I'm Trapped in the Block

Chapter 492: Chapter 489: New Job

Lord Ying’s calm and gentle voice echoed all around. Although many of the principles were still unclear, Mo Ling finally understood the source of the island’s activation—that green relic.

And now, that green relic was being controlled by the Eye of the Stars, recklessly spreading its activation.

’But what’s the purpose of all this?’

’Why would a relic with a powerful consciousness only want to spread activation contamination? What good would that do it?’

Moreover, there were many other suspicious points.

For instance, what role did this Lord Ying play on the Sky Island?

’Is it a mortal enemy of the Eye of the Stars, or does it have some other motive?’

It was all still a mystery, but for now, Mo Ling could only tentatively accept Lord Ying’s words as the truth.

After all, it was indeed trying to stop the activation contamination on the island.

That strange ”projection” must be its method—using historical projections to attack the future.

And the activated relics under its command, including the little bottle cap, were all restrained by it, existing on this Sky Island in a harmless state.

On the other hand, Mo Ling had never personally seen the activated form of the Eye of the Stars.

’It can’t be that it’s only spreading activation contamination. There must be some other purpose...’

Mo Ling was certain that if what Lord Ying said was true, then the goal of the Eye of the Stars couldn’t be so simple.

”I should tell you about your new job.”

Lord Ying’s tone suddenly became less grave.

”You and your human companion are looking for the beacon at the center, aren’t you? That will inevitably lead you into the Eye of the Stars’ sphere of influence.”

”It has hidden its true body and the source of its activation in a river of stars within an unknowable land. As long as you continue toward the center of the island, you will surely see it.”

”The job I need you to do is actually very simple. Just find the Eye of the Stars. Nothing else is required...”

As Lord Ying explained the task, the film reel in front of it suddenly began to turn. A piece of film flew out and stuck firmly to the top of the Block, then slowly faded away and disappeared.

”The Eye of the Stars has shrouded the central region in starlight, so I cannot extend my focus into it. Since you must make this journey anyway, please help me scout the way.”

”As payment, my film will protect you and your companion from being bewildered by that dazzling starlight...”

Mo Ling was still wondering where the film that had stuck to the Block went when he felt the Block being sent into the focal channel by a gentle force. The light and shadows around him shifted, and by the time he came to his senses, he was already back at the edge of the projection area.

The same old sepia filter remained. Everything that had just happened felt like a dream:

The giant projector flying in the sky, monitoring the entire Sky Island; the bottle cap that flipped everything over; the historical projections; the starlight and the source of activation...

The experience was surreal, and it took Mo Ling a long time to process it all.

’My brain is fried,’ Mo Ling sighed from within the Block.

He had never imagined that he would be drawn into such a huge crisis right after arriving on the fourth level of the Abyss.

To avoid forgetting anything, Mo Ling took out his electronic tablet and recorded his recent experience...

’There’s still a lot that doesn’t add up.’

He couldn’t completely trust Lord Ying’s words, but for now, he could only take things one step at a time.

After he finished writing, Mo Ling glanced back at the projection area, then passed through its border and returned to the normal zone.

The sepia filter instantly faded, and the echoing drone suddenly vanished. The difference between the two areas was so stark it was like crossing from one world into another.

Li Luo was still waiting anxiously nearby. When she saw the Block fly out of the battlefield, the worry on her face immediately vanished.

”Don’t be so reckless next time.” She patted the Block and said very seriously.

Then, she took her usual spherical probe from her backpack and waved it in front of the Block. ”Use technology, understand?”

Looking at the probe, Mo Ling paused. He had forgotten about that gadget. His mind was still stuck in the 21st century, so he hadn’t immediately thought of such high-tech solutions.

”But I’m just glad you’re okay.” Li Luo glanced at the battlefield. ”Was there anything inside?”

”There was too much...” Mo Ling didn’t know where to begin, so he just sent the electronic tablet out for Li Luo to see the densely packed notes.

The transport team from history, the source of activation, the projector, the starlight... The information left Li Luo dumbfounded.

After carefully reading through all the information, she, just like Mo Ling, was lost in deep confusion.

She seemed to have many questions, but she held them back as they reached her lips, only managing to say, ”You went through a lot.”

”That projector was right. We definitely have to go to the central region. Whatever the truth is, we’ll witness it for ourselves...”

Both of them were highly adaptable and this wasn’t the first time they had been drawn into strange incidents, so neither was overly nervous.

A short while later, Zhou Dynasty suddenly ran over from a distance.

”Did you guys see that? A path appeared in the middle of the battlefield that leads straight to the depths! How did that happen? Did your relic do something in there?”

He was extremely puzzled, his eyes repeatedly sizing up the Block.

Li Luo hesitated for a moment before handing him the electronic tablet.

”See for yourself.”

After reading the contents of the tablet, Zhou Dynasty was completely stunned.

”I’ve been on this island for so long, how did I not know any of this?” He started to doubt himself.

”So that path... Lord Ying opened it specifically for us to pass through?”

He looked disbelievingly at the conspicuous path in the battlefield.

A wide road had appeared between the fallen trees, leading straight into the depths. It was like Moses parting the Red Sea, completely splitting the battlefield in two.

Without a doubt, by following this road, they could avoid being affected by the projections in the battlefield.

”I suppose so. Since it wants us to enter the center, it certainly wouldn’t obstruct us.”

This suddenly appearing path made the group hesitate.

”Should we go?” Zhou Dynasty asked worriedly.

”Let’s go.” Li Luo, on the other hand, was very decisive.

”Right. Why not take a path if there is one.”

Zhou Dynasty immediately took the lead and headed for the path without any delay.

As he walked, he began to complain:

”I’ve been on this island for half a year, coexisting peacefully with its activation contamination, and now you’re telling me there’s a projector, starlight, and this huge conspiracy behind it all? Just thinking about it scares me.”

”My captain probably discovered all this a long time ago, didn’t he? What was he thinking? Leaving me here all alone with this useless Holy Sword that I can’t even use. What if I ran into danger? He didn’t even consider my safety.”

”If this keeps up, I’m really going to desert and run far, far away!”
