Chapter 39: Chapter 39: We Are All Demon Lords

The exchange between Wu Chen and Qian Fugui seemed to involve several moves, but in reality, it was over in an instant.

It happened so quickly that by the time the fight was decided, Liu Lanxiang, Zhao Rui, and Qin Hee, who were all lying on the floor, still hadn’t gotten up.

As Wu Chen’s icy gaze swept over them, the three shivered in unison without knowing why.

They then recalled the terrifying scene from just a moment ago.

Qian Fugui had leaped forward, and in the blink of an eye, his massive body was sent flying back like a ball, crashing out through the window.

Anyone who didn’t know what was happening might have thought he was just putting on some dramatic performance.

The three glanced sideways at the collapsed and shattered section of the wall, now just a gaping hole.

A frigid mountain wind poured in, causing the candlelight inside to sway, alternately brightening and dimming the room.

They then looked back toward the door, at the figure covered in blood and gore, and at his eyes, which gleamed with menacing killing intent in the dim room.

Fear was already showing in their eyes before the fight had even truly begun.

Having failed to kill them with one strike, Wu Chen had no intention of letting the matter drop.

While the three on the ground were still reeling, Wu Chen lunged forward, raised his steel saber, and brought it crashing down toward them.

WHOOOSH!—

Just like with his first move, he was using a Demon Sect technique.

The Howling Ghost Saber Art!

As the steel saber slashed out, the small hut filled with the sharp, piercing sound of the blade’s wind, as if it were about to tear the roof off.

”Move!”

Among the three, Qin Hee was the eldest and had survived several life-or-death battles. His battlefield reactions were considerably faster than the other two.

The moment the blade wind was upon him, he ignored the ear-splitting noise, grabbed the solid wood table beside him, and threw it, dishes and all, toward Wu Chen.

He hoped to block Wu Chen’s attack with it.

But in the face of the torrential blade wind, the sturdy table failed to block the attack and was instead splintered into a dozen pieces.

The bowls and dishes on it shattered instantly, turning into countless sharp projectiles that were swept up by the blade wind and shot toward the three of them.

The three behind the table retreated again and again, dodging desperately in the small room, but were still pierced by numerous porcelain shards.

Their bodies, already riddled with countless wood splinters, were now sliced open with several more wounds that exposed raw flesh.

Scarlet blood gushed from their wounds, soaking their robes and leaving them in a wretched state.

After enduring two of these astonishingly powerful strikes, they finally recognized the whistling gale—it was their own sect’s ’Howling Ghost Saber Art’!

Moreover, the force of this saber art seemed even more terrifying than their own version; its power was more violent, more horrifying!

They had grown up in the Blood Slaughter Sect; there was no way they would misidentify this technique.

’So this person is one of us?’

”Senior! It’s a misunderstanding! A misunderstanding!”

Liu Lanxiang’s red lips parted as she cried out, ”Senior, we’re from the Blood Slaughter Sect, too!”

”We’re all devils here!”

”To hell with you! Who’s a devil like you!”

Wu Chen was so amused by her words that he laughed, though his movements didn’t slow in the slightest. After letting out the laughing curse, his figure drifted to Qin Hee’s side.

He had already identified Qin Hee as the most seasoned fighter among the three; he would be a problem if not dealt with swiftly.

Qin Hee, who had been continuously catching the porcelain shards flying at him, suddenly felt a cold draft from his side and unhesitatingly threw the shard in his hand.

WHOOOSH!

The next moment, the eardrum-piercing shriek erupted again, giving him a splitting headache and causing his vision to double.

Even Liu Lanxiang, who was covering her ears, was stunned.

Within the sect, the Howling Ghost Saber Art was a finishing move, and it was also the most physically draining strike. Its wielder wouldn’t use it lightly unless it was an absolute last resort.

Yet this man had not only used it, he had used it three times!

She had never seen it used so frequently in such a short amount of time.

And by the looks of it, he wasn’t even flushed or out of breath; a fourth or fifth time seemed like it would be no problem at all.

In all his years and all his life-or-death battles, Qin Hee had never witnessed such a scene.

The sharp piece of porcelain had just left his hand, not yet a foot away, when it was blown back at him by the blade wind.

THWACK! THWACK! THWACK!

The porcelain shards all embedded themselves in Qin Hee’s body, and at the same time, several saber wounds deep enough to pierce his heart and lungs appeared on his chest.

SQUELCH! SQUELCH!

Amid the whistling of the blade, his body was sent flying like a limp rag, landing on the ground with a THUD before falling silent.

”Old Qin...”

Zhao Rui was the closest to Qin Hee, and though the two weren’t on the best of terms, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of sorrow at the sight of Qin Hee’s death.

Besides, being one man down made their situation even more disadvantageous.

But before he could dwell on it, Wu Chen raised his steel saber once more.

The blade wind for the fourth Howling Ghost Saber Art was already gathering, ready to be unleashed.

The room was already cramped, and Zhao Rui had retreated into a corner. There was nowhere left to run.

Furthermore, when the three of them first got up to go to the door, they never expected an enemy, so they hadn’t brought their sabers.

