Homo Sapiens

”The second new drug is the specific antiviral, Antidote No. 4—Lanf Anning…”

Lanf Anning? Xie Bin’s eyes widened. ’Lanf?’ Fluent in English, his mind immediately began to race. ’Could this transliteration be...?’

Tian Hemeng pointed to the large screen on the stage and said, ”This is Lanf Anning’s treatment scope, usage instructions, therapeutic effects, and contraindications…”

Everyone was now staring intently at the large screen.

’They’ve actually developed a targeted antiviral,’ Martin from Roche thought, utterly astonished. At the same time, an irrepressible greed welled up inside him.

He was not the only representative from a Europa Pharmaceutical Company who felt this way.

Clearly, they had all seen the enormous profits at stake.

Meanwhile, the representatives from the Huaguo Pharmaceutical Companies, including Sinopharm Group, Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group, and Yangcheng Pharmaceutical, wore uncertain expressions.

These representatives hadn’t come just for the press conference. They maintained offices in Bamana because of their extensive business dealings with Qingye Medical.

Attending the conference was merely a gesture of respect, a way to show their support.

But they never expected Qingye Medical to unveil another game-changer. The head of the Sinopharm Group’s local office reacted fastest, immediately having his assistant email their headquarters.

The scene quickly devolved into chaos as representatives from many companies scrambled to contact their headquarters and report on Qingye Medical’s new drug.

This was especially true after Tian Hemeng projected numerous patient reports onto the large screen. While the specific drug couldn’t grant patients immunity, it could at least save their lives.

Having already received special authorization from his board of directors, Xie Bin stood up decisively and walked toward Tian Hemeng.

Harry from the Homo Sapiens Company did the same.

Before she could even step off the stage, Tian Hemeng was intercepted by the approaching Xie Bin and Harry.

Xie Bin asked impatiently, ”President Tian, is there any discount on the specific drug? If the price is right, our company is willing to purchase 100,000 boxes.”

He was well aware of Qingye Medical’s production capacity. He estimated that the monthly output of Antidote No. 4—Lanf Anning—wouldn’t exceed a few hundred thousand boxes. If he didn’t act fast, it would be too late.

”Our company also needs 100,000 boxes. How about a price of 4,500 Jin yuan per box?” Harry said with a grin, trying to haggle.

But Tian Hemeng had no intention of budging. ”5,000 is the absolute bottom price. After all, our company has to cover substantial R&D costs.”

Harry paused for a moment, apparently worried that Xie Bin would snatch the deal. He gritted his teeth and agreed, ”Then 5,000 Jin yuan per box it is. I hope you can prioritize the supply of these 100,000 boxes.”

’Damn it!’ Before Xie Bin could even say anything, Harry had already locked in the 100,000 boxes.

Worried that other companies would swoop in, he forgot about discounts and cut to the chase. ”President Tian, 5,000 Jin yuan a box it is. Please arrange for 100,000 boxes for our company as soon as possible.”

”Heh, no problem.” Tian Hemeng agreed with a beaming smile. In all her years in pharmaceutical sales, this was the first time she’d ever seen a contract signed without any haggling.

’Technology truly is the primary productive force,’ she thought.

Just two contracts had secured one billion Jin yuan in funds.

The other corporate representatives who witnessed this were inwardly cursing the Homo Sapiens Company and Zhengda Company, but their own footsteps quickened.

The representatives from the Samsung Group, Da Zheng Pharmaceutical, and Xiaolin Pharmaceutical in particular deliberately formed a human wall, surrounding Tian Hemeng to block others and let their own people negotiate first.

In contrast, the representatives from the Europa and Huaguo pharmaceutical companies were calmer, or perhaps more resigned.

Importing drugs wasn’t a simple matter. Small countries could easily grant a green light, but the European Union and Huaguo couldn’t approve them so readily.

The pharmaceutical companies wanted to make money, but signing a contract now would be useless. If Qingye Medical’s new drug failed to pass local regulatory reviews, they would be in an awkward position.

This was especially true for Europe, where Qingye Medical’s new drug was expected to have a difficult time getting through the approval process.

Martin from Roche, Carl from Bayer, and others all gave wry smiles. They knew all too well that, given AstraZeneca Company’s typical behavior, it would most likely obstruct Qingye Medical’s new drug from entering Europe.

When profits were on the line, they wouldn’t pay any mind to the painful cries of patients.

Unless Qingye Medical was willing to grant distribution rights to AstraZeneca Company.

