Dragon Monarch System

Chapter 1261: Chapter 1261:- War Trumpets

Just as Aditya was observing the destruction below, he suddenly sensed someone approaching him from behind. He did not bother turning around because he immediately recognised the familiar aura.

A few seconds later, Athena flew over and stopped beside him. Although she had suffered serious injuries earlier, her condition had already improved considerably. Her wounds were recovering, and she was now able to move around without much difficulty.

Athena stood beside Aditya in the air and slowly looked down at the battlefield. From their current position, they could clearly see the enormous craters left behind by his attacks and the large areas where the Emperor Faction’s soldiers had been completely wiped out.

For a few moments, Athena remained silent while observing the destruction.

”You almost did everything.” Athena finally said while looking at Aditya.

Hearing those words, Aditya simply chuckled without saying anything in response.

Although Athena’s words were somewhat exaggerated, they were not entirely wrong. Aditya had personally killed an enormous number of enemy soldiers, destroyed a large portion of their backline, and forced the Emperor Faction into an extremely difficult position.

His performance on the battlefield had left a very deep impression on everyone who had witnessed it. This included not only the soldiers and commanders from both factions but also the powerful nobles who had chosen to support Aditya in this civil war.

Before today, many of these nobles had already heard stories about Aditya’s strength and achievements. They knew that he was the Dragon Monarch, the Emperor of the Istarin Empire, and someone who had accomplished many incredible things despite his young age.

However, hearing about someone’s strength and personally witnessing it were two completely different things. After watching Aditya destroy almost one hundred thousand enemy soldiers within just a few minutes, even the most powerful nobles supporting him were left completely stunned.

They had never imagined that a Beginner Sixth Order cultivator could possess such terrifying destructive power. More importantly, Aditya had once again demonstrated just how ruthless and decisive he could be when dealing with his enemies. He had not hesitated for even a second before launching his attacks, nor had he shown any mercy toward the soldiers fighting against him.

For the nobles supporting him, this was both reassuring and frightening.

It was reassuring because they knew that they had chosen to support an extremely powerful individual who had a very high chance of winning the civil war. However, it was also frightening because they now understood just how dangerous Aditya could become if they ever decided to betray him or stand against him.

From now on, these nobles would have to be extremely careful when dealing with Aditya. They could no longer look at him as merely a talented young Emperor who had managed to build a powerful empire on the Six Continents.

He was also an extremely powerful cultivator who could personally destroy an enormous army if he wanted to. ”All these things that you did today will perfectly build up your image as a ruthless and decisive Emperor.” Athena said while continuing to look at the battlefield below.

Aditya slowly nodded his head after hearing her words. He understood exactly what Athena meant. His actions today would not only help the Anti-Emperor Faction win the battle but would also send a very clear message to every noble and powerful faction watching this civil war.

They would understand that Aditya was not someone who could be easily threatened, controlled, or manipulated. ”I am ruthless to my enemies, and I am kind to my own people. Those who stand with me will prosper, and those who go against me will sink to the bottom of the abyss. It’s as simple as that.” Aditya replied calmly while looking down at the battlefield.

Athena turned her head and looked at him for a few seconds before a small smile appeared on her face.

”But beyond that, you are our dear husband. Don’t ever forget that.”

Hearing this, Aditya’s expression softened as a small smile appeared on his face. ”More than anything in this world, I love my wives the most, and that will never change.”

Just as Aditya and Athena were watching the battlefield from above, they suddenly heard the loud sound of war trumpets coming from the Emperor Faction’s main camp. The sound was very different from the trumpets that had been used earlier to signal attacks or changes in formation. This time, the trumpets were being blown in a specific pattern, and the sound continued spreading across the enormous battlefield.

Hearing the familiar sound, Aditya and Athena immediately exchanged a look. Both of them understood what it meant. The Emperor Faction had finally decided to retreat.

”It seems your cousin has finally understood that he has lost this first battle. Continuing to fight will only increase his casualties even further.” Athena said while looking toward the Emperor Faction’s camp in the distance.

Aditya smiled faintly after hearing her words. He slowly turned his attention toward the enemy soldiers below, many of whom had already started reacting to the sound of the retreat trumpets. Some soldiers looked relieved, while others appeared confused and frightened. After fighting for so many hours and witnessing the enormous destruction caused by Aditya’s attacks, many of them had already lost their desire to continue fighting.

”Well, let’s increase his casualties even more.” Aditya replied with a cold smile.