This had allowed Wu Chen to seize the initiative, and he’d been pressing his advantage ever since.

Now, with no weapon in hand, how could Zhao Rui possibly block Wu Chen’s powerful saber with his bare hands?

He could only watch, wide-eyed, as the blade descended and blood erupted from his neck.

”Senior!”

After seeing four consecutive displays of power, how could Liu Lanxiang possibly remain standing? Her body went limp with terror, and she collapsed to her knees on the spot, unable to move, letting out a shriek.

Her sleeves were torn by wood splinters and porcelain shards, revealing the delicate, snow-white skin underneath.

At some point, she had also silently undone a few buttons on her top, allowing her ample bosom to become tantalizingly visible.

Tears welled in Liu Lanxiang’s beautiful eyes as she gazed at Wu Chen, looking on the verge of weeping as her red lips parted to speak:

”Senior, I don’t know how I might have offended you.”

”I beg you, be the bigger person and overlook my transgressions. Please spare me.”

”If you spare me, I’ll do anything you ask!”

”Die!”

There was not a flicker of emotion in Wu Chen’s eyes as his fifth strike fell without hesitation upon the alluring Liu Lanxiang.

In an instant, the coquettish Liu Lanxiang was reduced to a corpse, her unblinking eyes wide with disbelief.

Without a single glance at the still-warm corpse, Wu Chen rushed to the window and looked down at the dark, empty ground below.

Qian Fugui’s round, massive body should have been extremely easy to spot.

But after scanning the area, he found no sign of Qian Fugui’s body.

Wu Chen closed his eyes, held his breath, and listened intently, but he heard no footsteps. It seemed the man had already gotten away.

”Damn it, one of them actually got away!” Wu Chen was annoyed.

Having used the Howling Ghost Saber Art five times, his stamina was somewhat depleted. His chest heaved, and his breathing was heavy.

Staring out at the pitch-black, untamed wilderness, he knew chasing after him would be like running around with his head cut off.

He gave up on the idea of giving chase.

Returning to the three corpses, he began to collect his spoils.

This was different from looting martial arts from ordinary Blood Slaughter Sect disciples.

These three were elites from the Demon Sect; who knew if their bodies were laced with poison.

He was wary of a final, posthumous trap from these demonic cultivators.

Wu Chen used his saber to pry the Martial Arts Manuals from the chests of the dead. Then, using a coarse cloth to protect his hands, he wrapped up two of the manuals.

He also found a little over a dozen taels of loose silver, which he added to his bundle.

Wu Chen didn’t inspect the Martial Arts at that moment. He slung the bundle of spoils over his back, turned, and went downstairs to find Liu Linshan’s daughter.

It didn’t take Wu Chen long to find a group of women in the kitchen quarters.

Because he had killed six direct disciples on the mountain, the three leaders and Steward Qian had gotten the news. Having lost their appetites, they had sent the maids to wait in the kitchen quarters.

The group was there now, yawning out of sheer boredom.

”Miss Liu!”

Wu Chen spotted Liu Wei in the crowd at once.

After more than a month of rest, Liu Wei’s skin had grown much fairer, and her complexion was rosy.

She had been dozing at a table and was startled awake by the sound. When she turned and saw Wu Chen in the doorway, an irrepressible smile filled her eyes.

”Brother Wu!”

She had changed her form of address for him. She trotted to Wu Chen’s side, completely unbothered by the overwhelming Blood Qi wafting from him.

Instead, her gaze was filled with concern as she worried that he might be injured.

The dozen or so other people in the kitchen, however, looked toward the door at the sound of her voice and were startled by the sight of Wu Chen, who was covered in blood.

One of them began to back away, her hand quietly closing around a broken blade.

But Wu Chen’s eyes had been scanning the crowd the whole time, wary of any fish that might have slipped through the Blood Slaughter Sect’s net.

He noticed that this particular maid’s expression wasn’t one of fear, but of grim determination. She looked as though she’d realized something and was preparing for a final, desperate struggle.

Wu Chen knew then that she was most likely one of them—a member of the Blood Slaughter Sect.

WHOOSH!

His figure vanished from where he stood. In the next instant, he was before the maid, his hand easily closing around her neck.

With just a slight squeeze, the maid’s face turned blue. She was completely powerless, and the blade in her hand fell to the floor with a CLANG.

The others around them jumped in fright.

”Tell everyone what this place is, and what all of you do here!”

After speaking, Wu Chen slightly relaxed his grip.

The feeling of near-suffocation, which had come and gone in an instant, combined with her will to live, was enough to make the maid—one who often attended to Qian Fugui—spill everything she knew.

As they listened to the maid’s story, the other women and the cooks in the kitchen finally realized that this place was a den of demons!

CRACK!

Having gotten the answers he wanted, Wu Chen showed no mercy. He snapped the maid’s neck and tossed her body out the door.

”Now that you all know what this place is,”

Wu Chen finally looked around at the crowd and said, ”all the demonic cultivators in the Zhuangzi have been killed. Please, all of you, leave quickly.”
