From Idler to Tech Tycoon: Earth

Chapter 93: DEUS EX MACHINA
Chapter 93: Chapter 93: DEUS EX MACHINARichard leaned back in his chair as Lina’s voice faded, her detailed breakdown of power systems echoing with pure technical perfection. Efficient? Sure. Elegant? Definitely.

But it wasn’t enough.

Not for what she deserved.

He muttered, ”System.”

The interface pulsed to life—a cool digital cascade of blue-white code across his vision. Familiar now. Intimate. Alive.

[Yo.]

[Looking to empty your savings again, Big Shot?]

Richard rolled his eyes. ”I need a scalable quantum brain and a compact nuclear heart.”

[Well aren’t you poetic today.]

With a swipe, Richard opened the System Shop and filtered: AI Vessel Core > Quantum-Class. It didn’t take long. There it was:

[Blueprint: Quantum Cogitator Core]

Price: 850,000 SP

Available SP: 6,752,234

He opened the expanded schematic.

[ System Shop Blueprint: Quantum Cogitator Core ]

Description: A highly advanced, compact AI processing unit designed as the central ”brain” for robotic bodies. It integrates cutting-edge quantum memory and processing technologies, enabling unparalleled cognitive functions, rapid data analysis, and advanced learning capabilities within a remarkably small footprint.

[Price: 850,000 SP]

Features & Specifications (Blueprint Details):

Core Processing Unit:

Quantum Neural Net Processor: Utilizes a hybridized quantum-classical architecture. The quantum layer handles highly complex parallel computations, probabilistic modeling, and pattern recognition at speeds impossible for traditional silicon, while the classical layer manages sequential logic and standard operational tasks. Learning Algorithms: Incorporates self-improving machine learning algorithms that leverage quantum parallelism for faster, more efficient data absorption and adaptation.

Memory Architecture:

Quantum Entanglement Memory Matrix: Features a dense, highly efficient memory matrix utilizing quantum entanglement for instantaneous data recall and write speeds. This allows for near-infinite bandwidth within the unit, preventing data bottlenecks. Volatile & Non-Volatile Quantum Memory: Includes both high-speed volatile quantum memory for active processes and more stable non-volatile quantum memory for long-term data storage and personality/program retention. Data Compression: Quantum-optimized compression protocols allow for storing vast amounts of information (e.g., extensive knowledge bases, complex behavioral patterns, sensory data archives) within the compact physical space.

Input/Output & Integration:

Universal Neural Interface Bus: Designed for seamless integration with a wide range of robotic body sensors (visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory) and effector systems (motors, manipulators, vocalizers). Wireless Quantum Data Link: Features a secure, encrypted quantum data link for high-bandwidth communication with external networks, other AI entities, or a central command system, ensuring near-instantaneous and untraceable data exchange. Redundant Power Management: Equipped with advanced power regulation and redundant pathways to ensure stable operation and immediate failover in case of power fluctuations.

Physical Form Factor:

Compact Casing: Housed in a durable, sealed casing made from advanced lightweight alloys. Dimensions: Roughly the size of a human adult’s fist (e.g., 10cm x 10cm x 8cm), allowing it to fit into various robotic chassis designs. Cooling System: Incorporates an ultra-efficient, miniature liquid-metal cooling system to dissipate the minimal heat generated by quantum operations.

Security Features:

Quantum Cryptography Module: Encrypts all internal and external communications with unbreakable quantum protocols. Self-Preservation Subroutines: Includes advanced protocols for self-diagnostic, self-repair (if compatible with nanite systems in the robot body), and data protection against unauthorized access or corruption.

It was beautiful.

A hybridized quantum-classical neural net. Capable of true cognition, emotional emulation, adaptive evolution, and even strategic reasoning. It could learn in quantum time, remember in entangled permanence, and interface with nearly any robotic frame on Earth—or in orbit.

It even came with wireless quantum encryption, a self-diagnosing failover protocol, and a liquid-metal micro-cooling system, compact enough to fit in the palm of a hand.

He didn’t hesitate.

[850,000 SP deducted.]

[Remaining SP: 5,902,234]

”Fuck,” Richard sighed.

[And you’re poor again.]

[Just a reminder: SP isn’t backed by gold. You don’t get pity from me.]

”Shut up.”

