I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Moreover, his depletion was only temporary; he could release a strand of the Power of Feast at any time to instantly restore his Magic Power to full. At worst, he could also rely on eating Demon Crystals raw to rapidly recover his Magic Power.

After acquiring the [Top-Tier Magic Element Body], his options had expanded even further. Passive natural recovery and voraciously devouring Natural Magic like a whale were both additional means of restoration. Perhaps this was exactly why being a powerhouse brought endless surprises.

On the surface, he appeared to be nothing more than an unremarkable human Caster, albeit one with a total Magic Power capacity equivalent to a true dragon of the same level. But who would have thought he actually possessed numerous hidden backup energy reserves? And it wasn’t just a single reserve, but layer upon layer of them. Even when he looked completely drained and at the end of his rope, he could seamlessly transition into a second or third phase at any moment.

If this powerful recovery mechanism were placed in the online games of his previous life, he would undoubtedly be considered a humanoid boss.

”Total monster kills: 84,455.”

When the total kill count in his bestiary approached 85,000, Gauss temporarily lowered his Magic Staff. It wasn’t because his Magic Power was exhausted. On the contrary, his reserves actually swelled the more he killed, to the point where his Magic Power was nearly completely replenished.

A portion of this came from the passive recovery of Natural Magic. The rest was due to the sheer number of goblins within the Monster Legion; his title of Goblin Expert came with the innate [Bloodthirst] effect. This [Bloodthirst] effect rapidly restored his physical stamina, and for Gauss, physical stamina directly equated to Magic Power.

Furthermore, Gauss’s various Talents and specialties significantly reduced the consumption of his own Magic Power during the Casting process. By increasing his intake and reducing his expenditure, he was able to achieve this seemingly impossible state where his energy gauge practically ran in reverse, completely defying common sense.

If circumstances allowed, he could even maintain this slaughter indefinitely. Unfortunately, the number of monsters on the battlefield was finite.

Over the past while, a large portion of them had already retreated deep into the rear. The remaining scattered squads and tribes were currently being encircled and wiped out by the human cavalry. While the cavalry’s movements were considerably slower than Gauss, who had mastered Spatial Magic, they were still much faster than everyone else running on two legs.

Moreover, Gauss had already spotted two malicious figures lurking deep within the clouds. It was an immensely massive Two-legged Flying Dragon and the Rot-Winged Dragon Bat he had briefly encountered earlier. They glared at Gauss from afar. Their gazes seemed to issue a silent threat: if he dared to cross the battlefield’s median line and approach the Monster Legion’s encampment, they would unleash a devastating strike.

”Beautiful work, Gauss. Come back and rest for a moment.”

President Monroe’s voice echoed from a communication device around Gauss’s neck.

Gauss cast a reluctant gaze toward the densely packed legion in the distance. By his rough estimate, there were at least a hundred thousand monsters remaining.

”Understood,” he replied after a brief moment of silence.

His response allowed Matthias Monroe, who was anxiously awaiting a reply on the other end, to breathe a sigh of relief. Matthias had just been helping Gauss gather his spoils of war. When he looked up, the young man was gone. Only after asking around did he learn that the restless Gauss had charged straight back to the very front lines.

The moment he heard the news, it had given him quite a fright. After all, Gauss had just finished slaying a powerful Extraordinary Demon, which surely must have consumed a massive amount of Magic Power. Refusing to fall back and recover was bad enough, but he had immediately flown off to use highly draining area-of-effect spells to clear out low-level monsters!

Watching Gauss’s figure rapidly flying back from the horizon, Matthias Monroe couldn’t help but wipe the fine sweat from his brow, his heart filled with mixed emotions.

He thought, ”This kid is just too reckless.”

Even if Gauss was eager to prove himself and shoulder more responsibility, he shouldn’t have pushed himself to such extremes. It made an old man like Matthias—who was several times his age—feel thoroughly ashamed of his own comparative lack of drive.

Monroe decided that once they returned, he would have to give this young man a stern talking-to. Nothing was more important than one’s own personal safety.
