Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 359: Chapter 266: Want to Change Your Fate? (2)

”Huang Tianze, help me find the information on He Jun.”

Lin Feng said to Huang Tianze.

Being students at Demon Star University and the student council president, it was easy for Huang Tianze to obtain He Jun’s information.

”Is her Demon Spirit unusual?” Huang Tianze asked, looking quite surprised.

A Martial Artist with only Second Grade strength, who hasn’t absorbed a single Soul Skill, catching Lin Feng’s interest could only be due to that somewhat special Demon Spirit.

”A fairly special Demon Spirit, although I don’t know the specifics of this Demon Spirit’s abilities, go ahead, she will become a member of our alliance.” Lin Feng said.

”Okay.”

Huang Tianze nodded, not asking further, but was even more surprised at heart; not even knowing the Demon Spirit’s abilities, they were going to include her in the alliance and make her a member.

It’s important to know that Lin Feng’s alliance, although not yet renowned and without even one Grandmaster, gathered the most outstanding talents of the younger generation.

There’s no need to mention Lin Feng, half-beastman Yun Kai, Six-armed Celestial Demon Zhan Tianyu, Thorny Demon Dragon Ye Qiu... all were phenomenal talents attracting national attention.

Even the less powerful Little Sister Dong and Yue Mingming, one a Therapist, the other a Summoner, are Legendary Professions, with none being a simple character.

More importantly, Lin Feng’s Peace Contract and the ability to enhance Soul Skill success rates; Huang Tianze could be certain, in just a few years, this alliance would draw the focus of the nation, and even the world, destined for a brilliant future.

What special value did this He Jun have that allowed her to join them?

...

In a secluded pavilion, He Jun dialed the video call to her home. After a few rings, it was disconnected, and after a while, her phone rang. He Jun answered, and a middle-aged woman appeared on the phone screen; she seemed to be in her fifties or sixties, with hair turning gray and sagging skin, looking weathered and tired.

”Mom.”

He Jun called out, as her mother was wearing a work uniform and currently working, so she lowered her voice.

”Xiaojun, what’s up? Why can’t I see you there?”

Mom He covered the phone, went to a corner, and also lowered her voice.

By regulation, you can’t answer calls during work hours, and if you run into a supervisor in a bad mood, your wages might get deducted.

”Mom, my phone fell into the water, and the camera broke.” He Jun explained with a smile, fearing her appearance was too terrifying for her mother to see.

”Mom, did you work overtime again yesterday?”

Her mother’s thin figure and exhausted look made He Jun’s nose tingle: ”I asked you and dad not to work overtime; your bodies can’t handle it. What would happen if you collapse, what about little brother?”

Mom He smiled indifferently: ”Your brother is in the hospital and looked after, we haven’t been working overtime, it’s only occasional, your dad and I are just in our forties, we have colleagues in their fifties and sixties still working, and the job isn’t tiring.”

”You always say that.”

He Jun said with concern.

No job is easy if there’s no rest, and working sixteen hours a day will break anyone down. Moreover, her mother is responsible for cleaning, and her father installs equipment, hardly untiring jobs.

At this moment, He Jun deeply hated her own incompetence, hating the choices she made in the past.

Her talent as a Soul Cultivator was excellent; on Awakening Day, she could have refined a Ninth Grade Demon Spirit, she was confident she could do it.

Even an Earth Chart Demon Spirit was not impossible.

But in the end, she didn’t know why she acted foolishly and refined a Wasted Demon Spirit!

She originally thought it was an undiscovered, extraordinarily powerful Demon Spirit, and with its help, she was specially recruited by Demon Star University, becoming the pride of her family and relatives.

She thought she could change her family’s fate, but little did she expect that this Demon Spirit was a fraud; despite its special talent skills, its strength was exceptionally weak and demanded a high amount of Soul Power.

Even with her Soul Power, she couldn’t support it; since refining this Demon Spirit over three years ago, it has only grown one Grade, unable to absorb any Soul Skill.