Athena immediately understood what he was thinking. Although the Emperor Faction had issued an order to retreat, that did not mean all of their soldiers could simply turn around and leave the battlefield whenever they wanted.

In fact, retreating from such a large battle was an extremely difficult task, especially when hundreds of thousands of soldiers were still fighting against each other.

The soldiers stationed at the back had a much easier time following the retreat order. Since they were not directly fighting against the Anti-Emperor Faction’s soldiers, they could immediately begin moving toward their main camp. As long as their commanders maintained order, these soldiers could withdraw without facing too much danger.

However, the situation was completely different for the soldiers fighting at the front.

These soldiers were still engaged in fierce battles against their enemies. Some were fighting in groups, while others were facing one or more opponents at close range. Their weapons were constantly clashing, and both sides were still trying to kill each other.

For these soldiers, simply hearing the retreat trumpets did not mean they could immediately turn around and run away.

If a soldier suddenly turned his back on an enemy who was standing directly in front of him, he would be giving that enemy a perfect opportunity to attack. Even a moment of carelessness could result in a sword piercing his back or a spear striking him before he could take more than a few steps.

For this reason, the soldiers at the front had to find a suitable opening before they could retreat. Some would have to push their opponents backwards, while others would have to defeat or kill the enemies standing in their way. Those fighting in groups would need to work together to create enough distance between themselves and the Anti-Emperor Faction’s soldiers.

Furthermore, their commanders would have to organize the retreat carefully. If everyone suddenly tried to escape at the same time, their formations would immediately collapse, leaving large numbers of soldiers completely exposed to enemy attacks.

This was especially dangerous because the Anti-Emperor Faction was currently holding the advantage.

Their soldiers were still full of fighting spirit, while many soldiers from the Emperor Faction had already become exhausted and frightened. The enormous explosions caused by Aditya had badly damaged their morale, and the sound of the retreat trumpets only confirmed what many of them had already feared.

They had lost the battle. And now, their only remaining goal was to survive long enough to return to their camp. However, the Anti-Emperor Faction’s soldiers had absolutely no reason to make their retreat easy.

The moment the Emperor Faction’s soldiers began trying to withdraw, their opponents immediately increased the pressure on them. Whenever an enemy soldier tried to create some distance, the Anti-Emperor Faction’s soldiers would advance and attack again, preventing him from escaping easily.

In some areas, the Emperor Faction’s commanders ordered their soldiers to maintain defensive formations while slowly moving backward. The soldiers standing at the front raised their shields and continued fighting, allowing those behind them to retreat first.

However, these formations were extremely difficult to maintain because the Anti-Emperor Faction’s soldiers were constantly attacking them. Every time a soldier fell, a gap appeared in the defensive line, forcing the remaining soldiers to quickly close it before their enemies could break through.

In other areas, the retreat was far less organized. Some frightened soldiers immediately abandoned their positions after hearing the trumpets. They turned around and attempted to run toward their camp, leaving their companions behind to face the enemy alone.

Their sudden actions created confusion among the remaining soldiers. With fewer people protecting the front, the Anti-Emperor Faction’s troops quickly took advantage of the openings and began pushing forward.

The retreat order, which was supposed to save the Emperor Faction’s remaining soldiers, was now creating even more problems for those who were still trapped in the fighting.

Aditya watched everything from above with a calm expression. He could clearly see the difference between the organized groups that were slowly withdrawing and the frightened soldiers who were desperately trying to escape.

He also understood that this was one of the most dangerous moments for an army that had lost a battle.

As long as the soldiers continued fighting in proper formations, they could still protect one another and prevent the enemy from advancing too quickly. However, once those formations began breaking apart, even a powerful army could suffer enormous casualties during its retreat.

And right now, the Emperor Faction was already beginning to experience exactly that.

Athena also continued observing the situation carefully. As the Goddess of Wisdom, she understood that the retreating army was in an extremely weak position. If the Anti-Emperor Faction continued attacking while maintaining its own formations, they could increase the enemy’s losses without taking unnecessary risks.

The soldiers at the front were already struggling to escape, while the soldiers farther behind were trying to move away from the battlefield as quickly as possible. This created a growing distance between the two groups, making it increasingly difficult for the Emperor Faction’s commanders to organise an effective retreat.

The Anti-Emperor Faction’s soldiers continued advancing, refusing to give their enemies enough time to withdraw safely.
