Endless Winter: My Camp Upgrades Infinitely

Chapter 1657: Chapter 523: Yangqu Retreats, Wuchuan Advances

Moao Calendar Year 136, December 30, Night

“Beishuo has fallen, Yang Jian has been killed, Yang Zhun and Yang Fa have been captured alive, how is that possible, how is that possible…”

Yangqu Town, Lord’s Hall.

Sitting in the main seat, Cao Qianyang hears the news brought by Cai Qiuhu, and immediately stands up from his chair, his pupils trembling, his face full of horror.

Of course, not just him, the Town Chief Cao Yuankang, Army Chief Yan Chenzhou, Deputy Army Chief Wu Tianfa, along with all the high-ranking officials in the hall of Yangqu, showed almost identical expressions.

“How is it impossible? Yang Zhun exhausted all his means, yet his 180 Jin strength was defeated by Xia Hong, Chu Tianxu was also forced to retreat by two Great Xia Beast Emperor-level puppets. You Five Towns are extremely foolish, fighting separately from the beginning, hiding within the town, being defeated one by one by Great Xia, it’s not unusual at all…”

Cai Qiuhu paused, looked up at Cao Qianyang sitting at the top seat, his face slightly showing a hint of displeasure, then continued in a deep voice: “Lord Cao, I have already pleaded with Xia Hong, he agreed to give you a month to evacuate with your men.”

Cao Qianyang’s mind was already muddled at this moment, he didn’t even listen carefully to Cai Qiuhu’s latter words, only waiting for the other’s voice to stop, he immediately showed a struggling expression and said: “Little Landgrave Cai, I still have over 14,000 defenders inside Yangqu City, and only about 40,000 Xia Army outside. Previously, we have found out that the Xia Army only has Xianyang-levels Yuan Cheng, Qiu Peng, Xu An, Zhu Shun, Zhu Xing, and Lin Ye. As long as Little Landgrave Cai leads the adults to assist us, Yangqu Town…”

“Lord Cao!”

Seeing Cao Qianyang trying to use his own people, Cai Qiuhu immediately interrupted him coldly. He brought a total of 100 Xianyang-level from Cai Qiu, leaving 50 at Jinshan Town, placing 11 at Wuchuan East Valley City, and bringing the remaining 39 to Yangqu Town.

Initially, he did plan to help Yangqu defend the city, but when he saw Beishuo City fall just during the day, he immediately realized that Yangqu Town was likely untenable.

Thinking of this, he looked up at Cao Qianyang’s struggling face, a flash of disdain in his eyes quickly dissipated, and he then said with a cold smile: “Lord Cao, there were just over 35,000 defenders in Beishuo City, Yang Zhun’s 180 Jin strength, nearly Second Turn Tribulation Body Realm strength, couldn’t hold, do you think just these 39 behind me can stop the Xia Army?”

“Didn’t Little Landgrave Cai say that the Bone-Eroding Path is open, it can…”

“Even if Cai Qiu wants to send an army south, it won’t rescue your Yangqu City in time, Lord Cao may not know, just recently when I returned, there were over twenty more tents outside the Xia Army camp.”

Cao Qianyang was stunned upon hearing the words, but quickly understood something, his face suddenly darkened.

Chui Mountain is already Great Xia’s territory, Yangqu is adjacent to Chui Mountain, Yuan Cheng is determined to take Yangqu Town, certainly the reinforcements would come continuously from the rear, he had already figured this before the battle began.

A single Great Xia Army tent can accommodate a thousand people, suddenly having twenty more means Yuan Cheng already has sixty thousand troops.

“If I didn’t see it wrong, Beishuo Town’s city wall should have had a Nightmare Monster’s corpse mixed in, with the Xia Army’s silver crossbow arrows and torches appearing, that city wall didn’t fulfill any role from start to finish. In terms of city defense, your Yangqu probably can’t even match half of Beishuo, not to mention the strength difference is several times, there’s no hope, Lord Cao, face reality!”

Upon hearing Cai Qiuhu’s last words, Cao Qianyang’s pupils filled with despair, his face completely darkened.

Though he understood Cai Qiuhu was completely correct, no matter what, he couldn’t bring himself to say they would evacuate the town.

The officials in Yangqu saw Cao Qianyang’s expression, apparently they already understood his intention, the entire hall fell into silence, everyone wore expressions of sorrow.

However, soon someone spoke up.

Cao Qianyang’s son, Yangqu Town Chief Cao Yuankang, was the first to stand up, extremely agitated, he spoke with anger.

“Father, our Yangqu has been established in the Southern Slope for over a hundred years, why should we fear Great Xia? To just hand over the town, I absolutely do not agree!”

As Cao Yuankang spoke, someone was immediately affected and joined in.

“The Town Chief is right, Yangqu’s hundred-year foundation, how can it be handed over so easily? Even if we truly can’t stop the Xia Army, I still want to take a bite out of them.”

“This town hill was built brick by brick by our Yangqu ancestors, we cannot let the Xia Army take it so easily. Lord, I am willing to coexist with the town, we will not retreat…”

……

Hearing the statements from his son and the subordinates, Cao Qianyang clenched his fists, a flush rose on his face, clearly affected as well, he even stood up, evidently planning to declare his stance.

Yet, Cai Qiuhu interrupted at this moment.

“Lord Cao, as long as Qingshan remains, there’s no fear of lacking firewood to burn. Among the Northern Five Towns, isn’t there still Jin Mountain and Wuchuan? If you retreat temporarily, who knows what changes might occur later?”

Cao Qianyang heard the words, his expression slightly condensed, his pupils instantly filled with rich joy, he spoke with a slightly excited tone: “Little Landgrave Cai means…”

“Chu Tianxu was humiliated by Xia Hong, how could he rest easy? No need to rush, just follow my advice. A month’s time is enough for you to empty the town treasury, leave some tricks in the city, maybe the town will soon be regained…”

Cai Qiuhu’s words reassured Cao Qianyang and the Yangqu high-ranking, their thoughts immediately became active, and they began engaging in a new round of discussion.
