Harem Master: Seduction System

Chapter 18: Exploring The Verdant Dawn Academy

As Alaric and Cedric explored the expansive grounds of Verdant Dawn Academy, the sunʼs warm glow bathed the ancient stone buildings, casting long shadows across the lush gardens.

The academy was a grand marvel—its sprawling courtyards and majestic towers stretched high, reaching toward the sky as though they held the secrets of magic within their walls.

They hadnʼt wandered far before Natasha caught up with them. Her footsteps were light, and her face beamed with excitement, her eyes gleaming as she joined their conversation.

”I finally got everything settled in my room!” Natashaʼs voice was filled with relief, brushing a loose strand of her dark hair behind her ear. ”Itʼs so much bigger than I thought it would be!”

Cedric turned to her with a grin that spoke volumes of his playful nature. ”You like it? Alaricʼs got the best view though—top corner room, overlooking the whole academy grounds.”

Natashaʼs brows rose with curiosity, her violet eyes locking onto Alaric. ”Top corner, huh? You mustʼve gotten lucky with the dorms.”

Alaricʼs lips curled into a small, effortless smile. ”Just a coincidence, I think. But itʼs a quiet spot, perfect for studying... and watching everything unfold.”

His words carried an undertone of intrigue, as though he was always watching, always calculating. Natasha laughed lightly, though she couldnʼt help but sense a layer of mystery behind his calm demeanor.

As they walked, the sounds of bustling students echoed around them. The academy was alive, with young mages making their way through the ornate walkways, marveling at their surroundings. The grand fountain in the center of the courtyard shimmered under the midday sun, the water sparkling like liquid crystal as it danced into the air.

Natasha turned her gaze back to the academy. ”Itʼs so... impressive. Everything feels so much bigger here than I imagined.”

”It is impressive,” Alaric agreed, his tone thoughtful as his eyes swept over the ancient stonework and sprawling walkways. ”Far larger than I expected. And with so many students, itʼll be interesting to see how it all unfolds.”

Cedric chuckled, pulling out a map of the academyʼs grounds. ”Iʼm gonna need this for the next week just to find my way around. This place is huge!”

Natasha laughed at Cedricʼs overly dramatic display, shaking her head in amusement. ”Iʼm just sticking with you guys for a while. No way Iʼm getting lost on my first day.”

”I donʼt mind,” Alaric said with a faint smirk. ”We make a good trio.”

Cedric shot Alaric a curious glance, then grinned. ”Youʼre not wrong. Do you think weʼll all end up in the same classes?”

Alaric considered this for a moment. While he knew that being in the same group as them would make things more manageable, he was fully aware that his placement would likely be with the academyʼs top-tier students. There was no denying his power, nor his ambition. It was inevitable.

”Even if weʼre separated in classes, weʼll still have free periods,” Alaric replied smoothly. ”Plenty of time to connect outside of lectures.”

Natasha nodded, looking a bit more at ease. ”Thatʼs true. Besides, I think itʼll be fun seeing everyone in different settings.”

The three of them continued their exploration, passing under archways lined with ivy, venturing deeper into the academyʼs grounds. The air was fresh, filled with the scent of blooming flowers, while the sound of distant laughter and chatter filled the air. The academy felt like a small city in itself, with its own pulse and rhythm that they were just beginning to understand.

When they reached the magical training grounds, Natashaʼs eyes widened with excitement, her attention instantly drawn to the practice fields where students were honing their magical skills. The sight of elemental magic—fire, water, wind, and earth—danced through the air, creating a dazzling display of power and control.

”This... is incredible!” Natasha breathed, her gaze fixated on the spectacle before her. ”I canʼt wait to start practicing here.”

Cedric, meanwhile, found himself drawn to the towering library, its shelves filled with thousands of books on every conceivable aspect of magic, theory, and history. He paused, awe-stricken, as they passed through the grand entrance. ”Iʼll be spending most of my time here, thatʼs for sure.”

Natasha rolled her eyes, though a smile tugged at her lips. ”Of course you will. Just donʼt forget to practice your spells too.”

”Donʼt worry, I wonʼt.” Cedric chuckled, though the gleam in his eyes made it clear that he was more inclined towards magical theory than practical application.

Their conversation turned toward the academyʼs professors. Cedric couldnʼt contain his excitement as he spoke about Professor Verenthia, a renowned master of magical theory. ”Sheʼs supposed to be tough but fair. Iʼve heard she pushes students to their limits.”

Alaricʼs lips twitched into a faint smirk. ”Sounds like a challenge. Maybe Iʼll have to impress her.”

Cedric raised an eyebrow, playfully nudging Alaric. ”Why? So she can give you extra points?”

Natasha chimed in, her voice laced with amusement. ”I heard sheʼs really strict. The girls in the dorms were saying sheʼs terrifying. I hope I donʼt end up in her class.”

