I Can Devour Spirits

The light shadow baby, in the instant its features solidified, puckered its small mouth, as if sucking nourishment...

This movement, the originally silent sea of tree spirits, as if summoned, countless green light threads, like school of fish in the ocean, floated upwards, swirling and wandering between heaven and earth...

The green spectral light, like a predator, frantically pursued and absorbed the red threads in the space...

Soon, every green glow rising from the sea of tree spirits was covered in red threads, like red blood flow, surging towards the sky, flowing into the small mouth of the light shadow baby...

With the continuous influx of the red light flow, the hollow body of the light shadow baby was slowly becoming solid...

However, the number of green light threads rising from the sea of tree spirits was astonishing; as time passed, the red threads between heaven and earth were gradually absorbed completely...

Just as the red threads thinned to a certain extent, the light shadow baby abruptly closed its small mouth, and the once frantically swirling green light threads suddenly paused, floating there...

Simultaneously, the divine statues of the Four Great Kings ceased to emit mist...

The circulation of the Taizang scriptures actually came to a stop!

”What’s happening? The divine statues of the Four Great Kings haven’t vanished, the time hasn’t come, why has the light shadow baby above the heavens stopped devouring the light threads...”

Duan Rong ceased the chanting and sealing, gazing toward the sky...

He saw next to the glowing milky-white star, a half-hollowed red baby, as if in deep sleep, floating motionlessly there...

Duan Rong quickly realized that the red threads between heaven and earth, like floating willow fluff, had almost entirely been depleted...

Duan Rong immediately understood, the lack of red threads presence caused the stop in Taizang scriptures circulation!

”Need to replenish Dragon Flame Fat!”

If it were normal cultivation, the red threads wouldn’t be consumed so quickly, but his practice with Taizang scriptures, due to the intervention of the sea of tree spirits, was already at a monstrous speed, leading to a staggering consumption of the red threads!

Duan Rong sat cross-legged, performing sealing and chanting, exited the Sea of Consciousness, then slipped on his underpants, fetched an empty wooden basin from the corner, and left the room to the large water jar in the courtyard, scooped a basin of clean water, and returned inside.

Duan Rong again poured some Dragon Flame Fat from the porcelain bottle, but this time, he estimated according to time, poured thrice the amount compared to last time.

Duan Rong looked at the liquid in the basin, red with a hint of faint purple, slightly furrowed his brow, removed his underpants, endured the intense pain, smeared the liquid over his entire body...

Duan Rong once more returned to the surrounding space, sat cross-legged on the cushion, performed chanting and sealing, re-entered the Sea of Consciousness...

At the moment Duan Rong chanted and sealed, suddenly his pores itched intensely, he could clearly feel as if something was burrowing into his pores all over, gathering at the back of his head...

Duan Rong entered the Sea of Consciousness, saw the red threads between heaven and earth spreading rapidly at a speed visible to the naked eye, more and more...

Duan Rong sat cross-legged, chanted and sealed, the cultivation technique of Taizang scriptures began functioning again.

The green spectral light rising in the sea of tree spirits commenced frantically absorbing the red threads between heaven and earth, then gathered into red flows, flowing into the mouth of the light shadow baby, the hollow body of the light shadow baby gradually solidified...

Don’t know how much time has passed, a vivid solidified red baby body floated high in the sky...

This baby, eyes tightly shut, body curled, motionless, like a fetus in deep sleep within the mother’s womb.

Red flows still continuously gathered towards it, slowly forming a membrane enveloping it...

As the red flows converged, the membrane seemed to slowly thicken, gradually becoming a thin cocoon...

Right at this moment, the divine shadow of the Four Great Kings suddenly trembled, then gradually began to vanish...

The instant the divine shadow of the Four Great Kings fully disappeared, the floating green spectral light, as if losing its call, suddenly paused, then floated there, like lifeless threads in water, motionless...

”Looks like the time has come...”

Following the dispersal of the divine shadow of the Four Great Kings, the originally settled mist swiftly spread, soon floating and billowing between heaven and earth once again...

Duan Rong glanced at the rolling mist, with his mind stirring, strode towards the southeast direction of the sea of tree spirits...

Duan Rong arrived at the sea of tree spirits, discovering only two tree spirits remaining, the rest all devoured by the red light shadow baby...

”With only these two tree spirits, it’s not enough for the next practice.”

”Seems like to accomplish the second layer of Taizang scriptures, I must venture to Wild Boar Mountain once more.”

Duan Rong raised his gaze towards the sky, seeing amid the hazy mist, beside the firmament, a blood cocoon glowing red...

That blood cocoon imparted an eerie unrestful sensation to Duan Rong...

Duan Rong performed sealing and chanting, exited the Sea of Consciousness!

The moment Duan Rong exited the consciousness sea, he opened his eyes on the cushion, and exhaled a stale breath, with a heavy spirit of weariness in his eyes.

The entire process of cultivating Taizang scriptures involved enduring the pressure of the divine shadow of the Four Great Kings, although he achieved the first layer of Taizang scriptures, with enhanced spiritual power, he still felt heavily oppressed under the pressure of the divine shadow of the Four Great Kings.

Duan Rong no longer dwelled on it, stored the hanging Mountain and River Map, climbed nude onto the bed, and as soon as he touched the bed board, he succumbed to a deep sleep...

Duan Rong slept straight through till dusk before waking, upon awakening he looked at the evening glow on the window, roughly estimating the time.

He lay there, pondering when to head to Wild Boar Mountain...

In three days’ time, it would be May fifteenth.

May fifteenth is the day for the assessment to become a full Escort Master, an event he must attend.

”Perhaps I should wait until after the assessment to go to Wild Boar Mountain?” Duan Rong pondered as he lay in bed, with one arm propped behind his head, his gaze flickered with thought.

Duan Rong immediately discarded this thought, unwilling to procrastinate the completion of the second layer of Taizang scriptures until after the assessment.

Better to make progress in each step, than to halt in each thought!

Duan Rong decided, to set off now, to enter Wild Boar Mountain tonight! As long as he returns before the assessment, so not to miss it.

Once Duan Rong made up his mind, he immediately jumped out of bed, dressed quickly, and hurried out of the Escort Agency, rented a robust chestnut horse from the carriage service, and at twilight departed from Xianggu County’s East City Gate.

Duan Rong took advantage of the night to travel, galloped all the way, at the midnight hour, he arrived near Wild Boar Mountain, only to see the rolling mountain range topped with a bright moon, its cool glow spilling everywhere!

Duan Rong led his horse to the house of the old man who had stored his horse last time.

Duan Rong stood outside the fenced yard, seeing the moonlight cast a silvery white sheen inside, the wooden house door was shut, faintly hearing the snoring from within.

”Old man Qin, disturbing so late at night!” Duan Rong called out loudly from outside the fenced yard.

Then, sounds of rustling emerged from inside the house, the door opened, Qin the old man draped in clothes, stood at the entrance, looked at the shadow standing outside the fence, said: ”Who’s there?”

”Old man, don’t be alarmed! I’m the one who stored a horse here previously.”

Old man Qin found Duan Rong’s voice slightly familiar, again glancing under the bright moonlight, the moonlight illuminated Duan Rong’s face, seeing the horse tethered beside him, he suddenly remembered.

Duan Rong seeing the old man recognized him, immediately clasped his hands in a gesture, apologized: ”Circumstances arose unexpectedly, disturbing so late, I hope for your understanding!”
