Chapter 1113: Chapter 1112: Where Are Shortcuts in This World

Fang Zheng was decisive, the very next morning, he took C.C to the island where the ruins were located.

”Is this it?”

Looking at the dilapidated cave before him, Fang Zheng’s expression was unchanged, while C.C nodded.

”Yes, this is it... In fact...”

She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but ultimately just sighed, saying nothing.

”Forget it, let’s go inside first.”

The entire cave was empty, only the abandoned instruments and cables scattered around bore witness to what once existed here. In this narrow cave, only directly ahead stood something that looked like a Stone Gate. C.C stepped forward, placing a hand on the Stone Gate, quickly, the strange lines on the gate glowed with red Radiance. She then extended her other hand towards Fang Zheng.

And without hesitation, Fang Zheng reached out and grasped her hand.

In the next moment, a mysterious force seized Fang Zheng’s body, compelling him to leave this space.

When Fang Zheng opened his eyes again, he was already in a completely different space.

As if suspended at the pinnacle of clouds in the center of the Sanctuary, a tall man stood there.

”You have finally come, C.C.”

The tall man looked at C.C and spoke, then he turned his gaze to Fang Zheng.

”Is this man your Contractor?”

”Yes.”

Confronted with the man’s question, C.C nodded.

”Oh...”

Upon hearing C.C’s reply, the man narrowed his eyes, revealing a curious expression.

”You dare to appear before me; is it because you’ve already made a decision? Or is it that your Contractor gives you the courage to appear here?”

”...Honestly, I don’t know if this is correct either.”

C.C replied quietly and then looked at Fang Zheng.

”Fang Zheng, this is Charles D.I. Britannia.”

”I see.”

Upon hearing C.C’s introduction, Fang Zheng glanced at her and then turned his head to look once again at the man in front of him.

”You’re the culprit planning to annihilate humanity, aren’t you?”

”Though I don’t know how that Witch described us to you, we are not aiming to destroy this world.”

Facing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, Charles answered.

”We just want to end the world’s tragedy, to set everything back on the right track.”

”Oh...”

Confronting Charles’ response, Fang Zheng scoffed lightly.

”Then what is your version of correctness? Besides, who decided you’re correct? Is it a god? Or a Demon?”

”It’s decided by us!”

Charles coldly stared at Fang Zheng, his expression unchanged.

”We are humans, we decide our own path; is that wrong? This world is filled with tragedy, we want to end it all. It’s because humans lie, hide their hearts, isolate from others, that causes all these tragedies. War, fighting, endlessly sad cycles, we want to put an end to them.”

As he spoke, Charles extended both his hands.

”Then, what is your choice?”

”My choice?”

Upon Charles’ question, Fang Zheng showed a trace of mocking smile.

”Who gave you the courage to have me choose?”

Staring at the man before him, Fang Zheng slowly walked forward.

”Have you ever taken a test, His Imperial Majesty? An average person needs to go through a painful process for exams, study first, then review, only then can they answer the questions. Of course, you can’t score full marks every time. But that’s quite normal; life is like that. It’s normal for humans to feel pain and sadness due to mutual misunderstanding, even various tragedies arise, just like it’s normal you can’t always get full marks.”

Saying this, Fang Zheng’s tone gradually grew cold.

”However, this is life, this is the Truth of this world; everyone needs to face a paper, and hand in their own answer. Yet, you want to cheat with high-tech?”

Fang Zheng raised his head again, his eyes now transformed into golden yellow vertical pupils.

”Do you really think the examination hall has no invigilators?”

”You... who exactly are you?”

As Fang Zheng’s Dragon Might unfolded recklessly, Charles finally felt a powerful pressure. Only his pride as the Emperor of the Britannian Empire supported him, allowing Charles to withstand Fang Zheng’s Dragon Might and not collapse. Even so, Charles’s face was still pale, with sweat all over his stiff expression.

”You don’t need to know who I am.”

