Death… And Me

Chapter 1058 - Fairies?

Langaraʼs killing intent ended up fading away after that, though. ”Forget it. Iʼm not the ungrateful type. However, for your own good, you better keep your mouth shut about this issue. You simply donʼt understand what kind of trouble you would get into if others find out what race Iʼm a part of.”

Rean and Roan nodded in response. ”Thatʼs fine for us. At least we know whatʼs going on.”

Fatax, however, couldnʼt help but ask, ”Why are you still willing to help us, then? From what the ancestor just said, you should know better to stay far away from us.”

Rean then took a blue token from his robe and showed them. Immediately, Fatax and Langaraʼs expressions changed as both of them exclaimed, ” Youʼre part of the Kamos Royal Family!”

Well, it wasnʼt as if they were really part of the Kamos Royal Family. However, Rean didnʼt try to correct their misunderstandings. ”If it really comes to that, we can simply show this, and your clan will have to think twice on whether they should touch us or not. Simply put, donʼt worry about us. Weʼre just having some fun during our travel.”

”Some...fun.” Somehow, neither Langara nor Fatax thought they were joking. ”No wonder you donʼt have much interest in Divine Stones. Resources probably arenʼt a problem for you two.”

After that, Rean contacted Sister Orb and asked her, ʼSister Orb, do you know what kind of race has this Soul Succession ability?ʼ

[And I thought you would never ask. There are three races that come to mind. The first is the Ascesfe Race, the second is the Ogram Race, and the last one is the Loral Race. All three of them are extremely rare due to their special ability to pass their souls into their offspringʼs bodies.]

ʼIs there any difference between the three?ʼ Roan asked soon after.

[There are. The Ascesfe Race, for example, needs to consume the hostʼs soul to take over. Obviously, Langara isnʼt part of this race as the bodiesʼ owners eventually take them back. The Ogram Race, on the other hand, swaps bodies. Simply put, they send the young soul away from the body and take the young body for themselves.]

Rean and Roan nodded, with Rean saying, ʼThen, there is only one race left, the Loral Race.ʼ

[Not exactly. What Iʼm saying is that I only know these three. How long has it been since Soul Gem left this half of the universe? How many races have appeared during this time? How many fell? Itʼs impossible to tell. Anyways, the Loral Race was kind of obscure. Other than the fact they can pass their soul to their offspring, I donʼt know anything else. Perhaps Langara is part of the Loral Race. Perhaps she isnʼt. Itʼs not like they went around announcing their abilities, after all.]

The twins nodded, satisfied with Sister Orbʼs words. ʼThatʼs enough for now.ʼ

Roan then changed the topic to something he was more curious about. ”Thereʼs one thing I donʼt understand. Arenʼt you the matriarch of the clan? The one who started it all? Shouldnʼt you be in control of everything? How come part of your clan is after you?”

Langara looked away, not willing to speak much about it.

Rean pondered over it a bit before saying, ”Hmm...I guess weʼre forgetting something here, Roan.”

Roanʼs interest was piqued as he looked at Rean, asking him, ”What is it?”

”Unless youʼre some kind of hermaphrodite, you need a man and a woman to reproduce, donʼt you think?” Rean said in response.

Langaraʼs eyes slightly twitched when she heard Reanʼs words, which was more than enough for Roan. ”I see...half of the clan supports the matriarch. As for the other half, they support the husband she chose back then. I wonder if the guy is still alive.”

Roan then glanced a moment at Langara before adding a few more words. ”Or perhaps, I wonder why the matriarch would have to transfer her soul to the next generation if the husband is still alive. If she had cultivated normally, she shouldnʼt have such a-”

”Shut up!” With those words, Langara finally exploded. ”This has nothing to do with you! Donʼt touch on someoneʼs feelings as if itʼs some kind of entertainment. If you say another word about this issue, then we might as well separate here. Itʼs not like you really need the reward I could give you anyway!”

Rean and Roan looked at each other and nodded. Soon after, Rean smiled at Langara. ”Oh well, it definitely has nothing to do with us. Whether we know about your past and what brought you to this situation matters little to us. In any case, we will accept the reward once we reach Giliga.”

Rean then looked at Roan, asking him, ”By the way, are there more enemies ahead?”

Roan nodded in response. ”There are. Their main force was set before the demon beastsʼ territory and just after entering it. From what that guy confessed, there seems to be a total of 20 hunters sent by the opposition. Of course, three of them died in our hands, and those three were tasked with keeping track of Langara until she got to the demon beastsʼ territory. There, they would attack and capture her.”

It was then that Fatax remembered something Rean had commented. ”Oh, right! You did mention that if you wanted to, we would never have been found by the hunters of the Talan Clan, right? Was that true?”

Rean smiled at him. ”Yep. Very true.”

Fatax couldnʼt help but ask, ”Can you do it now, then? If we can avoid the enemies until Giliga City, we would obviously be much safer.”

Rean then asked back. ”And whereʼs the fun in that?”

”This...” Fatax felt like crying. ”Donʼt you have somewhere else to go as well? Is it okay to delay it as you fight our battles?”

Rean had to admit he was right. ”Oh, thatʼs true. I almost forgot our main objective due to the recent events.” Rean then looked at Roan. ”What do you think?”

Roan also wanted to know what that fairy connected to them was about. ”Indeed. Weʼve already gotten our fair share of action against those guys a while ago. If everyone else is at the same level as Langara mentioned, then thereʼs no point in fighting them. Letʼs go see the fairies.”

Langaraʼs eyes widened when she heard those words. ”Did you just say....fairies?”
