Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 1242: Chapter 1241: Dark Region (IV)

Finally escaped!!

Once sure that no one was following and none of those pitch-black creatures were watching him, the Gray Dwarf finally let out a long sigh of relief. Just kidding, he really didn’t want to get involved in any bizarre situations. As he had mentioned to Fang Zheng, the atmosphere on the Dark Elves’ side has been strange lately. Although the Dark Elves have always been odd, this time it was noticeably eerie...

However, should he inform the Dark Elves?

Thinking of this, the Gray Dwarf couldn’t help but glance at the pocket at his waist, where he kept the Communication Stone for contacting the Elf Clan. If he could report this matter to the matriarch of the First Family, he would surely receive a handsome reward.

After all, he couldn’t stay out of it any longer; those Earth Beasts have his caravan’s mark, and the Dark Elves could easily detect something was wrong. Unless he never returned to that city, there was no way he could avoid it.

No, even not going to that city wouldn’t work. The Dark Elves can easily hide their tracks, find him, and then use their terrifying and cruel torture to render him unable to live nor die...

At the thought of the rumored painful penalties imposed by the Dark Elves, the Gray Dwarf couldn’t help but tremble. He seemed to make up his mind, reaching for his waist to take out the Communication Stone. However, at that moment, his fingers touched a pouch.

If he remembered correctly, this seemed to be the reward given to him by that human just now?

The Gray Dwarf carefully tapped the pouch and then slowly opened it. But after seeing what was inside, he fell into contemplation.

This is... an egg?

He initially thought there might be some precious gemstone or something inside the pouch, but to his surprise, it was an egg?

What’s going on?

Staring at the white egg, the Gray Dwarf didn’t know what to say for a moment. However, at that very moment, the giant egg before him suddenly started trembling, and then shattered with a crack, the broken shell rising and falling before him.

What on earth is inside this egg?

Out of curiosity, the Gray Dwarf extended his clumsy finger to poke the broken shell.

”Crack—!”

At this moment, the broken eggshell suddenly flew upward, and the Gray Dwarf saw a creature resembling a hand leap out of the eggshell, pounce on his face, and tightly cling to him!

”Mmm!! Mmm!!!”

The Gray Dwarf struggled desperately, waving his hands and shaking his head, trying to do something. But the next moment, he rolled off the Earth Beast, slamming into the nearby wall and falling silent.

Soon, a thick, dark yellow liquid flowed from the Facehugger’s mouth, pouring into the Gray Dwarf’s mouth. This liquid seemed to have a will of its own, slowly entering the depths of his nose and ears. If the Gray Dwarf’s body could be opened, it would reveal the dark yellow slime slowly enveloping his brain, twisting and trembling, merging with it...

”Huaa...”

Fang Zheng opened his eyes and yawned.

As the only and most important mode of transportation underground, riding on the back of an Earth Beast was still quite comfortable, but the monotonous journey was making everyone a bit drowsy.

”This underground world is so boring.”

Walnut hefted her shovel, glanced around, and complained.

”I heard those mercenaries at the tavern always saying how the Dark Region is super dangerous, full of all sorts of creatures, but we haven’t encountered anything at all, those guys must be bragging.”

”Strictly speaking, it’s not exactly bragging...”

Hearing Walnut’s complaint, Fang Zheng helplessly rolled his eyes. While Walnut couldn’t sense it, Fang Zheng could feel that the deeper they went, the more bizarre creatures they encountered. It was just that because he was exuding Dragon Might, these creatures from the Dark Region dared not approach and cause trouble.

In fact, just twenty minutes earlier, Fang Zheng sensed an underground worm passing 20 meters beneath their feet. If that worm hadn’t sensed Fang Zheng’s Dragon Might and chose to take a detour, they would have had no choice but to deal with a creature as large as an Empire Building lying on the ground.

”Calm down, Walnut.”

Perhaps because she had spent enough time with Walnut, Kurumi appeared very calm; she sat quietly on another Earth Beast, even having the leisure to pour herself a cup of tea from a teapot taken from the shadows.

”Mr. Fang Zheng isn’t taking us underground just for sightseeing; I’m sure we’ll experience plenty of excitement during the upcoming journey.”

”Dark Elves, right? I’m looking forward to it, too.”

Hearing this, Little Hei immediately jumped up.

”Big brother, are we going to wreck the place? Should I go first and give them a ’Spiral Sword’ straight up to the sky?”

”Do you intend to bury us in there as well?”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng sighed.

”This is underground, not the surface. Have you considered that a Spiral Sword might save us even the step of cremation?”

”Then what should we do? If there’s going to be a fight, count me in.”

”Don’t worry, there will definitely be fights for you, and you might not even win.”

If Fang Zheng’s guess was correct, and the Mother Spider was involved in this, then apart from Fang Zheng, others might not stand a chance against it.

But just at that moment, Akemi Homura suddenly turned her head, looking back.

”Master.”

”What’s wrong?”

”Someone’s coming.”

As Akemi spoke, everyone soon heard the urgent ”thud thud thud” of running from behind. Not long after, accompanied by the Radiance emerging from the dark tunnel, the Gray Dwarf, controlling the Earth Beast, appeared before Fang Zheng and the others once more.

”Why did you come back?”

Seeing the Gray Dwarf before her, Walnut widened her eyes in confusion, curiously staring at the Gray Dwarf who had rejoined the group. His attitude had just been as firm as ”over my dead body,” and he looked as though he had survived a great peril when he left. Why had he returned now?

”Ah, hahaha...”

At Walnut’s inquiry, the Gray Dwarf awkwardly chuckled.

”In fact, I suddenly remembered I still have some business to handle in that city. I was wondering if I could accompany you on the road? After all, all my guards are dead, and I can’t safely return alone...”

”Of course, there’s no problem.”

Seeing the Gray Dwarf return, Fang Zheng put on a gentle smile.

”In fact, we’re hoping someone can introduce us to the local culture and traditions.”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s words, the Gray Dwarf respectfully lowered his head this time.

”It is my honor... Master.”
