Chapter 131: Chapter 130: A Disorganized Mob

WHOOSH!—

Wu Chen’s figure shot up from the ground.

To prevent any blades from landing on Stone Ox, he instantly unleashed his aura. The soft mud under his feet exploded outward. A fierce wind raged out from him, sweeping up the accumulated decaying leaves and muddy grass and blasting them in all directions.

A group of Demon Sect members, unable to dodge in time, were blinded by the dust and scrambled back to get away.

But many were caught off guard and inhaled the dust:

”Ptui! Ptui! Ptui!”

The group spat out the filth, waving their hands frantically as Powerful Qi erupted from their bodies to blow away the swirling leaves.

But in that brief moment, by the time they opened their eyes again, the figures of the ’Direct Disciple’ and the ’Overlord Body’ were nowhere to be seen.

”Damn it! He got away! After him!”

”Don’t let him escape! If a Direct Disciple can have him, why can’t we?”

”Yeah, let’s kill that guy!”

”...”

Rage burned in their eyes. They had finally gotten news that the Overlord Body had left the city, gathered a large group, and spent days searching the forest, only for it to end like this.

How could they possibly stand for this?!

”Who said I ran?”

Just as the group was turning to scan their surroundings for any sign of the Direct Disciple’s escape, a voice appeared as if from a ghost.

This person was, of course, Wu Chen, who had instantly darted a hundred feet out of the encirclement, tossed Stone Ox to a safe distance, and then doubled back.

Even more ephemeral and ghost-like than his voice was his figure.

The moment his voice fell, he appeared before the crowd, a black gleam from his hand sweeping out in the same motion.

Even with just his brute strength, he could now easily decapitate them, to say nothing of the fact that he was wielding a newly forged Tier One weapon.

It made the task all the more effortless.

The black gleam swept past. The heads of five Jade Bone Realm experts flew into the air, and before they could even begin to fall, they vanished as Wu Chen’s figure flashed by, collected into his storage bag.

Fountains of Blood Qi erupted from the Demon Sect members’ necks, followed by warm droplets that splattered onto the faces of those nearby.

”This Direct Disciple has some skill! Everyone, be careful! Attack together!”

”There are over a hundred of us! You’re telling me we can’t kill one guy?”

”Direct Disciples are still human! One good slash and he’s dead! Get him!”

”...”

Five men had been beheaded in an instant, but this didn’t scare off the Demon Sect members. Instead, they began shouting and swarmed forward.

This was just as Wu Chen had expected.

A unit would typically only start to break after losing at least a third of its members.

Killing half of them was necessary to make the rest throw down their weapons and lose their will to fight.

He had only killed five so far. It was barely a start.

Watching the Demon Sect members swarm toward him, Wu Chen was actually delighted. The more he killed, the more Contribution Points he would earn.

If none of them escaped, that would be another several thousand Contribution Points in his pocket!

Faced with a flurry of flashing blades, Wu Chen tapped his toes lightly and dodged with ease.

His current speed was so great that not only could their blades not keep up, but even their eyes could barely follow him.

’But...’

Wu Chen swung his blade to kill, catching the severed heads in his storage bag with his other hand. His movements were a single, fluid motion.

But after killing a dozen or so, he suddenly realized that these Demon Sect members were disappointingly weak. Not a single one could withstand even one of his attacks.

’It’s not that they’ve gotten slower, but that I’ve gotten faster?’

Wu Chen quickly shook his head. He could sense that wasn’t the issue. The real problem was that among these sixty or so people, there were barely any in the late-stage Jade Bone Realm.

They were a complete motley crew, just a rabble thrown together at the last minute.

’Is it because the Blood Slaughter Sect’s Blood Road trial is about to begin that they scraped together this bunch of rejects?’

Wu Chen figured that was probably the reason. Other than preparing for the Blood Road trial, he couldn’t think of anything more enticing to these Blood Evil Demon Sect members than the Overlord Body.

But no matter how low their cultivation realm, they were still Contribution Points, and Wu Chen had no reason to let them go.

He didn’t rely on his physique to charge in recklessly. Instead, he carefully dodged the flashing blades, looking for the perfect opportunity to strike a fatal blow.

With every swing of his blade, three or four more heads fell into his bag.

It didn’t take long before a third of the Demon Sect members had been slain.

Just as Wu Chen had predicted, after more than twenty headless corpses lay on the ground, the Demon Sect members’ movements became timid and hesitant.

Although they clung to the sliver of hope that they might land a single blow, the result of every attack drove them deeper into despair. They couldn’t even touch the hem of Wu Chen’s clothes.