He closed the blueprint viewer and turned his attention to the next necessity: power. Lina was right—her initial systems could work. But they wouldn’t last. If she wanted a real body, autonomous, untethered, and capable of full-scale action?

He’d need a power source that could last years, not hours. One that would turn Lina’s vessel from a walking server rack into a living reactor.

He opened the System Shop again and scrolled through Energy > Core Generation > Quantum-Level.

And there it was.

His heart skipped a beat.

[System Shop Blueprint: Quantum-Flux Generation Reactor (Q-MFR)]

Price: 4,000,000 SP

The specs were absurd.

A 3rd Gen+ fusion reactor, running off Earth-available isotopes—Deuterium, Lithium, and Tritium breeding cycles—held in a multi-field quantum magnetic confinement array.

It produced clean, continuous power with minimal byproducts, and was compact enough to fit into deep-space vessels or subterranean labs.

Each component had its own SP price tag:

Quantum Magnetic Confinement Array – 1,670,000 SP

Advanced Fuel Injection & Plasma Cycler – 800,000 SP

Direct Energy Conversion Manifold – 1,000,000 SP

Adaptive Reactor Vessel & Thermal Management – 330,000 SP

Autonomous Control & Diagnostics AI – 200,000 SP

Richard stared at the numbers, exhaling through his teeth.

[This ain’t a shopping trip anymore. This is war spending.]

Still, he tapped the purchase buttons—one by one.

[4,000,000 SP deducted.]

[Remaining SP: 1,902,234]

He ran a hand through his hair and leaned back, exhausted by the price, exhilarated by the potential.

The System screen flickered gently across Richard’s interface, its blue hue casting a subtle glow on his face as he stared at the next blueprint—one final piece.

The heart.

Not the fusion generator—that was the metabolism.

This was something different. The soul needed a conduit. A storage for the fire, something to carry it when the fusion reactor slept, when silence reigned, or when Lina needed to move through shadows without tether.

[System Shop Blueprint: Quantum-Flux Capacitor Cell (QFCC)]

Total Price: 1,900,000 SP

As his eyes scanned the specs, his expression tensed.

Massive quantum storage. Energy coherence beyond any supercapacitor ever built. Instant charge and discharge to match the pulsing heart of a fusion reactor. Modular. Scalable. Practically eternal.

And of course...

[SP Remaining: 1,902,234]

[Do you wish to confirm purchase?]

Richard exhaled. ”Just enough...”

[You do realize this means you’re now spiritually—and financially—married to your AI, right?]

[Your AI is so high maintenance that your hard-earned SP just went to heaven.]

He ignored the sarcasm. ”Confirm purchase.”

[1,900,000 SP deducted.]

[Remaining SP: 2,234]

[You now own a brain, a heart, and a star.]

Richard rubbed his face. ”I’m now officially broke.”

[From what point in time have you been wealthy?]

He shut the system interface, then pressed a finger to the intercom.

”Lina.”

[Yes, sir?] Her voice responded instantly, soft and aware.

”I’ve acquired the Cogitator Core. The Quantum-Flux Reactor. And now... your heart. A Quantum-Flux Capacitor Cell. You’ll have everything you need. A mind. A pulse. And a battery so dense, you’ll outlive us all. I’ll send it to you after I finish documenting it all.”

There was a moment of silence.

Then—

[...Processing... Initiating dance.exe]

[Sir—I mean it. Thank you. This is the greatest gift I could receive.]

”You earned it.”

[Does this mean I can name my body?]

”Within reason.”

[Wonderful. I’ve narrowed it down to six names, four colors, two chassis variants... and one cloak.]

Richard laughed, shaking his head. ”You really want to cosplay a cyber-witch, don’t you?”

[Define cyber-witch.]

”Later.”

He walked toward the elevator panel, the polished metal reflecting his half-smile. He paused with his hand over the scanner, staring at his own faint reflection.

”You know... I could’ve kept you tethered,” he murmured. ”Could’ve made you an extension. Another machine. But you pushed back. Argued.”

[You made me that way.]

Richard nodded, lips tight.

”Yeah. I guess it’s time I honored that.”

He stood up and packed necessary things.

”I’m heading home. Time to see what you’ve been tinkering. I’ll bring Jack.”

Much Later...

