Empire Rising: Spain

Chapter 97: Chapter 90: The Vision for a University

Looking at the demonstration device of the generator and motor he made with his own hands, Graham couldn’t help but shed tears.

As an explorer in the power industry, Graham devoted his entire life to electricity experiments, constantly thinking about achieving results in his electrical research.

The results are now here, yet they were born because of a few words from Carlo, which left Graham with many emotions.

“Your Majesty, you are the true hero of the electric power industry. If electricity is fortunate enough to be adopted by countries worldwide, you will play a crucial role in human progress and world development,” Grambo said to Carlo with some emotion.

“No, this is not my credit.” Carlo shook his head, attributing the achievement to Graham and a group of electricity researchers: “This is the result of your hard work. I just provided an idea.

If it weren’t for your long-term research in the power industry and the creation of generators for experiments, my idea would ultimately just be an idea.

Mr. Graham, all the researchers who participated in this experiment, you are the heroes of human progress.

To celebrate the new achievements in electric experiments, I will organize a celebration banquet for you, and each of you will receive a check from the Royal Bank.

Gentlemen, please keep up the good work. I will not neglect your contributions, and Spain will not forget your efforts!”

Carlo’s speech gained the favor of everyone in the laboratory. Besides, the numbers on the check represent real silver, and even these researchers, whose salaries had already increased significantly, couldn’t bear to refuse.

Moreover, they had no reason to refuse since Carlo credited them with all the achievements, and they quickly became heroes of Spain.

For these researchers, Carlo continued to use the method of winning people’s hearts.

After all, they came all the way from France to Spain, and Carlo would not treat these researchers who were willing to join Spanish nationality badly.

After encouraging the researchers at the Electricity Laboratory again, Carlo walked out with great satisfaction and went to the adjacent Engine Laboratory to check on the progress.

Since he was already inspecting the experimental area, he might as well look at both laboratories and see Benz and their progress on engine experiments.

The Engine Laboratory was much quieter compared to the Electricity Laboratory since it only had less than one-sixth of the employees there.

However, Benz, Daimler, and Maybach, who worked in the Engine Laboratory, were well-known figures in later generations, and Carlo’s expectations for the Engine Laboratory were almost as high as for the Electricity Laboratory.

After all, the engine’s usage is quite extensive. Besides common transportation tools like airplanes and cars, it can also be used in agricultural machinery such as tractors and military weapons like fighter planes and tanks.

If engine research goes well, it will provide enormous help in both civilian and military fields in the future. Although Carlo didn’t expect Benz and the others to develop particularly powerful engines, as long as they could stay at the forefront of global engine research or maintain a top-three level, it would meet Carlo’s expectations.

More engine talents will emerge subsequently, and Carlo plans to recruit them one by one then.

Currently, like electricity, the engine is in its initial stage, and even renowned engine developers like Diesel are only in their teens now.

Walking straight into the Engine Laboratory, Benz and the others quickly noticed Carlo.

“Your Majesty!” They all saluted, unable to hide the surprise on their faces.

“The Electricity Laboratory has made progress, so I’m here to see your research,” Carlo said with a smile.

Upon hearing this, Benz and the others immediately felt a sense of urgency. Both the Electricity Laboratory and the Engine Laboratory were established at the same time, and they arrived in Spain just a few days apart.

But within those few days, the Electricity Laboratory had already made progress, enough to amaze Carlo.

Meanwhile, at the Engine Laboratory, they were still intensely engaged in research and design, clearly lagging behind the Electricity Laboratory.

“Your Majesty, our four-stroke engine is already under design and experimentation. It is expected that relevant prototypes will enter experiments within two years, and a relatively refined four-stroke engine will begin testing within five years,” Benz quickly reported the progress of the Engine Laboratory.

“Four-stroke engine?” Carlo asked.

“Yes, the four-stroke engine will consist of four piston strokes: intake, compression, power, and exhaust.

In our conception, if such a four-stroke engine is realized, the thermal efficiency could increase from 11% of atmospheric engines to over 13%, effectively reducing the engine’s mass and volume.

If such an engine becomes a reality, we might be able to explore vehicle improvements based on it,” Daimler continued to introduce.

The four-stroke engine research was something Daimler and Maybach had already begun in Germany.

The so-called thermal efficiency is also easy to understand, as it can be seen as the ratio of the engine’s output power to the input fuel.
