Chapter 107: Chapter 67: Declaration To The World

The sky burnt.

For a moment, no one breathed.

The symbol of Nova still hung above the colosseum like a second sun, its light washing the arena in pale brilliance. Dust drifted through the air in slow motion, caught between silence and anticipation. Tens of thousands of people stared upward, their voices stolen by something they didn’t understand but instinctively feared.

Then the figure moved.

Nova stepped forward.

There was no fall. There was no descent.

One moment he was seated in the sky, and the next, the air collapsed beneath him, space folding inward as he dropped straight into the arena.

He landed between Kieran and Liam.

Stone shattered.

The impact thundered through the colosseum, cracks racing outward like lightning beneath his feet. Wind burst outward in a violent ring, tearing banners loose, forcing spectators to shield their faces as dust and pressure rolled through the stands.

Nova rose slowly from the crater he’d made.

The mask caught the light, smooth, unreadable, both eyes hidden behind its cold surface. The small ornate stone hanging from its side swayed gently, clicking once against the mask as everything fell silent again.

Roy? Why was Roy here? Why is he doing this now? Why am I scared?

His breathing became quicker.

He said nothing. He simply looked at them.

And somehow, that felt worse than any threat.

Kieran’s grip tightened on his blade before his thoughts could catch up. His heart hammered against his ribs, every nerve alive, every muscle coiled. He didn’t understand what was happening and only that something had entered the arena that did not belong in a tournament.

This wasn’t an interruption.

This was an intrusion.

Danger. Lethal danger.

So Kieran did the only thing he knew how to do.

He swallowed his spit, and he moved.

Prana surged violently through his body as he lunged, blade flashing toward Nova’s neck. No hesitation. No warning. A strike meant to kill before the unknown could act first.

Nova tilted his head.

The blade missed by inches. Kieran’s eyes widened.

Nova’s hand moved.

The air cracked.

Kieran’s body was thrown backward like he’d been struck by something invisible, boots tearing trenches through stone before he caught himself, skidding to a stop.

Liam moved at the same time.

A fist drove toward Nova’s ribs with monstrous force, the kind that had already broken stone and bone alike.

Nova caught it.

Not with strength but with timing.

His hand closed around Liam’s wrist, stopping the blow completely. The ground beneath them fractured again, shockwaves rippling outward.

For the first time, Liam frowned.

”...Who are you?” he asked.

Nova released him without answering.

The silence stretched.

Above them, the symbol of Nova burnt brighter.

In the stands, Brock leaned forward, eyes wide. ”What the hell is happening...?”

Tanaka didn’t answer. His gaze was locked onto the masked figure below, unease crawling up his spine. Something about the way Nova stood relaxed, almost bored, made the entire arena feel smaller.

Aarti watched in stunned silence, hands gripping the railing. Graham’s expression had hardened, eyes narrowing as he tried to understand what he was seeing.

This wasn’t part of the tournament.

This wasn’t normal.

And beyond the arena walls, beyond the city itself, word was already spreading. Screens, projections, and scrying mirrors; however people watched, they saw the same thing.

The world watched.

Nova moved first this time.

He stepped forward, and the air bent around him.

Kieran reacted instantly, blade flashing again.

Nova walked through them.

Not overpowering them.

Ignoring them.

Each strike slid past him by margins too small to understand. Each movement was deliberate and controlled, like a teacher correcting mistakes.

Kieran’s mind raced.

Nova.

But this, this wasn’t how it was supposed to happen now? Not until the finals?

Why here?

Why now?

Liam surged forward again, strength exploding outward. His fist collided with Nova’s guard, shockwaves blasting dust into the air. The arena trembled beneath their clash.

For the first time, Nova pushed back.

Liam’s feet left the ground.

He skidded across the arena floor, carving a deep scar through stone before stopping himself.

His eyes sharpened.

Excitement flickered there.

”...You’re strong,” Liam said quietly. ”So I’ll ask again.”