In contrast, Wu Chen’s figure was graceful and elusive, his blade rising and falling with deadly precision.

He would always intercept anyone who tried to flee and cut them down with a single slash.

The remaining Demon Sect members finally lost their nerve, crying and wailing:

”Senior Brother, we’re all from the Blood Slaughter Sect! Please, be the bigger person and forgive our transgressions! Spare us just this once!”

”...”

’Now they decide to acknowledge me as their Senior Brother?’

How could Wu Chen possibly let go of so many Contribution Points? He just continued to swing his blade, killing them and collecting their heads.

This action plunged the remaining sixty or seventy Demon Sect members into complete despair.

They finally understood. This ”Senior Brother” of theirs didn’t just want to use the Overlord Body to concoct a grand medicine; he was going to use them as ingredients, too!

The Demon Sect members finally stopped waiting for death. As if by a silent agreement, with a great RUSTLE, they scattered like birds and beasts.

Fifty or sixty people broke out in all directions. Surrounded by dense forest and hills, even someone as fast as Wu Chen couldn’t possibly stop them all.

’I just need to leave one alive to ask about the Blood Slaughter Sect’s location...’

Wu Chen’s face was covered, so he wasn’t afraid of these people escaping and identifying him. He darted toward the nearest fleeing figure.

It was no difficult task for him. With one hand, he easily slammed the man to the ground, forcing him to his knees.

But just as he was about to begin his interrogation, Wu Chen’s ears twitched. His gaze shifted from the Demon Sect member beneath his hand to the shadowy areas of the surrounding forest.

It was an area difficult to see into with the naked eye, but Wu Chen could clearly sense people approaching at high speed.

’Hm? There’s another ambush?’

While Wu Chen was wondering about this, the fleeing Demon Sect members were suddenly sent flying back out of the woods, immediately followed by a wave of battle cries erupting from the forest.

Clearly, this ambush wasn’t meant for him.

”How dare you cause trouble right under the nose of Refining Valley! You lot have a death wish.”

”Don’t let a single one escape! Execute them on the spot!”

Pang Lei’s booming voice echoed from the woods, and his burly figure emerged from the shadows.

He, too, had naturally learned from Zhuang Bo that the Blood Slaughter Sect had targeted the Overlord Body and that the situation was critical.

He also knew that Wu Chen had come alone to find the Overlord Body and rescue him.

After returning to the sect, he had been thwarted and lost face, so of course he decided to use this opportunity to earn it back!

So, upon receiving the news, he immediately gathered several hundred Inner Sect Disciples and had them quickly spread out through the forest to search for any trace of Stone Ox and the Demon Sect members.

It was only when they heard the sounds of battle a moment ago that they took some time to rush over and surround the area.

”Haha, Younger Brother Wu, was my timing impeccable or what...”

Pang Lei strode out of the woods with a loud laugh. Looking at the distant figure with a covered face and a black blade in hand, he recognized him in a single glance.

After all, he had just gotten a beating from this very person the day before.

But when he fully emerged from the woods and got a clear view of the scene, the smile on Pang Lei’s face froze.

The corpses on the ground were all headless, the cuts at their necks clean and even. It was obvious Wu Chen had handled the battle with ease.

It was nothing like he had imagined—Wu Chen facing the siege of a hundred Demon Sect members, struggling desperately and in need of assistance.

He had thought he was coming to the rescue, but now it seemed he was... a bit superfluous?

’What terrible timing...’

Watching the figures emerge from the forest shadows, Wu Chen sighed helplessly, then raised and dropped his blade, finishing off the live captive in his hand.

He had originally planned to ask for the general location of the Blood Slaughter Sect—at least to get a specific route to make the journey easier.

But to avoid complications, he could only shelve the idea of gathering information for now.

However, he figured he could probably buy things at a black market that ordinary people couldn’t.

For example, a map leading to the Blood Slaughter Sect and the surrounding mountain ranges.

After all, as long as people from the Blood Slaughter Sect were active outside, they were bound to leave traces. They would inevitably be captured alive by other experts and interrogated for the exact route.

It was impossible for such a large Demon Sect to remain completely hidden from the world, unless it never let a single disciple out.

He tossed the severed head into his storage bag. The Demon Sect members who had scattered in all directions had now been completely slaughtered by the disciples Pang Lei brought.

At this point, there was no longer any need to hide his face.

Wu Chen took off his conical hat and face covering, but without any intention of acknowledging Pang Lei, he turned and headed out of the forest.
