Chapter 1396: Chapter 1396: The Gate General’s Powerful Consort (Part 6)

Noble Consort Xuan, the concubine the Regent Prince arranged for the Young Emperor.

Although she is called a concubine, she’s really just taking care of the Young Emperor’s daily life and playing with him.

At the moment, Noble Consort Xuan can’t do much else.

Noble Consort Xuan comes from a good background, otherwise, the Regent Prince couldn’t have made her a Noble Consort upon entering the palace.

The Young Emperor calmed down after hearing that Noble Consort Xuan had called for him.

”I ask you, why hasn’t ice been sent to cool my mother’s palace?”

The Junior Supervisor inwardly groaned.

Why did Eunuch Chang have to go to Noble Consort Xuan at this moment?

The Junior Supervisor braced himself and replied, ”Your Majesty, Noble Consort Xuan... said it was hot over there, so the ice destined for Calm Palace was... sent there.”

Each palace had its quota.

There were extra ice basins available, but Noble Consort Xuan felt hot.

Every palace needed some, and even the reserves weren’t enough.

Originally intended for Calm Palace, the ice was intercepted by Noble Consort Xuan on the way.

Lately, the Young Emperor hadn’t been visiting Calm Palace, but instead went to Noble Consort Xuan’s place every day.

The Empress Dowager held no real power, and the people below were quick to curry favor, so naturally they wanted to please Noble Consort Xuan, which buried this matter. They intended to make new ones before sending them over.

Who would’ve thought, before they were sent, the Young Emperor inquired first.

The Young Emperor was embarrassed on finding this out, and could only scold the Junior Supervisor below: ”How could you just let her take them?”

And they didn’t even rush to send new ones!!

The Junior Supervisor, fearful, said, ”Your Majesty, it was Noble Consort Xuan who insisted... and sent someone directly to fetch them.”

The Young Emperor: ”...”

No matter what kind of existence Noble Consort Xuan was, she was now the Emperor’s woman, his only concubine.

The Emperor was so kind to her, how could they dare to interfere?

The Young Emperor carefully glanced at Chuzheng: ”Mother, Sister Xuan...”

Eunuch Yang De coughed.

The Young Emperor pursed his lips and corrected himself, ”Mother, don’t be angry, I’ll have someone bring over the ones from my palace.”

He cautiously peeked at Chuzheng.

His mother didn’t seem to like Noble Consort Xuan very much...

Every time they clashed, the usually gentle mother would become quite strange.

And they would always part on bad terms.

Chuzheng showed no signs of life on her face, and her tone was indifferent and casual: ”Emperor, you need to understand one thing.”

The Young Emperor wasn’t fond of lectures.

Ever since he ascended the throne, people around him were always lecturing him.

But he didn’t want to listen.

No one asked if he wanted to be in this position.

The Young Emperor wiggled his seat, without rebellion: ”Mother, what is it?”

”What’s not hers can’t be taken.” Chuzheng’s tone was calm: ”You are the Emperor, everything in the palace is yours, but not hers.”

”But Noble Consort Xuan manages the harem...”

Chuzheng cast him a casual glance.

The Young Emperor unreasonably dared not continue.

Chuzheng resumed, ”Then she shouldn’t abuse power for personal gain and only care about herself. Managing the harem requires consideration for the entire harem, and she dares not send it here, not even understanding respect or hierarchy. Do you think she can run the harem for you?”

The Young Emperor: ”...”

Yang De looked somewhat surprised at Chuzheng.

The young lady reclined in the chair, her exquisitely luxurious palace attire accentuating her delicate and beautiful appearance, with innate nobility in her every gesture.

It was no longer the elegance from noble houses.

But a kind of regal dignity overlooking the world.

In this case, there’s no need for an argument, the Empress Dowager won handily!

Yang De looked at the Young Emperor, who was indeed unable to retort.

Hierarchy and respect, these are basic etiquettes.

The woman before him, even if the same age as Noble Consort Xuan, was the Empress Dowager, an elder.

”Mother, I understand. I’ll have Noble Consort Xuan come and apologize to you.”

The Young Emperor paused, then turned to instruct, ”Have someone go to Noble Consort Xuan’s place and bring back the ice basins belonging to the Calm Palace.”

Eunuch Yang De immediately sent someone to take care of it.

The Young Emperor: ”Mother, will that be alright with you?”

Chuzheng nodded indifferently, showing no intention to pursue further: ”Prepare a meal.”

The Young Emperor considered explaining a couple of words for Noble Consort Xuan, but Chuzheng wasn’t inclined to listen.

This made the Young Emperor hold back his words.

Eunuch Yang De thought the Empress Dowager would seize the opportunity to discipline Noble Consort Xuan and then quarrel with His Majesty, but unexpectedly, she had no such intention.

Not only has her air changed, but her whole being as well.

Eunuch Yang De signaled to the kneeling Junior Supervisor to leave, and he also went out to prepare a meal.

The Young Emperor glanced at Chuzheng, who picked up a fan and casually flipped through a book.

The Young Emperor sat for a while, then brought over memorials to read beside her.

”Mother, how should I criticize this one?”

”Do it yourself.” I knew you came to find someone to criticize memorials for you!! Innocent, I won’t help you!

”I don’t understand...”

”Then learn.” A grown Emperor critiques memorials himself!

”...”

The Young Emperor sat back, pressing the pen to his forehead, looking completely despairing.

If only Sister Xuan...

The Young Emperor had just thought a few words when a hand reached out and took the memorial he was pressing.

”Mother...?”

Chuzheng casually glanced over the contents of the memorial.

It was a minister accusing another, yet it wasn’t anything major, merely a dispute because of proximity.

They were actually bringing this trivial matter before the Emperor.

”Such trivial matters, the Emperor needs to care?” Chuzheng tossed the memorial back: ”Have both ministers write a self-criticism, no less than two thousand words.”

”Ah...”

Is that feasible?

”If they ask why, say it’s for harming colleague relations, to encourage getting along.”

Chuzheng spouted nonsense.

”...”

The Young Emperor was taken aback.

After a long pause, he picked up his pen and wrote as Chuzheng instructed.

Chuzheng browsed through a few memorials and found they were all trivial matters.

Dignified national matters reduced the Emperor to a neighborhood committee aunt, hardly a matter for such laughter to erupt.

Nonetheless, even faced with real state issues, this brat probably wouldn’t know how to handle them.

These memorials all likely handpicked by the Regent Prince.

He wanted a useless Emperor.

No need for real governance from him.

Such insidious intentions!

”Mother, this one...”

”Behead.”

”... Isn’t that too ruthless?”

”Then exile to the frontier.”

”...”

Su Xue peeked at Chuzheng and the Young Emperor.

The Young Emperor frowned and busily scribbled, while Chuzheng remained calm and pointed strategically to the side.

Su Xue hadn’t seen the two together like this in a long time.

But the conversation slightly alarmed Su Xue.

There was talk of beheading, then exile to the frontier.

What crime was committed?

Later, while tidying, Su Xue learned it was just about a dog...
