover how the Otsutsuki Clan had made the machine capable of traveling through time.
”No.”
Amado shook his head.
”I haven’t made much progress yet.”
”According to your description, those components are extremely expensive to reproduce, and with our current technology, some of them may be completely impossible to manufacture.”
”So before I continue experimenting, I want to find some kind of material or protective method that reduces wear.”
Amado did not dare repeatedly manipulate the parts without precautions.
According to Kenichi, the current Shinobi World did not possess the industrial precision needed to reproduce them.
If one of those components became damaged...
There might be no replacement.
Until Amado found some way to prevent unnecessary wear, he did not want to recklessly continue testing.
Kenichi did not object.
In fact, he supported the decision.
That component was one of the most complicated parts of the entire time machine.
It was also the hardest to restore once dismantled.
High-precision components deserved careful handling.
”Amado.”
Kenichi looked toward the time machine.
”What do you think this thing uses as an energy source?”
Amado immediately fell into thought.
He had several theories, but none had produced meaningful progress yet.
”It’s difficult to say.”
”I don’t think it’s made from a single substance.”
He frowned.
”Nothing like this exists anywhere in the Shinobi World, at least nothing we’ve discovered.”
”What worries me most is another possibility.”
”What if the material came from somewhere in outer space?”
”If its raw materials don’t even exist on this planet, then how are we supposed to determine its composition or reproduce it?”
Kenichi fell silent.
That was indeed a serious possibility.
He had already analyzed the strange energy with his Rinnegan.
From what he could determine, the energy seemed to be composed of three distinct components.
One of them was natural energy.
The other two were far stranger.
Kenichi had managed to identify some of their characteristics, but he had never found anything matching them anywhere in the Shinobi World.
That naturally raised the possibility that they originated somewhere beyond the planet.
If that was true...
The problem would become significantly more troublesome.
Still, Kenichi had another idea.
He looked at the energy container taken from the time machine.
That was what he intended to study next.
”Amado.”
Kenichi suddenly asked, ”You know that everything in this world is made up of things too small to see with the naked eye, right?”
”Atoms, for example.”
Amado nodded.
Of course he knew.
He had already conducted microscopic research himself.
But he did not understand what atoms had to do with the time machine’s mysterious energy.
Kenichi, however, had just thought of something unusual.
Mercury.
Also known as quicksilver.
It was a toxic metallic element.
But from an atomic perspective, mercury and gold differed by only one proton in their nuclei.
Gold had one fewer proton than mercury.
If that proton could somehow be removed and the resulting atomic structure stabilized, mercury could theoretically be transformed into gold.
The difference in value between the two materials was enormous.
A kilogram of mercury was worth very little compared with a kilogram of gold.
Back in Kenichi’s previous life, a kilogram of gold could easily represent the down payment on a house.
In some smaller cities, it might even have been enough to purchase an entire property.
The profit margin sounded absurd.
But there was an obvious problem.
How did one remove that proton?
Scientists in his previous world had already attempted nuclear transmutation.
They had even succeeded in producing tiny amounts of gold through such methods, proving that transforming one element into another was theoretically possible.
The problem was cost.
The energy and equipment required were completely disproportionate to the amount of gold produced.
There was no practical way to turn one kilogram of mercury into one kilogram of commercially useful gold at a reasonable cost.
The losses were enormous.
Economically, the entire process was pointless.
That was why no one seriously used nuclear transmutation as a method for manufacturing gold.
Kenichi’s situation, however, was completely different.
His Mangekyo Sharingan possessed the ability to analyze and reconstruct matter.
Combined with his current Rinnegan, that ability had become even more unreasonable.
In terms of microscopic manipulation, Kenichi could practically stand at the pinnacle of this world.
If he returned to his previous life with these eyes...
He might genuinely be able to turn mercury into gold for profit.
And unlike conventional nuclear transmutation, his losses might remain within an acceptable range.
Kenichi’s eyes brightened.
He reached for a laboratory container holding mercury.
Then he activated his Rinnegan and began analyzing it.
This time, he pushed his perception deeper than before.
Molecules.
Atoms.
Nuclei.
Protons.
He continued breaking the structure down until the mercury’s composition became completely visible to him.
Three minutes passed.
Kenichi finally understood the structure before him.
Then a thought crossed his mind.
His ocular power activated.
The mercury underwent what could only be described as microscopic surgery.
A proton was removed from each targeted nucleus.
The next instant...
The material changed.
Its color shifted.
A golden sheen appeared.
Amado stared at it in disbelief.
”This...”
What had just happened?
He had been watching ordinary mercury.
Kenichi had merely stared at it.
And somehow, it had turned into gold.
That was completely unreasonable.
”It worked.”
Kenichi rubbed his eyes.
His theory had been correct.
His Mangekyo ability, or more accurately his current Rinnegan-enhanced version of that ability, really could manipulate matter at this level.
The chakra expenditure was not especially outrageous.
The real problem was the mental and physical strain.
After completing the transformation, Kenichi felt as though he had climbed Mount Tai twice without stopping.
Amado continued staring at the golden material.
”How did you do that?”
The transformed metal had already solidified.
Under the laboratory lights, it reflected a brilliant golden luster.
Amado could not understand it.
That had unquestionably been mercury.
He had personally watched the entire process.
Yet Kenichi had turned it into gold with nothing more than his dojutsu.
Amado knew Kenichi’s eyes possessed strange abilities.
But he had never heard Kenichi describe them as literal alchemy.
”As you can see.”
Kenichi casually picked up the gold and weighed it.
