Corpse Burier: I Can Nourish Corpse

However, on second thought, given that the Side Peak Elder of the Demon-slaying Department is none other than Chen Daoqing’s grandfather, it is quite reasonable for Li Qing to come and celebrate.

Li Qing immediately noticed Wen Jiu and a flash of surprise crossed his eyes; he thought he might never see Wen Jiu again.

After all, Wen Jiu is now Elder Ye Chen’s direct disciple, the thirty-first Inspector of the Inspection Hall, and a great personage residing at the summit of the main peak, closest to Deadman Peak. Why would he attend such a ceremonial banquet?

”Greetings, Inspector!”

Li Qing hastened forward to bow in greeting.

Their roles had quietly reversed.

From Wen Jiu respectfully greeting, it became Li Qing respectfully greeting.

As Li Qing spoke, the cultivators who came to congratulate Chen Daoqing at the apprenticeship banquet, as well as the Demon Slayer Envoy from the Demon-slaying Department, all turned their heads. They did not know what Wen Jiu looked like before because Wen Jiu had been in seclusion since entering the sect.

Seeing Li Qing suddenly bow and Wen Jiu being so young, they couldn’t help but realize that this person was Wen Jiu.

”Wen Jiu!”

”He actually came.”

”Chen Daoqing is really discreet, never mentioning his relationship with Wen Jiu before. Now he can even invite Wen Jiu, who is so dedicated to his cultivation that he won’t even visit the Inspection Hall or Langhuan Blessed Land.”

Soon.

Murmurs filled the air.

More people came to greet Wen Jiu.

The Demon Slayer Envoy who took Chen Daoqing as a disciple stood up first and approached Wen Jiu very politely.

He was indeed an Inspector.

But Wen Jiu was not only an Inspector but also Elder Ye Chen’s direct disciple and the only person to enter both departments at Deadman Peak.

With these three identities, even if Wen Jiu were only at Qi Cultivation First Layer, his status could equal his own.

Even surpassing him!

”Inspector Wen, please have a seat!” The Demon Slayer Envoy of the Demon-slaying Department hastily made a gesture of invitation.

Wen Jiu could only manage a helpless smile.

He originally intended to just have a couple of drinks and leave.

But now he became the focal point.

For the next half an hour, toasts came one after another, even the Elder of the Demon-slaying Department at Feixian Peak, Chen Daoqing’s grandfather, came to toast, though his demeanor was cautious.

Wen Jiu understood.

Because the disparity in their statuses had grown so large.

Reflecting on his time at Feixian Peak, Wen Jiu felt a wave of emotions.

Once he was despised as part of the Heterodox Dao.

Now everyone greeted him as Inspector Wen with respect.

Indeed.

It’s comfortable staying within the sect.

When this thought crossed his mind, Wen Jiu also thought of the Ten Thousand Demon Abyss.

”I hope everything goes smoothly.”

Wen Jiu quietly spoke in his heart.

He no longer felt like drinking.

Wen Jiu promptly rose, ”Folks, continue at your leisure. I still have my master’s cultivation assignments to attend to, so I’ll take my leave first.”

”Inspector Wen, take care.”

”Inspector, take care.”

All the guests rose to see him off.

Having lived two lives, Wen Jiu had encountered big scenes before, remaining unflustered internally. Thinking about how he once had to reflect in front of the whole school assembly back in the day was far more overwhelming than this.

”Big brother, I’ll see you off.”

Chen Daoqing had always referred to Wen Jiu as Inspector Wen, to conceal the relationship between them from others.

But after drinking a bit, he slipped and called him ”big brother.”

Just those two words caused everyone present to pause.

Wen Jiu didn’t mind; letting some people know about his relationship with Chen Daoqing could also make things easier for Chen Daoqing, ”No need to see me off. Today is your apprenticeship banquet; I almost forgot to give you a gift.”

With that,

Wen Jiu took out a Tier One Middle Grade Protection Talisman.

Its value wasn’t very high.

But it showed his intentions.

Chen Daoqing happily accepted it and saw Wen Jiu to the door. There he asked, ”Big brother, the day after tomorrow I have a mission, and I don’t know when I’ll be back. Take care of yourself.”

