Chapter 1022: Chapter 379: Old Devil Qiu Has Arrived

Illusion Array.

…Looking at it this way, being a disciple of the Yin Ghost Sect seems quite advantageous, with all techniques at one’s disposal.

The only pity is that this ghost mist suppresses divine sense, making it hard to distinguish friend from foe.

“If the Yin Ghost Sect disciples follow these rules, what about the Loose Cultivators?”

Ji Yuan hesitated briefly, then removed the Yin Ghost Sect disciple robe from his body, reverting to his original appearance.

At this moment, a voice echoed again above his sea of consciousness.

“In the Hundred Ghosts Mist Forest, thousands of ghosts pass through. Here, you can kill spirits, destroy the Illusion Array’s Array Flags, and kill Yin Ghost Sect disciples to gain merit points. If you pass the first trial, you can earn a substantial amount of merit points to exchange for cultivation resources.”

So this is the rule for Loose Cultivators?

Killing spirits, breaking Illusion Arrays, and killing Yin Ghost Sect disciples all earn merit points.

Clearing the Hundred Ghosts Mist Forest grants even more merit points.

Although he didn’t know how this compared to the merit points gained by Yin Ghost Sect disciples killing Loose Cultivators, judging by the Ghost Envoy’s description… it indeed seemed more beneficial to choose to be a Loose Cultivator.

The Black and White Divine Hall wasn’t lying about that.

But what’s the purpose of the Yin Ghost Sect doing this?

It’s one thing to have Yin Ghost Sect disciples kill Loose Cultivators, as it’s all for the sect.

But now they even want Loose Cultivators to kill Yin Ghost Sect disciples, almost as if they are provoking a confrontation.

It’s as though they really want to see the two factions fight each other?

While Ji Yuan was pondering, he suddenly detected within his divine sense’s range the presence of a… wandering soul?

Its entire body resembled a green flame, with the upper half still showing a humanoid shape, but the lower half empty and void.

It looked like it wore a large cloak that barely reached the knees, turning to nothingness below that.

The wandering soul drifted aimlessly through the mist forest, and before long, sensing Ji Yuan’s aura, it flew straight towards him.

“The aura of someone at Early-stage Core Formation…”

Behind Ji Yuan, three Flying Swords turned slightly, their tips immediately pointing toward the direction from which the spirit came.

Ji Yuan initially planned to suppress it in one fell swoop, but then he changed his mind.

Perhaps it would be better to see what exactly is going on before making any rash decisions.

The distance of over a dozen miles was covered in a breath by the spirit.

Watching it pass through the mist, entering his field of vision, Ji Yuan’s heart thought moved, and he immediately donned the Yin Ghost Sect’s Deacon Robe.

The spirit, which was about to launch itself forward, suddenly came to a halt, freezing in place.

After a brief moment of confusion, it resumed its aimless wandering.

…So, this thing really only attacks Loose Cultivators?

The Ghost Envoy also mentioned that Yin Ghost Sect disciples could control these spirits, but how exactly does one wield such control?

As Ji Yuan pondered this, he took out his Identity Jade from his Storage Bag.

The moment the Jade appeared in his hand, it emitted a sparkling, snow-white glow.

As if it sensed the nearby spirit.

Ji Yuan tried to infuse a thread of mana into it, and the Jade shone brightly. The spirit, previously hovering around him, was instantly absorbed into the Jade.

Consequently, Ji Yuan learned the spirit’s situation.

Early-stage Core Formation, with two main attack methods: one, creating illusions to confuse Loose Cultivators, and the other… possession!

Once possessed, the cultivator would lose consciousness and attack anyone indiscriminately, while the spirit would seize the opportunity to devour the cultivator’s divine soul until it killed them.

The spirit, by devouring cultivators’ divine souls, could also strengthen itself.

However, an Early-stage Core Formation spirit… wasn’t of much use, so Ji Yuan released it from the Jade.

The spirit obediently floated around Ji Yuan, and at this point, Ji Yuan, still cloaked in the Yin Ghost Sect Deacon Robe, suddenly shed his disguise.

The spirit was startled, then immediately reacted and was about to strike.

But Ji Yuan was quicker, using the three Flying Swords to pierce through the spirit’s body.

With just a single Purple Sky Divine Thunder, the spirit’s body was blasted into oblivion.

“Huh?”

Ji Yuan took out the Jade again, infusing mana into it, and saw the text on it flicker.

[Silver Thirteen: Two]

So, an Early-stage Core Formation spirit is worth only two merit points?

That’s damn hard to earn.

Who knows if killing other Yin Ghost Sect cultivators would accumulate merit points faster?

But that’s not guaranteed… the safest way is to use the Yin Ghost Sect identity to approach spirits, then suddenly shed the disguise and strike when least expected!

This method is reliable and allows for quick accumulation of merit points.

“If I really did this and got discovered by the Ghost Envoy… it might end up striking me down.”

While Ji Yuan was contemplating, he noticed within his divine sense’s range the appearance of a… person.

Without the Yin Ghost Sect robe, that must be a Loose Cultivator.

But just as Ji Yuan thought so, he watched as this person… donned a Yin Ghost Sect disciple robe.

Ji Yuan: “???

Damn, is this person just like me?

Lord Ghost Envoy, so love disappears, does it?

Ji Yuan looked up.

“…”

At the same time.

Northwest Sand Prison, outside a deep pit, a young man in a blood-colored robe suddenly appeared on the sand as a flash of blood light passed.

“Damn it, Master, didn’t I say the Rashamon Sea is already closed, we’re too late!”

Qiu Qianhai cursed in his sea of consciousness.

“No worries, closed or not, there’s always a way,”

Nightmare True Monarch said cheerfully, seemingly unconcerned.

“What way do you have?”

Qiu Qianhai wasn’t surprised by this, as he believed his master was nearly omnipotent.

“Because your master… is already a disciple of the Yin Ghost Sect.”

“Could a disciple returning to their own sect be barred from entry?”

Qiu Qianhai grinned, saying, “In that case, let them once again taste the fear invoked by Old Demon Ji!”