Fang Zheng silently raised his right hand and conjured a Pitch Black Greatsword out of thin air.

”You only need to know that cheating warrants punishment. Unfortunately, you’ve already been expelled from the examination hall.”

”Heh heh heh, hahaha...”

Yet, in response to Fang Zheng’s words, Charles tilted his head back and laughed heartily.

”You want to kill me? Do you think you can kill me?”

While speaking, Charles removed his gloves and showed his right palm to Fang Zheng and C.C.—on his palm was a ”V”-shaped emblem, similar to the one on C.C.’s forehead, as if it were about to take flight.

”This is...!”

Seeing this symbol, C.C. was immediately taken aback.

”Charles, you stole V.V’s CODE?!”

”That’s right.”

Faced with C.C.’s inquiry, Charles proudly nodded, while Fang Zheng curiously glanced at C.C., standing behind him, waiting for her explanation. Noticing Fang Zheng’s gaze, C.C. took a sharp breath and began to explain.

”A CODE holder is like me. Although they have no special powers, they can be ageless and immortal, and form contracts with others to obtain GEASS. However, when a GEASS holder reaches their limit, they can kill the CODE holder to obtain the CODE, thus becoming ageless and immortal. Besides, GEASS is ineffective against CODE holders...”

”That’s why you signed a contract with me back then.”

Upon hearing this, Fang Zheng immediately understood, and C.C. remained silent—she hadn’t expected to encounter such an oddball like Fang Zheng...

Now C.C. wasn’t sure if this was good or bad.

”Just as well, let you witness it with your own eyes.”

Fang Zheng’s expression remained unchanged, looking at Charles as if he were observing a lab mouse on an experiment table.

”As the saying goes, seeing is believing. Let me showcase my strength, and you’ll feel more assured.”

Listening to Fang Zheng calmly converse with C.C., Charles was left puzzled as he stood there.

”... What are you talking about...?”

But before Charles could finish, Fang Zheng’s Pitch Black Greatsword suddenly thrust forward, piercing through Charles’s chest. Charles’s towering frame, easily over two meters, wobbled before regaining its footing. He looked at Fang Zheng standing before him and displayed a mocking smile.

”It’s useless. You can’t kill me at all. Whether by gun or sword, you can’t kill me anymore!”

Witnessing this, C.C. couldn’t help but bow her head and sigh.

However, faced with Charles’s smugness, Fang Zheng’s expression still did not change.

”Oh, is that so.”

”Whoosh—!”

Following Fang Zheng’s words, suddenly, crimson flames erupted from the sword, swiftly engulfing Charles’s body.

”What, what is this?”

”I’ve killed many immortal beings.”

Fang Zheng swung the sword out, taking a step back, leisurely watching Charles before him.

”Ancient Gods, Kings of Salary, which of them aren’t much stronger than you? Yet, with your feeble strength, even if you’re immortal, you’re among the weakest... To be honest, I hadn’t intended to waste the Primordial Fire, but now... I might as well burn you up.”

”What, what is this?!”

Charles desperately beat the flames consuming him, yet to no avail. He could feel the searing flames methodically devouring his body and soul, filling Charles with an indescribable terror.

”What is this? What have you done to me? No... ugh ahhh!!”

The flames intensified, and in a mere blink, the towering figure of the Britannian Empire’s emperor became a human torch, staggering and trying to escape. But before he could take two steps, his legs were charred, snapping with a ”crack” and turning to dust. Charles’s whole body collapsed heavily on the ground, scattering a spray of sparks.

”No... ah... no... my... our...!!”

The flames rose ever higher, and the charred body within the blaze gradually stopped struggling. In the end, as the sound faded away, Charles’s body, along with his soul, was incinerated thoroughly, leaving not a trace.

”Thus, you see, killing an immortal being is actually quite simple.”

Looking at the ashes before him, Fang Zheng pouted, then turned to gaze at C.C.

”How about it? Do you want to try as well?”