He rolled his shoulders, blood singing with anticipation.

”Who are you?”

The wind died. The dust settled. Nova straightened his posture.

Slowly, deliberately, he looked from Liam... to Kieran.

Then Nova spoke.

His voice carried effortlessly across the arena, across the stands, and across the stunned silence of thousands.

Calm. Certain. Unshakeable.

”I am Nova.”

The symbol above flared, light spilling across the colosseum like dawn breaking.

A pause.

Then...

”I am Nova in Veil.”

The words landed like a declaration of war.

Then he walked forward away from the dust and into the open where everyone could see.

”We are the ones you chose to forget.”

”We are those who are shackled.”

”We are those who fight for others.”

”Who condemns the wrong and restores the stolen light from this world.

”We are called...”

”Nova in Veil”.

Kieran then murmured to himself, finishing off the line. ”We’ve come to liberate.”

The words hung in the air long after Nova finished speaking.

The name echoed through the colosseum, through the stands, through the silence that had swallowed tens of thousands whole. Even the wind seemed to hesitate, as if unsure whether it was allowed to move anymore.

Fear crawled up everyone’s spine before he could stop it.

Not fear of Nova.

Fear of what this meant.

What this declaration would do...

Liam exhaled slowly, rolling his neck as he stepped forward again. His eyes never left the masked figure.

Unlike the crowd, he wasn’t frozen.

He was thinking.

”You made quite an entrance,” Liam said, voice calm but edged with curiosity. ”So I’ll ask properly this time.”

He gestured slightly to the sky, to the burning symbol, to the silent arena surrounding them.

”What do you want?”

No answer.

Nova stood still, cloak shifting faintly in the settling dust.

Liam’s gaze hardened.

”And why here?” he continued. ”Why now?”

His eyes flicked briefly toward the stands, toward the thousands watching, toward the devices and mirrors capturing every second.

”You understand what you’ve just done, don’t you?”

The question wasn’t mocking.

It was factual.

”This is being broadcast everywhere. Every country. Every city. Every TV. The whole world is watching you right now.”

The weight of it settled over the arena.

In the stands, people shifted uneasily. Some whispered. Some stared in awe. Others in fear.

Liam continued, voice lowering slightly.

”There are commanders here. Multiple ones.” His eyes swept across the higher stands where figures sat unmoving, their presence heavy even from a distance. ”People who don’t tolerate disruptions like this.”

His gaze returned to Nova.

”The moment this ends, they’ll come for you.”

A pause.

”The whole world will.”

Dust drifted between them.

”You’ll get killed.”

Silence followed.

Nova didn’t respond.

Not immediately.

Instead, his head tilted slightly.

His eyes moved slowly to the left, then to the right.

The motion was small.

Unnecessary. Liam noticed it instantly.

For half a second, nothing happened. No shift in posture. No change in breathing. No visible reaction from behind the mask.

The arena held its breath.

Then...

Nova smiled. It started small.

A faint twitch at the corner of his mouth, barely visible beneath the shadow of the mask. Then it spread, slow and deliberate, curling into something sharper. Something colder.

Something amusing.

And then he laughed.

A loud laugh.

A mocking laugh.

A satirical laugh.

The kind of laughter that didn’t deny the threat but dismissed it entirely.

The sound carried unnaturally far, echoing through the colosseum, bouncing off stone and sky alike. It made people shift where they stood, unease crawling under their skin without understanding why.

Kieran’s stomach dropped.

He’d heard Roy laugh before.

But never like this.

Nova’s laughter faded into a quiet exhale.

When he spoke again, his voice was calm.

Certain. Absolute in its manner.

”No one”, he said, ”can kill me.”

The words landed heavier than any strike.

Above them, the symbol of Nova flared again, light spilling across the arena as if the sky itself acknowledged the claim.

Around them, the world watched.

And for the first time since the tournament began, it felt less like a competition and more like the beginning of something far worse.
