23: Chapter 23 An Alternative Version of Blood RebirthLin Sheng had been feeling a bit itchy lately.

After dealing with that large lake, he didn’t head for the ocean but continued to wander through the rainforest.

However, his wandering centered around that raised earthen mound.

Because Lin Sheng still had to go to the vicinity of the mound from time to time to ”exercise.”

But over the past two days, as the effects of his exercise became increasingly ”significant,” Lin Sheng was surprised to find that no creature dared to approach within a hundred-meter radius of him.

This significantly reduced Lin Sheng’s hunting efficiency.

Not only that, but even the ground where he used to stay frequently began to show signs of withering.

Lin Sheng was completely baffled by this.

Until today.

Lin Sheng lay coiled not far from the mound as usual, his claws occasionally scratching his itchy body.

He didn’t know if it was an illusion, but Lin Sheng always felt that the spot he was scratching felt ”fuzzy” and ”slimy.”

Lin Sheng turned his head.

”Roar!”

A shrill, miserable howl echoed through the rainforest, scaring all creatures within a ten-mile radius into fleeing in all directions.

Looking at the downy tentacles covering his entire body, Lin Sheng was momentarily at a loss.

Looking closely, he found these tentacles were even more terrifying than those on the previous Tentacled Tyrannosaurus.

At least the tentacles on that thing didn’t have pustules.

But what about Lin Sheng?

If he scratched even a little, those pustules would frantically spray out some viscous stuff.

Seeing the ”miserable state” of his body, Lin Sheng immediately questioned the system:

”dog system, didn’t you say those tentacles wouldn’t have much of an impact on my body?”

”You call this f*cking ’not much of an impact’?!”

Lin Sheng almost roared these words out.

After speaking, Lin Sheng’s mood couldn’t calm down for a long time.

He waited angrily for the system’s reply.

[Ding]

[When this system said there wouldn’t be much impact, it was on the premise that the Host was in a normal situation.]

[In a normal environment, ”chaotic information” naturally wouldn’t affect the Host.]

[But since the Host insisted on seeking death, there’s nothing this system can do~]

Hearing the system’s gloating voice, which sounded as if it had loaded an ”emotional module,” Lin Sheng’s teeth itched with hatred.

”dog system, where have I been seeking death these past two days?”

”Besides staying here to exercise, I haven’t gone anywhere else, alright?”

[Hehe.]

The system gave a cold laugh.

[You are truly basking in radiation without even knowing it.]

[Staying next to a radiation source for so many days, what is that if not seeking death?]

[If ”Immortal Consciousness” hadn’t lessened your mental agony, you would have gone mad long ago.]

”You’re saying this hilltop is a radiation source?!”

Hearing this, Lin Sheng’s voice rose several octaves.

”dog system, why didn’t you tell me sooner!”

”If you had told me earlier, would I have been stupid enough to stay here all these days?”

[Ding]

[Host, you didn’t ask.]

”In other words, you do have a notification function, don’t you?”

Lin Sheng’s tone changed, and he suddenly revealed a smile of a successful scheme.

System: ...

Darn, I got played by this honest-looking fellow.

Seeing the system not answering, Lin Sheng pressed further:

”System, speak up. Do you have this function or not?”

[Ding]

[No]

At this moment, the system reverted to its usual emotionless mechanical voice.

Hearing the system’s voice become cold again, Lin Sheng didn’t press any further.

At least now he could be certain that the system wasn’t some emotionless, dead thing.

Knowing this, Lin Sheng’s room for maneuver became much larger.

At least before every lucky draw, shouting ”system grandfather” would no longer be a futile effort.

Suddenly, Lin Sheng shuddered.

He stood up abruptly, moving away from this contaminated land.

The system had just said this place was a disaster area of nuclear pollution; if he stayed any longer, there was no telling what he might mutate into.

Whether it was an illusion or not, Lin Sheng felt an inexplicable sense of relief in his body after leaving the hilltop area.

”Whew.”

Flying in mid-air, Lin Sheng let out a long breath.

He probably couldn’t stay in the rainforest now. He was more or less a radiation source himself; wandering through the rainforest would be a blow to its ecology.

It wasn’t that Lin Sheng had found his conscience and didn’t want to harm the rainforest.

The main thing was that the creatures here were all avoiding him. Even creatures larger than him, as long as they had brains, would try to stay as far away as possible upon seeing him.

Under these circumstances, it had become very difficult for Lin Sheng to capture food.

Therefore, Lin Sheng had to embark on a journey of exploration once again.

However, this time Lin Sheng didn’t opt for long-duration flight.

This time, he ate his way through, forcibly carving a path through the rainforest.

After an unknown number of days like this, Lin Sheng had devoured nearly a hundred thousand evolution points.

[Ding]

[Host meets the conditions for Evolution. Do you wish to evolve?]

The sudden system notification gave Lin Sheng’s dull mood a jolt.

He hurriedly asked the system:

”System, for this Evolution, can I evolve Chloroplasts?”

[The Host’s Evolution direction is selected from the high-quality genes of the Host’s intake; the Evolution direction is not influenced by the system.]

”Speak plain English.”

Lin Sheng: ...

Lin Sheng was momentarily speechless.

He felt that the system definitely knew something; otherwise, it would have said ”I don’t know” instead of ”No comment.”

...

Upon receiving the message that he could evolve, Lin Sheng didn’t choose to evolve immediately but flew for another half-day.

It wasn’t until he saw a streak of earthy yellow on the horizon that he slowed down his flight.

On the rainforest-dominated Pangaea Continent, desert terrain was indeed hard to find.

Lin Sheng put in his full effort and flew for more than half a day before finding such a desert.

Flying into the depths of the desert in one go, Lin Sheng found a comfortable position and lay prone on the sand.

”System, begin Evolution.”

[Ding]

[This Evolution will consume 5 of this planet’s solar days. Host, please wait patiently.]

With that, the system fell silent, and Lin Sheng began his deep sleep.

...

Five days later, Lin Sheng slowly climbed up from the ground.

Immediately, he focused his attention on the talent column of the system panel.

After searching for a bit, a slight sense of disappointment rose in Lin Sheng’s heart.

But when he saw the full content of the new talent, his disappointment vanished instantly.

Regeneration Cells (Natural Grade): Your lost body parts can achieve rapid regeneration by replenishing energy.

(Note: Because you possess ”Immortal Consciousness,” your consciousness is not dependent on your brain; therefore, your brain can also regenerate rapidly.)