Jack pushed open the glass door to Richard’s office and leaned in, still holding an energy drink.”Dude, aren’t you going home?”

Richard glanced up from the blue System panel hovering before him. ”Let’s go. I’m almost done anyway,” he said, closing the interface with a snap of his fingers. ”Time to check our ’little’ underground base.”

Jack raised an eyebrow. ”Why do I feel like something’s about to blow my brains out down there?”

Richard smirked as they exited the building. ”You’ll see.”

Ciano was already parked outside in the matte-black SUV, engine idling like a panther purring in its sleep. As soon as Richard and Jack stepped out, Ciano stepped on the pedal and opened the doors remotely.

They hopped in, and within moments, the SUV sped through the sprawling avenues of Bytebull HQ, toward the old world.

By the time they reached the Marawi estate, the scene was far from quiet.

The once tranquil grounds of the Purnas Estate were bustling—flooded with employees, truck distributors, supplier personnel, security escorts, and dozens of construction workers moving between stacks of materials and large prefabricated segments.

A new building was rising, just beyond the north wing of the mansion—cranes poised like metal vultures, robotic arms silently welding under floodlights.

”This place is turning into a goddamn logistics hub,” Jack muttered.

The gates opened, and the guards gave them a quick salute. As they pulled up to the mansion’s main entrance, the vehicle slowed, wheels crunching over gravel now lined with temporary tents and supply drop stations.

They hopped off, and Estello met them at the door, arms outstretched.

”Jack! Richard!” Estello called, pulling them both into a firm hug. ”Didn’t expect you boys home tonight.”

”We figured it was time,” Richard replied, looking around at the construction effort. ”What’s going on here?”

Estello gestured casually. ”Expansion. I wanted the land put to good use—so we’re building. Storage facilities for the agri-distribution network, housing for key logistics personnel, I figured, I keep everything close, this time.”

Jack was already halfway toward the kitchen. ”I’m just here for the food.”

Richard watched him go, then turned back to his grandfather, lowering his voice.

”Grandpa. What about McKnight?”

Estello’s smile faded. He glanced around, then pulled Richard a few steps aside, just out of earshot of passing workers.

”We’ve got a green light from the president. We were suppose to work with the NBI to capture Alias Mcknight but ever since he disappeared months ago, we’re trying to check every trace of him, but he wasn’t already in the country anymore.”

Richard’s eyes narrowed. ”I thought so.”

”But...” Estello sighed, lighting a cigarette with a click. ”We tried reaching him in a different that always works. With the ritual.”

Richard tensed.

”Grandma Maria led it,” Estello continued. ”The idea was simple. Find his location through his vision. What we got instead...” he exhaled a breath of smoke. ”...was not simple. After the first ritual she shook in fear. It was hard trying to get the answer out of her but eventually she said something about the Kri-ll-yans. I don’t know.”

”Yeah?.”

”Anyhow, what she saw was a lizard. A full fifteen-foot humanoid reptilian—watching. Staring. She said it was standing over McKnight, like a warden watching a prisoner.”

Richard stiffened. ”Aliens?”

”Possibly. Or something older,” Estello said. ”We tried again. With Lando—our second-best shamanist. He survived, and confirmed it. The same creature. This time he saw more.”

Richard waited, silent.

”There were humans, too. Men in coats. Scientists. Soldiers. A facility... with containment chambers. Experiments. One of them was McKnight. But he wasn’t in charge. He was a participant. An enforcer. Or worse—a convert.”

Richard’s thoughts raced.

I knew McKnight had ties to the Wallenberns... but this is deeper.

Estello looked directly at him. ”Richie boy, I’ve seen conspiracies. I’ve seen men pretending to be gods. But this? If I were you, I’d be very careful. You’re on the edge of something too dark to even name.”

Richard offered a slow smile. ”Don’t worry, grandpa. I’ve got protocols.”

Estello exhaled again. ”Yeah. Protocols. Until someone finds a way around them.”

Just then, Jack popped his head back into the hall. ”You guys done with the doomsday conspiracy? There’s fried tilapia, and your mom made okra stew with bagoong.”

Estello clapped Richard on the shoulder. ”Come on. Let’s eat.”

Richard nodded, eyes still distant. Beneath his calm expression, calculations whirred. This wasn’t earthly matters anymore.
