I Beat Up Npcs in a Bizarre World

246: Chapter 246: Testing the Gods (Twenty-Two)Fortunately, Ye Kingdom was not far from the Holy City to begin with.

Ye Kingdom quickly sent people to take over the Holy City.

At this moment, the Holy City was completely desolate and sparsely populated; it was truly a sight that made one sigh.

”It’s bad, it’s bad, Your Highness, Your Highness! The citizens of the Ye Kingdom capital have all fallen into a coma!”

”What!” Nangong Yan’s expression changed drastically.

”Where is the strategist?”

”Wasn’t the soul-fixing grass already brought back?” Nangong Yan’s face became extremely grim.

”The soul-fixing grass has already been used up.”

”How is that possible?”

”Ever since the strategist returned last time, the sun over the capital has become increasingly hot. From just a few hours at the beginning to more than a dozen consecutive hours, the amount of soul-fixing grass needed by the citizens has also increased.”

”We kept trying to find a way to contact you, but we couldn’t find the entrance to the Holy City at all.”

”It wasn’t until you contacted us that we discovered the location of the Holy City.”

The person who came was a member of the Ye Kingdom’s imperial guard named Zhao Xiang, who explained what had happened recently.

Nangong Yan’s brows were tightly locked, and a sense of foreboding surged in his heart.

”The consumption of this soul-fixing grass is so rapid that there must be a reason. Take me back to the capital to see for myself first,” Nangong Yan ordered.

Zhao Xiang acknowledged the order and hurriedly took Nangong Yan back to the capital.

Qianye and his group were also among them.

Upon arriving at the capital, Nangong Yan saw citizens lying unconscious everywhere in the streets and alleys, a scene of deathly silence.

He went to check the place where the remaining samples of the soul-fixing grass were stored, only to find that a faint, dark aura was emanating from around the samples.

”It’s them again.” Qianye smelled a familiar scent on it.

Qianye stood up and looked into the void. They were truly something else; for the sake of that... they would rather destroy all of humanity.

Are they betting on whether or not I will save them?

Nangong Yan was still searching for clues when Qianye’s low chuckle reached his ears.

”Do you know what they are trying to do?” Nangong Yan looked at Qianye.

Qianye retracted his smile and stared fixedly at him. ”Everything is about to end.”

”They... are gods... but they are not complete gods.”

”Gods... complete gods... what does that mean?”

”Why must we be dragged into the war of the gods?”

Nangong Yan’s face was pale. They were merely a group of weak humans; how could they possibly fight against gods?

”Why... why would they do this...”

Qianye was silent for a moment. ”Everything is for the sake of power... because... I.”

Before he could finish his sentence, the guards who were searching nearby began to collapse one by one.

At this moment, a faint blue light began to emanate from the bodies of the unconscious citizens—a sign that their souls were about to be extracted.

Nangong Yan clenched his fists and bit his lip tightly.

Finally, he spoke through gritted teeth, ”We must stop them.”

”On what grounds...”

”Although we are only humans, we also have the right to our own life and death.”

”It is not for them, with a single word or a single thought, to decide our life and death.”

”Even if we are just a blade of grass or a grain of sand, we still have the right to exist.”

”Even if tomorrow is the end of my life, they have no right to end my life early today.” Nangong Yan looked into the void with determined eyes.

”Right!”

”If the gods are unjust, then we shall destroy them.”

Meng Yu, who was on the side, also chimed in.

Because of a god’s game, they had been trapped in the Floating Life Pagoda for so long that they had forgotten they were human...

Qianye looked at their passionate faces, then lowered his head to look at the threads on his wrists.

Yes, that makes sense.

Look, even humans understand this logic; how have they lived only to become more confused?

Qianye muttered to himself.

They really have lived too long with nothing better to do.
