Chapter 1389: Chapter 1348: Ambushed Along the Way

In no time, several months had passed, and Chen Fei left the Enlightened Deity Mansion with Wou Manhe, heading toward the Big Dipper Star Sect.

The Big Dipper Star Sect was on the verge of hosting a new Supreme Elder tenure, occurring every few years or every decade.

According to Zhen Jingkong, he was invited this time to be a distinguished guest, helping Zhen Jingkong successfully secure the position of the tenth elder in the new Supreme Elder of Big Dipper Star Sect.

The Big Dipper Star Sect traditionally had only ten Supreme Elder seats, generally, as long as a person was alive, they could continue to hold these positions until someone reached the Fourth Layer of Great Formation Master to challenge them.

That would be the time for them to retire gracefully.

If such a disruption didn’t occur, then it would only be upon their natural demise… like now.

One of the ten Supreme Elders of the Big Dipper Star Sect, the Sixth Elder, had exhausted his lifespan and passed away, leaving one of the Supreme Elder positions vacant.

In this situation, someone like Zhen Jingkong, a Third Layer Great Formation Master, thus had an opportunity.

In Big Dipper Star Sect, those who reached the Fourth Layer of Great Formation Master could unconditionally become Supreme Elders, often holding high ranks. For a Third Layer Great Formation Master, it’s not that straightforward; they need luck — someone dying to vacate a position and go through competition and trials before becoming one of the Supreme Elders.

Therefore, it seems that being a Supreme Elder of the Big Dipper Star Sect is genuinely prestigious.

…

At this time, in the sky not far from the Big Dipper Star Sect, two silhouettes were speeding along rapidly.

These two silhouettes were none other than Chen Fei and Wou Manhe. They flickered under the bright moonlit sky, heading towards the ancient city where the Big Dipper Star Sect was situated — Changfeng City.

As one of the formidable personalities renowned in Qiannan Ancient Kingdom, Wou Manhe was naturally familiar with the Mountain Gate Residence of the Big Dipper Star Sect, Changfeng City.

Changfeng City is one of the ten ancient cities in the later half of the Inner Region, with a population of billions, ranking in the top three and teeming with geniuses and countless powerful figures.

“Young master, ahead lies Changfeng City… Hmm? Someone?” As they dashed forward, Wou Manhe was just about to tell Chen Fei that they were nearing Changfeng City when he slightly furrowed his brows on the next moment.

He sensed what seemed to be an arrogant energy flowing ahead, spreading in all directions, overly bold without any intent to keep low-profile or restraint.

Chen Fei evidently felt the presence of that energy too, slightly squinting, then seeing several figures boastfully with hands behind their back high in the sky ahead, as if waiting for them.

“Young master, do you know them?” Wou Manhe asked.

“Nope,” Chen Fei shook his head.

“Should I then?” Wou Manhe’s eyes reflected a faint cold glint as he gestured as though to slit a throat. The most powerful of these guys were only at the Peak of Great Heaven Rank, yet they were so insolent, which he found somewhat displeasing.

“Forget it. We’re here as guests.” Chen Fei indifferently shook his head. If elsewhere and these people provoked them, he might consider handling them.

But since they were here to help Zhen Jingkong, it’d be better to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Wou Manhe nodded, calming his demeanor.

The duo, as if not seeing those extremely arrogant figures, ignored them and continued towards Changfeng.

Though they wished to avoid trouble, trouble seemed determined to find them.

“Two more have arrived. I wonder who invited these helpers?” Among the people, the one in the center who exuded the most arrogance, arms crossed, shot a frosty look at Chen Fei and Wou Manhe.

The tone, that disdainful look, and the cold grin with slightly curled lips all seemed to make Chen Fei and Wou Manhe appear as prey.

“Lord Daokun, with these two added, our task is basically complete. Rest assured, this time our Senior Brother Changhong will certainly ascend to the position of Supreme Elder, and what we’ve promised you will be fulfilled!”

Beside him, another dignified middle-aged man spoke with a flattering smile. While speaking, a sinister expression flashed across his face.

Zhen Jingkong, Luo Qiangming, the helpers you invited will either be wounded and driven away by our Lord Daokun or switch support midway to join us; I want to see how you’ll compete for the Supreme Elder position against Senior Brother Changhong without their backing? Haha, hahaha…

“Gu Changhong? He doesn’t have the qualification to make me, Li Daokun, play the henchman here.”

But upon hearing this, Li Daokun merely sneered and said coldly, “I’m only here for Elder Feng Wujing’s sake. Alright, stop them now. The old rules, if they don’t know what’s good for them, don’t blame me, Li Daokun, for making a move without holding back.”

Though he was only at the Peak of Great Heaven Rank and Invincible cultivation level, his actual combat power exceeded ordinary Mystic Heaven Position experts, hence, someone like Gu Changhong who hadn’t secured a Supreme Elder seat in Big Dipper Star Sect indeed didn’t deserve his respect.

He did this not out of favor to Gu Changhong but in regard to Big Dipper Star Sect Feng Wujing’s face.

“Yes, yes, yes, I understand, I understand.”

That dignified person responded obsequiously and led people arrogantly towards Chen Fei and Wou Manhe with a domineering shout: “Halt.”

Chen Fei and Wou Manhe stopped, expressionless.

With their strength, they naturally heard the conversation between the two men.

“You two must be helpers invited by either Luo Qiangming or Zhen Jingkong, right? Allow me to introduce myself, I am Li Daokun of Demon Territory Mountain, perhaps one of you knows my name?”

Seeing Chen Fei and Wou Manhe pause silently, Li Daokun assumed they were scared, smirked contemptuously, and walked forward with cold pride.

“Li Daokun? Who’s that, never heard of him.” Chen Fei said flatly.

“Insolent!”

That dignified middle-aged man immediately roared furiously, looking coldly at Chen Fei, he questioned: “Do you know to whom you are speaking? Do you want to die?!”

“Never mind.” Li Daokun waved his hand, calmly watching Chen Fei, though a faint coldness flickered in his eyes.

“Never heard? So it seems neither of you are particularly capable. Fine, let’s be direct, I don’t care what reason brought you two here today; what’s before you are two choices: One, you go back from where you came, and I, Li Daokun, can pretend I didn’t see you, ensuring everyone’s peace.”

Speaking this far, he paused slightly, then continued: “Two, soon under Elder Feng Wujing, Gu Changhong should ascend to the Supreme Elder seat of Big Dipper Star Sect; do either of you wish to join me in congratulating him?”

Li Daokun coldly watched Chen Fei and Wou Manhe, full of intimidation.