”Terrified of a little discipline, are you?” Alaric teased, his smile almost wicked.

Natasha flushed, shooting him a sharp look. ”Very funny. I just prefer a more... relaxed learning environment, thatʼs all.”

Cedric laughed at their exchange, his eyes twinkling with amusement. ”I think youʼll be fine. Just donʼt give her any reason to single you out.”

The banter between them flowed easily, the three growing more comfortable in each otherʼs presence as the day wore on. Eventually, they found themselves wandering into a secluded courtyard where a group of older students were practicing their spells. The display was mesmerizing—flames danced across the air, wind whipped through the courtyard, and water shifted like a living creature.

Alaricʼs eyes lit up, watching the magic with a quiet intensity. There was something exhilarating about seeing other students push their limits, toying with the very elements of nature. His own magic stirred within him, eager to be unleashed.

As they approached, a tall, silver-haired student caught their attention. He conjured a shimmering water serpent with an elegant flick of his wrist, the creature coiling through the air before dissipating into a fine mist.

”Impressive,” a voice chimed in beside them. They turned to see a girl with vibrant red hair and sharp green eyes. ”Thatʼs Victor. Heʼs one of the top students in elemental magic.”

Cedric looked starstruck. ”Thatʼs... amazing. Do you know him?”

The girl shrugged. ”Not really. Iʼm Mira.” She extended her hand with a friendly smile. ”You guys must be new here.”

”Alaric,” he replied, shaking her hand firmly. ”This is Cedric, and thatʼs Natasha.”

”Nice to meet you all,” Mariel said with a grin. ”If you need any help getting around, let me know. Iʼve been here for a year, so I know a few hidden spots.”

Natashaʼs eyes lit up. ”Really? Like what?”

Miraʼs smile widened. ”Thereʼs a secret garden not far from here. Itʼs a great place to practice in peace. Want me to show you?”

Alaric exchanged a quick glance with Cedric and Natasha before nodding. ”Lead the way.”

They followed Mariel through a series of winding paths, passing through archways covered in ivy and down narrow corridors that seemed hidden from the rest of the academy. Eventually, they reached a tall, ornate gate covered in creeping vines.

”This is it,” Mariel said, pushing the gate open to reveal a hidden garden filled with vibrant flowers that shimmered in the soft light of the setting sun. The air was thick with the sweet scent of blossoms, and a sense of calm washed over them as they stepped inside.

Natasha gasped, her eyes wide with wonder. ”This... is beautiful.”

Alaricʼs gaze swept over the garden, taking in the serenity of the space. It was the perfect place to train, to think, to plot. ”How did you find this place?”

”I stumbled on it during my first week,” Mariel replied with a nostalgic smile. ”Itʼs my little sanctuary.”

”Can we practice here?” Cedric asked, excitement clear in his voice.

Mira laughed softly. ”Of course. Just donʼt destroy any of the flowers.”

They spent the next hour experimenting with small spells, their laughter echoing through the garden as they tested their abilities. Alaric observed closely, taking note of Cedric and Natashaʼs strengths and weaknesses. The bonds between them were growing, and he knew that these friendships could be just as powerful as any spell.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the academy in a golden glow, Natasha finally spoke up. ”We should probably head back. Iʼm starving.”

”Agreed,” Alaric said with a grin. ”Letʼs find something to eat.”

They returned to the main building, the smell of freshly cooked food guiding them to the dining hall. The large room buzzed with the lively chatter of students as they lined up to grab plates of roasted meats, fresh vegetables, and fragrant bread.

Cedric eyed the selection with glee. ”Anything look good?”

”Everything!” Natasha replied, her eyes wide as she scanned the options. ”Iʼm not sure where to start.”

Alaric chuckled softly, grabbing a tray as he surveyed the assortment of dishes. The dining hall was a grand space, the high vaulted ceilings adorned with chandeliers, casting a soft glow over the bustling room. Students mingled at long tables, their voices filling the space with laughter and lively conversation.

”I recommend the roasted pheasant,” Alaric suggested, selecting a plate for himself. ”It smells fantastic.”

Natasha eyed the roasted bird hungrily and nodded. ”That does look good.” She quickly filled her plate with pheasant, vegetables, and a thick slice of fresh bread. Cedric followed suit, though he piled his tray higher with an assortment of everything, his enthusiasm evident in his wide grin.

”I feel like I could eat a dragon,” Cedric joked, settling in at a nearby table with his overflowing plate.

”Letʼs hope thatʼs not on the menu,” Natasha replied with a smirk, sitting across from him. Alaric took a seat beside her, his movements calm and deliberate, as always.

As they began eating, the conversation flowed naturally. Natashaʼs excitement was palpable as she shared her thoughts about the academy. ”Iʼve always dreamed of studying at a place like this. My parents told me stories about their time here, but being in the middle of it all... Itʼs like living in one of those stories.”

