Invincible Snake Emperor

Chapter 39: Chapter 39: The Fused Evolution of the Bee and the Wasp

Wasps, also known as hornets, are social creatures like bees. They range from medium to large in size, with mostly smooth bodies marked by colorful patterns. With powerful, chewing mouthparts, they are incredibly fierce and brutal. They are part of the greater family of bees, but they fall into the predatory category.

A bee is typically one to three centimeters long, whereas a wasp is several times larger.

Bees generally don’t attack people unprovoked and are relatively docile, but wasps are a completely different story.

They are ferocious and completely unreasonable. It doesn’t matter if you provoke them or not; they will attack you. Your only hope is to stay out of their sight. Of course, if one ignores you, you should count yourself lucky.

However, wasps can be considered beneficial insects, as they prey on certain agricultural pests, making them a well-known natural predator.

Although people fear wasps, they are also viewed with some favor. Due to their unique anatomy, with a very thin middle section, the term ”wasp waist” is used to describe a slender figure. For instance, a woman with a sufficiently trim waist might be said to have a wasp waist.

Modern sayings like ”wasp waist and flat belly” are all compliments on a woman’s good figure.

But wasps are certainly not to be trifled with. They often sting people, and their sharp stingers carry a certain amount of toxin. Getting stung is extremely painful and can even be fatal.

Wasps eat insects, but they are particularly fond of eating bees. They frequently attack beehives, killing the bees, then carrying them off and tearing them apart to feed their developing larvae.

This is because their larvae require a large amount of protein to grow, and bees are a perfect solution.

From a distance, Tu Xiao’an watched as a large swarm of wasps slaughtered the bees that filled the sky and covered the hillside. A single bee stood no chance against a wasp; its chewing mouthparts could easily bite a bee to death. All over the slope, countless bees were trying to fend off the wasp invasion.

Often, it took dozens of bees to fight a single wasp, and even then, they were no match. This was the very definition of a natural predator.

Wasps seemed like an evolved form of bees, superior in every aspect but one: wasps couldn’t make honey.

At this moment, large numbers of bees were dying and falling down the hillside. The ground was covered in layers of their corpses.

Seeing this, Tu Xiao’an finally understood. ’No wonder the bees gave up on dealing with me, a venomous snake. Turns out the wasps showed up.’ A faint sense of being snubbed rose in his heart.

It was as if he’d been abandoned, cast aside by the bees. Not a single one was paying him any mind anymore.

’What’s the big idea? Are they looking down on me, a venomous snake? Do they think the wasps are more destructive than I am?’

Just then, Tu Xiao’an saw more wasps flying in one after another from the outskirts of the hill. One happened to pass by him, pausing in mid-air, seemingly puzzled as to why a venomous snake would be in bee territory.

In the next instant, without a second thought, the wasp shot toward Tu Xiao’an, the venomous snake, to attack.

It had to be said, wasps were truly ferocious creatures, wanting to give anything they saw a nasty surprise with their long stingers.

”You’re courting death!”

Tu Xiao’an’s eyes narrowed. The large wasp that was about to attack him instantly froze in mid-air, unable to move.

He used Conscious Insight on it.

”Ding... Wasp, Level 2. Lifespan: One to three months. Attack method: A powerful, long stinger that can cause allergic and toxic reactions in humans, potentially leading to death in severe cases. Host can obtain 10 Energy Value by killing or subjugating it.”

’A Level 2 Wasp, worth 10 Energy Value?’

Tu Xiao’an’s eyes gleamed as he stared at the immobilized wasp. It was several times larger than a bee, and its chewing mouthparts were terrifying to behold, looking as if they could grind any prey to dust.

If bees made people a little scared, then wasps inspired true fear. When a wasp stung someone, it injected Venom into the skin. This Venom could destroy red blood cells, cause hemorrhaging, and had neurotoxic effects that could damage the heart muscle and trigger allergic reactions.

Their overall appearance was just as vicious, filling anyone who saw them with dread.

But one thing had to be said: just like snakes, a wasp’s entire body was a treasure.

Its pupae were high in protein and considered a rare delicacy. The hive itself was a type of medicinal ingredient, with complex components including honey, beeswax, and propolis.

Propolis extracted with modern technology was even more precious, capable of boosting the human immune system. Wasp venom also had medicinal value.

Folk remedies spoke of infusing wasps and their hives in alcohol to treat rheumatism. Some even used live wasps to sting patients, fighting poison with poison.

It was even said that boiling a hive that had been infused in alcohol and then using the water to bathe could enhance the body’s resistance.

Su Jing stared at the large wasp for a while. ’If I made a creature like this my underling, I could scare the piss out of people just by summoning it. It’s no less dangerous than a venomous snake.’

’Consciousness envelop, pressure release... be captured!’

’This is what’s so overpowered about the system. As long as a creature’s Level is lower than mine, it can be easily enslaved.’

Before the large wasp could even understand what was happening, its body abruptly vanished and reappeared inside Tu Xiao’an’s Pet Box.

And just then, the system’s strange voice sounded.

”Ding... Host’s Pet Box now contains two types of flying insects, a bee and a wasp. The creature fusion evolution function is now available. It can be used to evolve a brand-new, monstrous type of attack insect.”

Huh?

’So this is what creature fusion evolution is all about.’

Tu Xiao’an had been too busy dealing with the bees to learn about this function before, but now he understood.

’Using a bee and a wasp to fuse and evolve a brand-new insect... how insane is that?’

’Bees can make honey, but wasps can’t. Wasps are aggressive and highly offensive. Evolving something that combines the advantages of both... it’s simply perfect!’

But this was all just in Tu Xiao’an’s imagination. What he needed now was to put it into practice.

”Does the host wish to attempt using the creature fusion evolution function?”

Tu Xiao’an’s Snake Pupils brightened. ”Yes.”

’How could I not try something this interesting? If this works, does it mean different species of venomous snakes can also be evolved together?’

”Ding... Creature fusion evolution function initiated. Materials: Ten Level 1 Bees, one Level 2 Wasp. Evolving a Rank 3 monstrous insect. This evolution requires 100 of the host’s Energy Value. Evolution beginning now. Estimated time: three minutes.”

”Wait a second!”

Hearing the last sentence, Tu Xiao’an hurriedly tried to stop it, but it was too late. The evolution had already begun.

He was frustrated. ’Why does this function have to consume my Energy Value? And it needs 100 Energy just to evolve a mere Rank 3 creature?’

’Isn’t that a bit much?’

’After all, he got 5 Energy Value for subjugating a bee and 10 for a wasp. This one fusion evolution costs 100 Energy. The math just didn’t add up.’

If the evolved Rank 3 insect turned out to be badass enough, then it would be worth it. Otherwise, Tu Xiao’an would really feel the sting of losing his Energy Value.
