Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1907: Abyss Pearl and Prasyx’s request

Adam had many goals at the Gray Sea and the Grand Abyss. He had to find the Bottomless Void and determine Breydar’s current location to carry out the assassination order he had agreed to.

It seemed he shouldn’t have wasted time searching for the Abyss Pearl, since even Prasyx himself had said it wasn’t necessary.

But if Adam had the opportunity to obtain the Abyss Pearl, he should take advantage of it, and Ergander clearly knew quite a lot about it and could help Adam with information.

At least, that was Adam’s reasoning.

“Abyss Pearl…?” Ergander asked again.

Adam nodded.

“Huh, it’s not the rarest pearl, but finding it won’t be easy. They practically never appear in the Light Field, since the most important condition for their formation is great depth.”

Then, Ergander glanced at Adam.

“So, is the Abyss Pearl the reason you came here?”

In response, Adam shook his head.

“No, Prasyx asked me to do this. He said that if I happened to stumble upon one, I should bring it to him.”

“Huh… He really is strange…” Ergander smiled bitterly. “I mean, something like that could certainly happen, but the chances of it are extremely slim.”

Ergander took a sip of tea with a casual wave of his hand:

“Even if the Abyss Pearl were to appear somewhere in the Light Field soon, you wouldn’t be the only one who’d want to get it, that’s for sure. I can see you’ve been through a lot of battles, but I think you realize you don’t stand a chance against the powerful monsters here.”

Adam fell into thought as his gaze grew more pensive.

“Yeah… I suppose you’re right. Well, maybe that’s exactly why he said it would only happen if I was lucky enough to find it.”

Ergander shrugged.

“Well, there’s one more way, to head out from the Dark Field. There, you’ll easily find the Abyss Pearl if you look in the particularly deep spots. But, hahaha! We all know that’s impossible at your level! Even I wouldn’t do that just for those pearls!”

To Ergander, it was just a silly suggestion, a joke, but something in his words made Adam’s eyes freeze.

‘Huh… maybe that’s exactly how it is, and it’s impossible for me right now. But why did Prasyx even mention it if he knew I’d have to go to the Dark Field for that? He’s acting like a fool, but… he doesn’t seem like he’s actually stupid…’

For a moment, Adam frowned before turning his attention to other matters.

He still had a lot to learn while he had the chance.

“So, from what I understand, most of the Pearls are in the Dark Field, but even for the Ascended Lords, that place is dangerous, right?” Adam decided to clarify.

In fact, among the hundreds of billions of monsters filling this world, the Ascended Lords were practically the strongest of them all.

Only the True Lords stood above the Ascended Lords. And there weren’t that many of them in the entire world.

It wasn’t a tiny percentage of a hundred billion, but of a much larger number of monsters.

Ordinary monsters, both weak and strong, were born and died in an endless cycle. During a single World Wipe, countless generations of monsters came and went, not just one hundred billion, but more than a trillion monsters.

At the same time, the True Lords could easily live for thousands of years, accumulating their power and traveling the world.

By the time even a single new True Lord appeared in the world, a total of more than a trillion monsters would have been born and died.

These raw numbers clearly demonstrated just how rare the True Lords were and how much time, resources, and talent were required for another such warrior to appear in the world.

At the same time, the True Lords rarely died. For a True Lord to perish, a deadly battle between at least two True Lords had to take place. This was a great rarity even in the most brutal conflicts.

Sip.

Ergander took a sip of tea and nodded deeply.

“Yes. The Dark Field isn’t so dangerous that the other Ascended Lords or I are afraid to go down there, but… we’d prefer not to do so if possible. Even at the Light Field, battles and incidents happen all the time.”

After a deep sigh, Ergander continued:

“So, it turns out to be a rather complicated situation. Everyone wants to get the Pearls, and there are quite a few of them in the Dark Field, but no one wants to take the risk of going down there. At the same time, there are very few Pearls in the Light Field, and most of the monsters stay here and compete for them.”

Adam nodded as he took a cookie. He broke off half. The taste was quite simple, sweet and slightly salty. But what more could one need at a moment like this?

The view right in front of Adam made the taste several times better.

“I see. Looks like Prasyx won’t be getting his Abyss Pearl.”

“Hahaha! Yeah, you’re right. If he wants it that badly, he’ll have to come down here himself. Someone like him would have a pretty good chance of getting one.”

Silence.

For a while, none of them said a word, and only the gentle breezes swept past Ergander’s house.

After all, it was a nice spot with a great view. It was quiet here, and it was unlikely anyone would dare disturb a monster as powerful as Ergander.

“So…” Adam’s voice broke the silence. “What about the Befallen Crown? Remembering what you said at the very beginning, I should be wary of them and take the threat they pose more seriously, right?”

Ergander nodded deeply.

“Indeed. I know you’ve already been to all the lands, that’s commendable, to be sure, but you’re also one of the Befallen Crown’s most sought-after targets. I’ve heard about you, Adam. The Befallen Crown has tried to kill you several times.”

“Yes.” Adam didn’t deny it. “But, as you can see, I’m still alive, and here I am, drinking tea with you.”

Ergander smiled bitterly as a glint flashed across his eyes.

“But you won’t deny that this isn’t entirely your own doing, will you?”

“Hmm?”

Ergander narrowed his green eyes.

“What will you do if there’s no one left to protect you? What will happen then?”
