”Jing Yi, the Jiang Chen we met yesterday, he’s a complete and utter scammer!” Lin Wan said with an angry look, pulling out a file of documents she had already prepared.

These documents were precisely the background information on Jiang Chen that she had commissioned someone to investigate.

”Look, not only is this guy Jiang Chen a scammer and a fraudster, but he also sponges off women. I think his scamming is just to garner your sympathy and get close to you. Such a scheming person, you must be on your guard, Jing Yi!” Lin Wan warned with earnest concern in her voice.

Ye Jingyi couldn’t help but pick up the file and started to read through Jiang Chen’s information.

However, her view was somewhat different from Lin Wan’s by the end.

”Wan Wan, I appreciate your concern. But just look at Jiang Chen’s background information. His situation is terrible, his mother is seriously ill, his family is destitute, and he’s taken out high-interest loans. It’s so pitiful.” Ye Jingyi’s eyes revealed a look of sympathy.

Hearing this, Lin Wan was infuriated by her best friend’s response.

”Jing Yi, how can you still speak for him? Didn’t he say yesterday that he’s proficient in medicine? Then why can’t he cure his own mother’s illness?”

Lin Wan chided with frustration: ”Honestly, it’s good that you have a kind heart, Jing Yi, but in such a cutthroat, dog-eat-dog society, your kindness could hurt you! In the end, you might end up getting scammed and even help the scammer count their money.”

Ye Jingyi, however, merely smiled: ”Yes, I also don’t think that Jiang Chen is the ’Divine Doctor’, but he did save that patient without asking for any money. What is he after? That’s why I say, while people have their bad sides, they naturally have their good sides too.”

In that instant, Lin Wan found herself at a loss for words.

Alas, her best friend was excellent in every way, just too kind-hearted.

It was at this moment that Ye Jingyi’s phone rang.

”It’s a call from the loan department manager at Wanguo Bank, I’ll take this call.”

Ye Jingyi’s expression tensed, and with that, she answered the call.

Yet, the call didn’t last long and she hung up with her beautiful brows deeply furrowed.

”Jing Yi, what happened?” Lin Wan promptly asked, expressing her concern.

”Just a small matter, I can handle it.” Ye Jingyi forced a smile.

Having said that, she exchanged a few more pleasantries with Lin Wan before hastily leaving the office and driving off towards the Jinhai West branch of Wanguo Bank.

”Ah!” Lin Wan sighed softly. Although Ye Jingyi didn’t specify, she could guess the nature of the troubling issue Jing Yi was facing.

It must still be about Liying Cosmetics’ financial problems.

Jing Yi is just too proud. Can’t she just swallow her pride and ask the family for help?

Why must she push herself into such a desperate corner?

With a silent sigh in her heart, Lin Wan knew that if Ye Jingyi weren’t so resolute, she wouldn’t be Ye Jingyi.

”No, I must help Jing Yi.”

After pondering for a moment, Lin Wan picked up her phone and dialed a number.

...

Meanwhile, Jiang Chen, whom Lin Wan had labeled a scammer, was at Wanguo Bank with a check for two million in his hand.

This check was what he had obtained from the high-interest loan shark known as Fourth Brother the day before.

And this two million was the startup capital he needed to make a quick large sum of money, so he had come to the bank early that morning.

The environment of the Jinhai West branch of Wanguo Bank was spacious and bright, with several lifelike potted plants placed around the hall, and the female employees of the bank were each more beautiful than the last, even their voices sweet and pleasant to listen to.

Even though it was morning, the bank was already crowded with people everywhere.

However, the bank also had a separate VIP lounge area, which had far fewer people by comparison. Jiang Chen understood that only the bank’s VIP clients were allowed to conduct business there, while ordinary customers like him could only wait outside and queue up honestly.

Time trickled by, and finally it was Jiang Chen’s turn according to the queue number he held in his hand.

Upon reaching counter number two, ”Sir, what business would you like to conduct?” asked the reasonably attractive female clerk with a sweet smile, though the smile seemed somewhat stiff.

Even her pair of eyes sized up Jiang Chen from head to toe, a trace of disdain flashing in them.

”If you’re conducting a transaction of under five thousand yuan, you can go to the self-service machine over there to handle it, thank you.” At the same time, the female clerk tried to send Jiang Chen away with her sweet voice.

She simply looked down upon Jiang Chen. For he was still a poor young man on the brink of poverty yesterday, and he hadn’t even bought new clothes before coming today. His clothes were indeed very worn, almost to the point of needing patches. How could she not disdain such an appearance?

Although the female clerk did a good job of hiding her disdain, Jiang Chen caught it.

Jiang Chen didn’t mind though. his attire indeed looked rather plain, he understood the principle that people are judged by their clothes and horses by their saddles.

”I’m here to deposit money, not a transaction of under five thousand yuan,” Jiang Chen said unhurriedly.

At his words, the female clerk Zhao Lele could barely hold back a burst of laughter. He was really pretending to be something he’s not.

”Oh, may I ask how much money you plan to deposit?” Before the public eye, Zhao Lele couldn’t exhibit too much of an overreaction, so she continued, laboring to patiently ask, albeit slowly.

However, she could not hide the contempt in her eyes.

Jiang Chen shook his head silently, unwilling to stoop to the level of this bank clerk who judged people by their appearance, and straight away presented the cheque he had prepared earlier.

”A cheque?” Zhao Lele was taken aback, and when she took it and saw it, her eyes opened wide in shock.

Two, two million?!

Jiang Chen didn’t look wealthy at all, yet he casually took out a cheque for two million, which was completely unexpected to her.

Afterward, Zhao Lele meticulously examined the cheque, her final confirmation. The cheque was genuine, with no issues whatsoever.

It was genuinely two million.

Suddenly, Zhao Lele’s gaze towards Jiang Chen changed.

Could this man before her be one of those hidden rich, the type who pretends to be a pig to eat tigers, a diamond bachelor?

Thinking this, Zhao Lele’s heart thumped excitedly, feeling a flutter.

”Sir, if you deposit this money in our Wanguo Bank, you can become a VIP customer. I can take you to our VIP lounge to issue a personalized platinum card and enjoy the premium services of our Wanguo Bank...”

Zhao Lele said with a beaming smile, her smile exceptionally radiant now.

This time, her smile was genuine.

In her eyes, Jiang Chen was a hidden millionaire, and so young at that. If she could climb this social ladder, her future would surely be one of effortless opulence.

In a moment, Zhao Lele’s look toward Jiang Chen became enticingly soft, ready to throw herself at him with a mere gesture from him.

The drastic change in Zhao Lele’s attitude only elicited a look of disdain from Jiang Chen. No matter how attractive, he had no interest in a woman who judged a man solely on appearance.

Nevertheless, the platinum card that came with VIP status was something he did want.

Thus, he let her lead him to the VIP lounge, where he completed the bank card process and then walked away without giving any more attention to the lovestruck woman.

However, as he was leaving and passed by the VIP manager’s office, he suddenly froze, stopping in his tracks.

He had heard Ye Jingyi’s pleasant and melodious voice coming from the manager’s office.

Why was Ye Jingyi here? Was she at Wanguo Bank to conduct some business?

Curiosity prompted him to listen quietly for a while longer.
