Chapter 1008: Chapter 377: Rules of the Rashamon Sea

”This information was disclosed to us Eight Holy Lands by the Black and White Divine Hall.”

The Bone Nightmare Old Demon contemplated, ”It is only known to the core cultivators within the Eight Holy Lands, which is why I’m only telling you three.”

Upon hearing this, Ji Yuan and the other two perked up their ears, even instinctively leaning in closer.

Even the seemingly oldest Yin Bone Master was no exception.

”Everyone who enters the Black and White Divine Hall gets a chance to choose their faction... Actually, only those who possess the Yin Ghost Sect Ring and Token can choose; without these two items, they are all considered Loose Cultivators.”

”And with these two items, one can choose their faction, deciding whether to join the Yin Ghost Sect or opt to be a Loose Cultivator.”

”What’s the difference between these two identities?”

The Yin Bone Master couldn’t help but ask.

”Good question.”

The Bone Nightmare Old Demon responded, continuing to explain, ”If you choose to join the Yin Ghost Sect and become a disciple, then you can achieve safety... comparatively speaking, as many places within the Rashamon Sea do not attack Yin Ghost Sect disciples but do attack Loose Cultivators. Furthermore, if you face a life-and-death crisis, such as being besieged by Loose Cultivators, Yin Ghost Sect disciples can mobilize a trace of Array Power for a counterattack.”

”In that case, shouldn’t one definitely choose the Yin Ghost Sect? Being a Loose Cultivator seems only to invite trouble.”

Ma Gui spoke in confusion.

”If that were truly the case, your master would have long sent you to collect the Yin Ghost Sect Ring and Token.”

The Fire Spirit Ghost Mother sitting beside them sneered.

Ma Gui awkwardly chuckled and lowered his head in embarrassment.

”Becoming a Yin Ghost Sect disciple is not entirely a good thing.” The Bone Nightmare Old Demon shook his head, ”Firstly, if a Loose Cultivator is strong enough, they can move from the Outer Realm to the Inner Realm, even to the core area, but choosing to join the Yin Ghost Sect means you’ll have to rely on your Token. If you have just one Token, even with Nascent Soul Stage strength, you can only wander in the Outer Realm.”

”Secondly, the rewards for Yin Ghost Sect disciples are scant; to get truly good items, you have to choose to be a Loose Cultivator.”

”Thirdly, the Black and White Divine Hall has already informed us Eight Holy Lands that everyone entering the hall this time will choose the Yin Ghost Sect side, so they suggest we all choose to be Loose Cultivators.”

Saying this, the Bone Nightmare Old Demon’s eyes narrowed slightly, filled with sinister intent.

”Oh? Does the Black and White Divine Hall want to have a battle with our Eight Holy Lands first? The Rashamon Sea is chosen as the battlefield.”

Ma Gui, knowing the most, quickly reacted to the intent of the Black and White Divine Hall.

The Bone Nightmare Old Demon nodded slightly upon hearing this, evidently sharing the same perspective.

”This time, our Eight Holy Lands can indeed weigh the measure of the Black and White Divine Hall.” The Yin Bone Master said slowly.

”Do you have anything else to ask?”

The Bone Nightmare Old Demon suddenly turned to look at Ji Yuan, who had been furrowing his brows.

The others also looked over; Ji Yuan quickly rose, cupped his hands, and under the Bone Nightmare Old Demon’s gesture, sat back down before asking aloud, ”Since the Rashamon Sea is the Holy Land of the Yin Ghost Sect, why is it that being a Loose Cultivator can gain more good items?”

”Shouldn’t the good items be given priority to their own disciples?”

Ji Yuan voiced his inner confusion.

”I am also curious about this point.”

The Yin Bone Master added.

”I’ve considered this question and asked other Holy Lands too.” The Bone Nightmare Old Demon furrowed his brows, then explained in an uncertain tone:

”The Black and White Divine Hall hasn’t provided an answer, and I suspect they don’t have a definite one, but as we see it among several Holy Lands, the reason may be...”

The Bone Nightmare Old Demon pointed at the circle before him and said in a deep voice:

”Back when the Yin Ghost Sect unified the world, the disciples within and Loose Cultivators to them had little difference.”

”Moreover, this Rashamon Sea was probably just a place for them to cultivate Loose Cultivators, while cultivating disciples was elsewhere. This Rashamon Sea was their promotion channel for Loose Cultivators, also serving to put pressure on Yin Ghost Sect disciples so they could have opponents.”

... This explanation seems quite reasonable.

Ji Yuan thought so, as nothing else could explain it logically.

”So, according to Master, we’re all choosing the Loose Cultivator side, right?” Ma Gui said.

”Yes.”

The Bone Nightmare Old Demon said, rising with hands behind his back, pacing the courtyard while speaking: ”Since the Black and White Divine Hall has set this game, if we don’t respond, it’ll show we’re fearful.”

”Moreover, even if you choose the Yin Ghost Sect side, you won’t get anything good, safety...”

The Bone Nightmare Old Demon scoffed as he said, ”If you want safety, don’t venture into the Rashamon Sea, or just become a mortal. A mortal’s lifespan is only decades, which is indeed quite safe.”

”That’s true, hehehehe.”

Ma Gui laughed.

The Yin Bone Master followed with a laugh, ”I was even thinking of using this opportunity to see if I could form a Nascent Soul.”

Everyone laughed. Ji Yuan felt that not laughing would make him seem out of place, so he joined in with a ”heh heh heh” laugh.

His laughter caused the others to involuntarily look at him.

The Yin Bone Master couldn’t help but say, ”Elder Hu’s laughter... is rather sinister.”

”This fellow has quite a ghostly trait.”

The Bone Nightmare Old Demon jokingly reprimanded, then continued, ”I speculate those who choose the Yin Ghost Sect will block us Loose Cultivators in the Inner and Outer Domains; they serve as the defenders while we are the attackers. What happens then... we will know once inside.