She wanted more than once to expel this Demon Spirit and replace it with a new one, but each attempt ended in failure.

She didn’t even have the ability to give up.

And her Soul Power was insufficient to refine a second Demon Spirit.

The genius had fallen to the bottom.

He Jun often blamed herself; in her view, it was because of her that her injured brother had no chance to stand again, and that her aging parents had to work overtime.

”Xiaojun, just take care of yourself; there’s no need to worry about mom, dad, and your brother.”

As she said this, Mom He looked around, her voice slightly urgent: ”Xiaojun, if you’re fine, I’ll hang up; it’d be bad if the supervisor sees.”

Seeing her mother so hurried, He Jun’s heart pained slightly. A tiny supervisor frightened her mother that much.

If she couldn’t protect her family, what was the purpose of growing up?

He Jun tightly clutched the crystal bottle in her right hand and said happily: ”Mom, recently I completed a task with my teammates and made some money. Later I’ll transfer 1.2 million to your account, and you can pay the hospital fees for brother, then hire a nurse, so brother can be more comfortable, and you don’t have to work overtime anymore, I can earn money now.”

”That much money?”

Mom He showed no joy, her face changed, and her voice even rose to ask: ”What task did you do? How did you get so much money?”

Previously, He Jun sent at most 20,000, and 1.2 million startled Mom He as a staggering amount.

Though this money might not make her son stand again, it could at least cover a few years of medical costs, and without treatment, it could allow the family to live decently in the Satellite City.

”Xiaojun, did you take on any dangerous task? Don’t do anything foolish for your brother; if anything happens to you, it would be better to let your brother abandon treatment—though he can’t stand, at least he can live, you...”

By the end, Mom He was already crying.

”Mom, we absolutely can’t give up on treatment. If we do, all previous efforts will be in vain.”

”Don’t let brother have such thoughts, his dream since childhood was to be a strong Martial Artist.”

He Jun adjusted her emotions, confidently said: ”Besides, it’s not a dangerous task; this one million is a lot for you, but for some of my classmates, it’s only the cost of a meal. This time, I got 1.5 million; I’ll keep 300,000 to buy some Pills, don’t worry, your daughter is a specially recruited student.”

”You mustn’t have any accidents; or else, what will your dad and I do? Your brother would blame us...”

Mom He said, crying, but then seemed to see something, an expression of fear as she quickly put the phone away, the screen went dark, and a man’s angry voice followed: ”Answering a call during work, do you want to continue working or not?”

”You’re docked half a day’s wages as a warning.”

”What’s wrong? Dissatisfied? Don’t think you’re all that just because your daughter is at Demon Star University and specially recruited? If she’s so capable, why are you still working here?”

”What a joke, I even doubt if it’s true.”

”Quit talking rubbish, or you’re fired.”

”Leave with your husband; this factory lacks everything but people.”

The scolding continued with her mother’s weak defense and pleading, while He Jun sat on the stone bench, head down, body slightly trembling. She didn’t hang up, silently listening until the noise faded, then disconnected the call.

”Crying?”

Suddenly, a strange yet familiar voice came, and He Jun’s body shuddered as she jerked her head up, eyes swollen with tears, at a person she never expected to see standing before her, smiling and asking: ”Do you want to change your fate?”

”Thanks to reader 20170814124652478 for the gift of ten thousand coins. There have been other readers gifting before, I’ve noticed, subscriptions alone are support enough. This update and the gift embarrass me a little, thank you for the support. Previously, the first Alliance Leader Red Snow Fragment’s promise of additional Chapters hasn’t been fulfilled yet. It’s been a while, it’s not forgotten, accumulating days could add more, it’s just that I feel additional Chapters are too fake if daily updates aren’t ensured. Life is relentless; I can’t stop my steps. When I stabilize updates, that’s when extra Chapters matter. Thank you all, no gifting needed. Come by when you’re bored.”