However, since Roche’s headquarters was in the Alps Federation, Martin was confident he could persuade his board to get the new drug into the Alps Federation.

Therefore, pharmaceutical companies from all countries were now using every trick in the book, hoping to persuade their local authorities to give Qingye Medical’s new drug the green light so they could profit from it.

As for the pharmaceutical companies that were developing their own vaccines, they were caught in a dilemma.

Qingye Medical didn’t care about the dilemmas of the various national pharmaceutical companies or their petty schemes.

The drug was in Hongsawaddy, period. Whether other countries allowed it to be marketed was their own business. If they expected Qingye Medical to go through their application and approval processes, they could forget it.

Zhengda Company, having already figured out Qingye Medical’s temperament, planned to work through Siam’s Royal Group and several other major corporations and powerful families in Southeast Asia to quickly push for the launch of Antidote No. 4—Lanf Anning—in the region.

The Homo Sapiens Company also had partnerships with numerous small island nations in the Pacific Ocean and countries in Latin America.

South Korea and East Japan, both heavily influenced by their conglomerates, could also greenlight the new drug.

「The afternoon passed.」

Tian Hemeng had already signed 13 contracts worth a total of 4.2 billion Jin yuan.

Li Qingye was quite satisfied with Qingye Medical’s progress. He didn’t disturb Tian Hemeng, instead leaving quietly through a special exit with Mao Siqiang, Phil, and the others.

However, just as he stepped out the door, he encountered a few men from Tianzhu who smelled strongly of curry.

”Bana, that company is simply too outrageous! They’re actually demanding we pay in full.”

”Exactly! We’re willing to buy their drug, and they still make all these demands. They have no sincerity at all.”

Listening to their curry-flavored English and the pride and dissatisfaction in their words, Li Qingye just shrugged and got into an SUV.

Mao Siqiang couldn’t help but chuckle. ”My apologies, boss. It’s just that when doing business with people from Tianzhu, you don’t ship without full payment. It’s an unwritten rule in the industry.”

”I know. By the way, do the people from Tianzhu have enough Jin yuan reserves?”

Mao Siqiang shook his head. ”They probably don’t. A while ago, we imported a batch of generic drugs from Tianzhu worth over five million Jin yuan. Those guys came over and took Gold back with them directly.”

”It doesn’t matter. They’ll send the Gold right back,” Li Qingye said with a smile.

The situation was just as Li Qingye had predicted. Due to their insufficient Jin yuan reserves, and because the wealthy people of Tianzhu didn’t dare use smuggled drugs, they had no choice but to fly to Yangon for treatment.

These wealthy individuals from Tianzhu would bring Gold with them, exchange it for Jin yuan at Qingye Bank in Yangon, and then go to a nearby sanatorium for treatment.

The idea of emptying Hongsawaddy’s Gold reserves was nothing but a fantasy for the people of Tianzhu.

Especially with the launch of the specific drug Lanf Anning, the wealthy from Tianzhu who feared death would likely flock to Yangon for treatment in even greater numbers.

Li Qingye saw the key to this situation clearly, which was why he didn’t pay any mind to the Tianzhu companies exchanging Jin yuan for Gold.

To cash out Hongsawaddy’s Gold on a large scale, there would first have to be a significant trade deficit. But Hongsawaddy’s Jin yuan trading system was now trending more and more toward balanced trade.

So-called balanced trade meant that if one party purchased 10 billion Jin yuan worth of goods from another, the other party would also purchase 10 billion Jin yuan worth of goods from them, achieving a canceling effect.

In this situation, the Jin yuan would flow out and then back in, ultimately returning to Qingye Bank.

Even if expenditures occasionally exceeded income, the other party would most likely not touch the surplus Jin yuan, but instead hold it as a reserve.

Besides, Qingye Bank wasn’t afraid of them exchanging it. After all, with a monthly Gold production of 3 to 5 tons, as long as the circulation was controlled, the Jin yuan was bound to be incredibly stable.

In fact, through the sale of drugs, test strips, rice, timber, and agricultural products, Hongsawaddy’s exports now held a certain advantage.

If it didn’t expand its import of materials and products, Hongsawaddy would soon become a net importer of Gold.

Li Qingye had already become aware of this issue by reviewing internal intelligence.

In the first half of this year, Hongsawaddy had a Gold inflow of 1,728 kilograms, while the outflow was only 341 kilograms.

With the new drug on the market, another wave of Gold inflow was likely on its way.
