Chapter 379: Chapter 227: Taming the Eagle

”Even if he did run into a Tier Four Demon, he has the Wind and Thunder Wings. He could escape even if he couldn’t fight it.

Besides, Ao Qing has already gone back to find him.

There’s no way he could be in trouble!”

Although Xu Chongyuan didn’t know what tier of demon Ao Qing was, he knew it was at least Tier Five.

”I didn’t say Captain Su was in trouble.”

Yang Changfeng said, ”I searched that area myself and found no trace of Captain Su. Perhaps he left in another direction, it’s hard to say.”

”He knows we’re at Hujue Pass. If he left, why wouldn’t he come find us?”

Xu Chongyuan’s eyes were slightly bloodshot as he spoke in a low voice.

Yang Changfeng sighed. He naturally understood this logic as well.

Before returning, he had held onto a sliver of hope, thinking Su Mu might have already returned to Hujue Pass.

Now, it seemed that Su Mu was, in all likelihood, in trouble.

”He might be injured and waiting for rescue. I have to find him!”

With that, Xu Chongyuan picked up his saber and started walking out of Hujue Pass.

”I’ll go with you.”

Shi Ziran followed without a moment’s hesitation.

”You two—”

Yang Changfeng wanted to dissuade them, but he didn’t know what to say.

”Zhang Wangyue, go with them. Protect them, and don’t let anything happen to them.”

Yang Changfeng sighed and said.

He had just returned from the wildlands and was exhausted, unfit to venture out again.

He could only have Zhang Wangyue accompany Xu Chongyuan out of the pass to do what little he could.

...

「In the wildlands.」

Su Mu was riding on the back of a Cyan Eagle, his hands locked tightly around its neck. He refused to let go, no matter how it thrashed about in the air.

The two had been locked in a stalemate for several days.

Both Su Mu and the Cyan Eagle Demon were nearly out of strength.

Now, it was a contest of who had the stronger will.

「Several days earlier.」

The Cyan Eagle Demon had descended from the sky, intending to ambush Su Mu.

By the time Su Mu noticed, it was already too late to dodge.

In the blink of an eye,

The Wind and Thunder Wings snapped shut around him, blocking the Cyan Eagle’s sharp talons.

With a teeth-grating screech of metal, sparks flew from the Wind and Thunder Wings.

Su Mu’s legs were driven deep into the ground.

But Su Mu had still managed to block the Cyan Eagle’s ambush.

The immense force left Su Mu’s chest feeling tight and constricted.

He ignored the discomfort, and with a flash of his Wind and Thunder Wings, he shot into the sky.

Relying on the Wind and Thunder Wings, he began an aerial battle with the Cyan Eagle Demon.

This Cyan Eagle Demon was a Tier Four Demon. The moment they clashed, Su Mu was completely routed.

A Tier Four Demon was comparable to a human Core Formation Realm Martial Artist, a full two realms higher than Su Mu.

Even with his Physical Divine Techniques and Perfect Realm, Su Mu was no match for a Tier Four Demon.

If it weren’t for the Profound Soldier Wind and Thunder Wings, he wouldn’t even have been qualified to contend with the Cyan Eagle Demon.

In the ensuing chase, Su Mu nearly fell victim to the Cyan Eagle Demon’s talons several times.

Seeing he couldn’t shake his pursuer, the ferocity in Su Mu’s bones was ignited.

Using the agile positioning of his Wind and Thunder Wings, he leaped onto the Cyan Eagle Demon’s back and locked his arms around its neck.

And that led to the current stalemate.

Su Mu clung tightly to the Cyan Eagle Demon’s neck, refusing to let go no matter how it struggled. Even when the demon’s explosive power made him cough up blood repeatedly, he gritted his teeth and endured it with his Indestructible Golden Body.

Though his hands were occupied, one mustn’t forget that Su Mu still had his Wind and Thunder Wings!

The Wind and Thunder Wings continuously whipped the Cyan Eagle Demon’s back, leaving behind bloody welts.

Although each strike didn’t inflict much damage, the injuries were accumulating.

After several days of this, the Cyan Eagle Demon had also grown weaker and weaker.

”So what if I can’t beat that giant body of yours? I have the Indestructible Golden Body. You can’t kill me.”

Su Mu said through gritted teeth, ”Let’s see who can last longer!”

The Cyan Eagle Demon let out a sharp screech, its eyes filled with fury.

It kept spiraling in the air, trying to throw Su Mu off.

But Su Mu’s arms were like cast iron, refusing to let go.