Cedric nodded between bites of food. ”Same. The way the professors control their magic is something else. I canʼt wait to learn more about elemental manipulation.” He paused, looking at Alaric with a curious smile. ”What about you? Whatʼs your goal here?”

Alaric took a moment, setting down his fork. He gazed at the lively dining hall, watching the students animatedly discussing their day, their futures, and their dreams. His mind, however, was already calculating far beyond their immediate surroundings.

”My goal is simple,” Alaric began, his voice steady but layered with intent. ”Iʼm here to push myself to the limit and see how far I can go. The academy offers more than just knowledge—itʼs a place where the truly ambitious can rise to power.”

Natasha tilted her head, intrigued by his response. ”Power, huh? I guess that makes sense. A place like this, itʼs all about who can rise to the top.”

Cedric grinned, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. ”Well, with the way you handled yourself earlier today, Iʼd say youʼre off to a pretty good start.”

Alaricʼs smile was faint but meaningful. ”Itʼs just the beginning. Thereʼs much more to come.”

Natasha chuckled lightly, her eyes flickering with curiosity. ”Iʼll be watching then. Canʼt let you get too far ahead.”

A comfortable silence fell over the group as they continued eating. The day had been long, filled with new experiences and revelations, but the camaraderie they shared made everything feel more manageable. The bonds they were forming, though still new, had the potential to grow into something powerful—something Alaric would use to his advantage.

As they finished their meal, a tall figure approached their table. Alaricʼs gaze sharpened as he checked out a figure in the distance. It was Professor Maelis, the instructor for advanced elemental magic. Her presence commanded attention, her deep emerald robe flowing gracefully behind her as she stopped in front of them.

”Good evening,” Professor Maelis greeted, her voice smooth and authoritative. ”Youʼre the new students, I presume?”

They nodded, with Alaric meeting her gaze directly. Natasha and Cedric seemed slightly in awe of her, but Alaric remained calm, sensing an opportunity.

”Iʼve been observing todayʼs sessions,” Maelis continued, her eyes glancing over each of them before settling on Alaric. ”And Iʼve heard quite a bit about your potential. You handled the entrance exam well. Very well.”

”Thank you, Professor,” Alaric replied smoothly, his tone respectful yet confident.

Maelis regarded him for a moment longer, her expression unreadable. ”Weʼll see if you can maintain that level in my class. I donʼt tolerate mediocrity.”

Alaricʼs eyes glimmered with determination. ”I donʼt intend to be mediocre, Professor.”

A faint smile played on Maelisʼs lips as if she appreciated his resolve. ”Good. I look forward to seeing what youʼre capable of.”

With that, she gave a curt nod to the group and continued on her way, leaving the trio in silence. Natasha let out a low whistle once Maelis was out of earshot.

”Wow, sheʼs intense,” Natasha said, still a bit wide-eyed.

”Yeah, no kidding,” Cedric added. ”I thought she was going to set the table on fire with that stare.”

Alaric, however, was unphased. He knew that being noticed by someone like Professor Maelis was not just a compliment—it was an opportunity. The more attention he drew from powerful figures, the quicker his path to dominance would unfold.

”Sheʼs just making sure weʼre serious,” Alaric said, his voice calm. ”And we are.”

Natasha nodded, her expression firming. ”Youʼre right. We didnʼt come here to slack off.”

Cedric gave a lopsided grin, though a spark of determination flickered in his eyes. ”Well, Iʼve got no intention of falling behind either. Letʼs see what weʼre all made of.”

With the evening winding down, the trio made their way back to their dorms, the sky now a deep indigo streaked with stars. The academy felt different at night—quieter, but filled with a subtle energy that hinted at the hidden potential within its walls.

As they parted ways at the dormitories, Natasha gave them a final wave. ”Tomorrowʼs another big day. Letʼs make it count.”

”We will,” Alaric replied, his voice laced with certainty.

As he entered his room, Alaric took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the day settle in his bones. The academy was everything heʼd hoped for—and more. It was a place where he could sharpen his abilities, but it was also a stage for him to rise above the rest.

And rise, he would.

Alaric moved to the window, gazing out at the academy grounds bathed in the silver glow of moonlight. His mind raced with possibilities, with plans. The friendships he was forging, the professors he would impress, and the enemies he would undoubtedly make—all of it was part of the intricate web he was weaving.

He wasnʼt just here to study magic.

He was here to become something more.

Something powerful.

The night stretched on, and as Alaric closed his eyes, the quiet hum of magic in the air filled his senses. Tomorrow, he knew, would bring new challenges and new opportunities. And he was ready for every single one of them.

Meanwhile, back at Steele Mansion, Kara and Lyra had returned home. Kara, as the maid of the Steele Mansion, busied herself with tending to the house, while Lyra sat in her study, her thoughts lingering on her son.

”Heʼll make me proud,” Lyra whispered to herself, a faint smile on her lips. ”I know he will.”
