Lord Shadow

Chapter 1929: Light and Darkness

Loving someone and being loved back, that kind of feeling, is a kind of euphoria that is hard to describe.

One moment of happiness that could light a thousand darkness in one heart. True, sincere, love

Not many people got that.

And Azief got that. The world had to end before he finally found someone that could love him.

That kind of feeling...It is not that easy to forget such feelings. It was not that Sofia was so special in the world that she eclipsed everyone else

She is special because he felt that she was special. And because of that, she is the most special person in the world

Because she is a person he used to love. And regardless of what happened between them, that love is still there

Just because he and her are no longer together did not mean that feeling instantly gone away.

Some people could do that when they are already tired and reached rock bottom. That just dealing with the other person is tired enough

But the way he and Sofia ended things, there is many feelings...still there. They never reached rock bottom.

And so, there is still that feeling Even if he reached the point where he hates her, Azief believe even in that hatred, there would still be love.

Because, only those who have fallen in love could understand it.

And everyone in love would testify to this.

When you are in love, the one you are in love with would be the most special thing in the world.

Because you would see things others could not and you begin asking why the world could not see the same thing you see

Love is a drug.

Love is madness.

That what they said. But love.....love also made you see beauty that you have never noticed before.

Things other take for granted. When you are in love, everything that is good become magnified.

It does not mean that those who fall in love are good person, it is just the things you love the most about someone become even more magnified under your eyes.

And if everyone could love and see each other the way they see the people they love one would wonder, whether all ugliness in the world would just disappear

Because when you are in love, all the good things are magnified. And you seek to understand. Understand the person you fall in love with.

Learn their stories, their happiness, their sadness and then their happiness, their sadness, their joy, their tragedy become your happiness, become your sadness, your joy, your tragedy.

And so, it is said the pain that the people you love become your pain, the smile of your loved ones become your strength

Hence, the way of happiness is to love others. Not to seek desires. The ancient sages, the wise teachers of the past all understand this.

Hence, they seek things beyond desires. Desires is fantasies. And most fantasies are unrealistic

The reason why it has to be unrealistic is because the moment that you get what you seek, you don’t, you can’t want it anymore.

Desire , then, must have its object perpetually absent

It’s not the ”it” that you want, it’s the fantasy of ”it”

Pascal once said, that we are only truly happy when daydreaming about future happiness.

Or why we say, be careful what you wish for

Not because you’ll get it but because the moment you get it, you’re doomed not to want it

Living by your wants is not a recipe for happiness.

What it means to be human is to strive to live by ideas and ideals and not to measure your life by what you’ve attained in terms of your desires but those small moments of integrity, compassion, rationality and even self-sacrifice.

Because the only way that we can measure the significance of our own lives is by valuing the lives of others

Azief saw this in all of those vision.

Great men who transcend simple desire, that could sacrifice all the things that they had to fight for an ideal, to fight even if it’s just to keep the spark of hope alive

Whether people remember them or not, it does not matter.

The heart and mind is free, and when death came to them, they could just laugh it off

Then their death means something.

And what they leave behind them is immortal.

Even if the world turns to dust someday, even if their songs are no longer heard by the mortal ears, even if the thought that they fought for is swallowed by the darkness of the nothingness of the vast universe, such thought, supported by the soul, it leaves a trace.

A magic that could not be seen, could not be touched, could not be heard but....it could be felt

Earth is full of these people.

Azief saw them as he saw the rises and falls of dynasties and empires.

In the past, he would think the emperors, the kings, the Queens that made it colourful.

But when you see things from a different dimension, see how the cog turns and grease the wheels, it is the common people, the people that are not recorded, the ones who did not leave their names in history that made the world spins and thrive

A king, an emperor, a queen, an empress, a prince, all of them are one person.

It is arrogant to attribute the shining achievement of humanity to select few.

However, Azief understood why it became like that

It is just a pity that the papers in the world would never fit to write all of the names of all of these people that contributes to the world, seen and unseen, felt and unfelt contribution.

These kind of people, that have light, that dares to fight and dares to retreat, are always hated by the powers that be

Unrestrained freedom without limit and boundaries is as harmful as a prison like live. The other destroy the soul by being possessed by desire, the other destroy people soul by restricting the good it could do

There is people fighting and rising, falling and forgotten.

The people living in those times could not see the way Azief see history.

They live in a pocket of time, restricted by their own times, their own circumstances, their own class, their own greed, and their own vices and virtues

Revolutionaries, whether it be the one who fights, or the one who cautions restrain when desire and want become the number one pursuit, both of them are wise people

Some try to win by peace, some tries to win by force.

Some tries to touch the kindness of human hearts; some try to break the evil forces of the world with the forces of good

Whether their method succeed or not, whether they were laughed at or forgotten, it leaves a trace.

And because Azief sees it from above, he sees how sometimes, these old forgotten ideas could always revive back like a fire that could never go out

And these people, these people that always wanted to change the world, mostly are common men, suffering men, people with compassion, people with a heart and soul that are incompatible with the world full of great hatred and oppression

The only beacon of light in a world filled with the darkness of the human heart

In times of great cruelty and hatred, these people, common people, who have light in their heart could only die to protect their own soul

When all around them are people who uses hatred and force to bring darkness, these people even with their weak bodies, would rather die than betray their own conscience.

And the one infected with hatred laugh at these people.

When the world is full of people with hate, then compassion become a sore sight

And now, he look at himself in the past. Look at his own desire and how he changes along the years

”And she was there with me” he thought to himself.

The years goes by and she was with him. There is a bitter smile that sometimes form when he look at himself in the past

It is bitter.

But it is also sweet.

There are joy and sadness, there is time when all he could see was darkness and there is also time when there is light that dispel away the darkness

He never notice and stop and appreciate this.

His life was not perfect.

It was not always happy.

And there is some heavy burdens on his shoulders

He knew this very well

But he at least have a bit of both.

The sweet, the sour, the salty, the joy and sadness of life.

He experience love, and he have affections

He changed not because he is convinced by the words of sages in the past, because when you reach his realm, you could see more things and seeing more things made you understand, how connected everyone really is and why life is sacred