And when it spun too violently, that pair of steel wings would cover its eyes!

The Cyan Eagle Demon felt incredibly aggrieved.

’I just wanted to enjoy a delicious meal of flesh and blood, how did it end up like this?’

’Why is this human so difficult?’

”I won’t eat you! Let me go!”

The Cyan Eagle Demon had never learned human speech, nor could it use telepathy. It could only cry out, ”SKREEE! SKREEE!”

But Su Mu couldn’t understand its language at all and thought it was just squawking defiantly.

WHAP! WHAP!

The Wind and Thunder Wings continuously struck the Cyan Eagle Demon’s back.

Given Su Mu’s condition, a very irritable mood was now setting in.

He knew this was the influence of the Demonic Qi.

The Demonic Qi was already starting to affect his emotions. If this continued, he too would succumb to demonic corruption.

But he had no other choice right now.

The moment he let go of this Cyan Eagle, he would be no match for the Tier Four Demon in a direct confrontation.

Only by wearing this Cyan Eagle Demon down to its death could he safely leave the wildlands.

Now he could only gamble that the Cyan Eagle Demon would give out before he succumbed to the demonic corruption.

’I was too confident and underestimated the demons of the wildlands. The Demon Court hasn’t even made a move, and a single wild demon is about to take my life,’ Su Mu thought to himself.

Without Ao Qing by his side, his Cultivation was nothing in the wildlands.

Any random Tier Four Demon could take his life.

His journey so far had been too smooth, making him forget just how dangerous the wildlands were.

’If I make it back alive this time, I’m definitely going to lay low for a while. I’ll break through to the True Essence Realm, and I won’t come back to the wildlands again until I’ve comprehended a phenomenon.’

Su Mu secretly made up his mind.

His vision started to go black, and his hands subconsciously tightened their grip.

’I’m reaching my limit.’

Su Mu knew this clearly.

If he couldn’t wear down the Cyan Eagle Demon before then, he would be the one to die.

Su Mu’s consciousness was even starting to blur.

He didn’t have time to think. He summoned his system panel, and though he could barely make out the words, he tapped on the Thunder Shock Realm.

HUM!

A flood of insights regarding the Thunder Shock Realm rushed into his mind.

Su Mu didn’t even have time to comprehend them fully. He frantically activated the Thunder Shock Realm, using it to power his Wind and Thunder Wings.

The Profound Soldier Wind and Thunder Wings were powered by the Xun Wind Realm and the Thunder Shock Realm.

Previously, Su Mu’s Xun Wind Realm was at the Great Success Realm, while his Thunder Shock Realm was only at the Minor Success Realm.

Thus, the full power of the Wind and Thunder Wings had not been unleashed.

Instantly, the Thunder Shock Realm at the Great Success Realm made the lightning swirling around the Wind and Thunder Wings even more ferocious.

CRACKLE! SIZZLE!

The lightning coursed through the Cyan Eagle Demon’s body.

The Cyan Eagle Demon’s feathers instantly stood on end.

It let out a miserable shriek and then plummeted from the sky.

Its massive demonic body slammed heavily onto the ground.

The powerful impact made Su Mu’s hands finally lose their grip on the Cyan Eagle Demon’s neck.

He tumbled off the Cyan Eagle Demon’s back, landing right in front of it.

Su Mu gave a wry smile in his heart. ’Did I just shoot myself in the foot?’

Forcing himself to his feet, Su Mu prepared to make one last struggle.

But then, the Cyan Eagle Demon lowered its head before him, in a posture of submission.

Su Mu froze for a moment before understanding the Cyan Eagle Demon’s intention.

”Is it... submitting?”

Su Mu was a little surprised. He had never subdued a demon before.

With Ao Qing, it was more of a mutually beneficial arrangement, not true subjugation.

Even now, he and Ao Qing only had a cooperative relationship; Ao Qing was not his Demon Pet.

Su Mu had heard of people subduing demons before, but he didn’t know how it was done.

Even now, he didn’t understand why this Cyan Eagle Demon had submitted.

But not understanding didn’t mean Su Mu didn’t know what to do.

”If you submit, I can spare your life.”

Su Mu reached out and stroked the Cyan Eagle Demon’s lowered head as he spoke.

The Cyan Eagle Demon nodded its head vigorously.

It had actually understood Su Mu’s words.

Su Mu was overjoyed, filled with a sense of accomplishment.

”From now on, your name will be Garuda. Now, take me somewhere.”

Using the last of his strength, Su Mu leaped onto the Cyan Eagle Demon’s back, patted it, and spoke.