It was approximately ten grams lighter than the original mercury sample.
That loss was almost negligible when compared with the difference in value between mercury and gold.
Even in the Shinobi World, gold was vastly more valuable.
If Kenichi wanted money, this ability alone could probably make him unimaginably wealthy.
But another thought immediately occurred to him.
If he could remove a proton...
Could he also add one?
Kenichi’s expression became increasingly interested.
Why not test it?
He looked at the gold in his hand.
His Rinnegan activated again.
The atomic structure he had just modified became visible.
Kenichi focused.
Then, following his will, he inserted a free proton back into the nuclei.
A faint stab of pain passed through his eyes.
Kenichi instinctively covered them.
When he looked down again...
The gold had turned back into mercury.
He did not even bother explaining anything to Amado.
Kenichi immediately weighed the sample.
This time, the mercury was one gram heavier than before.
”This is interesting.”
Kenichi suddenly laughed.
There was a trace of almost manic excitement in his voice.
He covered his eyes for a moment.
The pain had already disappeared.
It felt no worse than the discomfort from squeezing his eyes shut too tightly.
More importantly, the experiment had proven something extraordinary.
Kenichi could both remove and add protons according to his will.
That ability had little direct combat value.
An enemy was hardly going to stand perfectly still and allow Kenichi to stare at them for several minutes while he manipulated their atomic structure.
And the larger the target, the greater the chakra and physical burden would likely become.
Trying to alter an entire human body this way would be absurdly difficult.
Changing only one proton in a few atoms would accomplish almost nothing.
To meaningfully affect a person, Kenichi would need to alter an entire organ or a massive amount of tissue.
The cost would be enormous.
But Kenichi had never intended to use this as a combat technique.
This was for research.
Specifically...
The time machine.
If the machine’s energy source contained materials or forms of matter that did not naturally exist in the Shinobi World, then perhaps Kenichi did not need to find them directly.
He could search for something structurally similar.
Then, using his ocular abilities, he could add or remove protons until the material became what he needed.
That was the path Kenichi had just imagined.
Unusual?
Absolutely.
But theoretically possible.
”Amado.”
Kenichi’s excitement was obvious.
”I think I’ve found a possible solution.”
He genuinely had never considered approaching the problem from this direction before.
...
Meanwhile, deep within the place where she remained sealed, Kaguya felt strangely restless.
Her face felt hot.
Her teeth clenched in fury.
A fragment of her consciousness had been extracted earlier.
Although Hagoromo, that unfilial son, had been responsible for allowing it to leave, Kaguya had not been completely helpless.
She had prepared her own contingency.
Even while sealed, she could faintly sense what happened to that fragment.
Occasionally, fragments of sensation and memory could flow back to her main consciousness.
And among everything she had learned through that connection, one piece of information had shocked her more than anything else.
Isshiki.
He was alive.
The bastard who had once intended to sacrifice her to the Divine Tree had actually survived.
When Kaguya first learned that, she nearly lost control.
She wanted nothing more than to break free immediately and kill Isshiki herself.
But then she realized something.
Hagoromo genuinely seemed to be considering releasing her.
So Kaguya forced herself to calm down.
She needed to pretend she knew nothing.
Only then could she wait for the right opportunity.
Only then...
Only then...
Kaguya’s thoughts abruptly stalled.
Because at this point, the fragment of her consciousness had nearly been molded into the shape desired by a man named Kenichi Amamiya.
The memories constantly returning from that fragment were absurd.
Dating him.
Living with him.
Marrying him.
Discussing life with him.
Sharing dreams and ideals.
Experiencing an entire imagined life beside that man.
How was Kaguya supposed to tolerate this?
She was Kaguya Otsutsuki.
A member of the proud Otsutsuki Clan.
Even Hagoromo and Hamura had not been conceived through ordinary relations with the indigenous humans of this planet.
Kaguya had produced them through a special internal method of the Otsutsuki Clan.
She had never lowered herself to mating with the primitive humans of this world.
After all...
Would a human normally become attracted to a gorilla?
Kaguya paused.
Actually...
There were probably humans strange enough to do exactly that.
But that was beside the point.
Kaguya was proud.
She could not accept it.
She would not allow herself to become entangled with these backward, inferior creatures.
And yet...
Through that fragment of consciousness, Kaguya had now experienced an entire false lifetime.
A lifetime in which Kenichi constantly cared for her, indulged her, and treated her with excessive affection.
Kaguya had resisted.
She had struggled furiously.
It accomplished nothing.
That fragment of consciousness was far too weak.
Eventually, even Kaguya had begun to grow numb to the repeated experiences.
And now...
Kenichi had apparently begun using even stranger and more elaborate scenarios.
That filled Kaguya with overwhelming rage.
Alongside that rage, however...
There was something else.
A strange feeling she did not want to acknowledge.
As irritating as Kenichi was, he was undeniably skilled at manipulating the emotions of that consciousness fragment.
The experiences he implanted produced reactions so intense that even Kaguya’s main consciousness could faintly feel their echoes.
It made her deeply uncomfortable.
And confused.
”Damn you, Kenichi Amamiya.”
Kaguya gritted her teeth.
”When I get out, I’ll kill you.”
She paused.
”No.”
Her eyes narrowed.
”Isshiki first.”
”That man absolutely cannot be allowed to live.”
”He must die.”
Kaguya took a deep breath and slowly closed her eyes.
As for the fragment of consciousness...
She could not stop what was happening to it anyway.
So for now, she simply gave up resisting.