”Where to?”

Wen Jiu enquired.

Chen Daoqing replied, ”I’m assisting the Demon Suppression Department to tackle the demons that escaped from the Blood Demon Abyss... If I can take down ten demons, I will be promoted to a full-fledged Demon Slayer, elevating my status further!”

”Be careful.”

Wen Jiu didn’t say much more.

But that Tier One Middle Grade Protection Talisman was well-given.

It could save his life at a critical moment.

...

Leaving the tavern, Wen Jiu went straight back home to continue the Corpse Nourishing.

Not wasting a single moment.

That very night, Elder Wu Xiu, whom the Great Elder had specifically requested, finally appeared.

Observing from a distance through his Yin Spirit, Wen Jiu immediately sensed Elder Wu Xiu’s cultivation at Qi Cultivation Eighth Layer, and noticed his identity as a Ghost Cultivator. This surprised Wen Jiu, as wasn’t there a recent upheaval with the Heterodox Dao at the main peak?

It’s said the Heterodox Dao higher-ups all defected.

Why was a Heterodox Elder still around?

When he used the Yin Spirit Technique, Wen Jiu understood; the other had condensed five extremely powerful Yin Spirits.

His Yin Spirit Technique hadn’t reached perfection, but due to his cultivation, any one of the five Yin Spirits was stronger than Wen Jiu’s combined three.

Soon after, the five Yin Spirits rushed into the Ten Thousand Demon Abyss, and in a moment heard a sentence.

”Great Elder, the True Spirit Divine Tree is fake, but the bad news is, this True Spirit Divine Tree is an accompanying True Spirit.”

Accompanying True Spirit?

Wen Jiu immediately perked up his ears to listen.

When the Great Elder inquired further, Wu Xiu explained, ”An accompanying True Spirit is another form of existence after the True Spirit Divine Tree is destroyed. It parasitically resides within a True Spirit Demon Body, accompanying a True Spirit Demon as it transforms into Tier Two. Once it transforms to Tier Two, the True Spirit Demon Race can summon the accompanying True Spirit through sacrifice and devour that parasitized Tier Two True Spirit Demon... Once that Tier Two True Spirit Demon is completely devoured, the accompanying True Spirit can transform into a true True Spirit Divine Tree!”

Having said that.

Wu Xiu furrowed his brow and spoke again.

This time, his tone was slow.

But weighty.

”Before my Yin Spirits were completely annihilated, I saw the entire True Spirit Demon Race offering sacrifices to the True Spirit Divine Tree.”

”The entire True Spirit Demon Race offering sacrifices to the True Spirit Divine Tree?” Eastern Celestial City immediately recalled what Wen Jiu said about the state beneath the abyss.

Indeed, there was a massive True Spirit Blood Pool beneath the abyss.

But previously they speculated it was just the True Spirit Demon Race nurturing the True Spirit Divine Tree, never considering a tribal sacrifice.

After all, for the past eight hundred years, they had never done such a thing.

Meanwhile, hearing Wu Xiu’s words, Xun Jiangxing and others’ expressions became increasingly grave.

Fortunately, Wu Xiu’s next words offered a glimmer of hope, ”I also saw that Tier Two True Spirit Demon. I don’t know how it crossed the array’s confinement to become Tier Two, but it is now frantically overextending its Demon Technique to feed the True Spirit Divine Tree, as if something is wrong with the True Spirit Divine Tree.”

Yet after saying this, Wu Xiu fell into contemplation, puzzled why something suddenly went wrong with the True Spirit Divine Tree, as when the Great Elder attacked with the array, wasn’t it consuming the True Spirit Essence Blood from the True Spirit Divine Technique?

But curiosity aside, Wu Xiu only felt it must be a heavenly blessing.

If the True Spirit Divine Tree was in its most perfect state, and then the Tier Two True Spirit Demon and the True Spirit Demon Race were completely devoured, the True Spirit Divine Tree could be reborn, very likely recreating the events from a hundred years ago, breaking through the array.

But now the True Spirit Divine Tree seemingly was damaged, forcing the Tier Two True Spirit Demon to overextend its Demon Technique to repair it.

To the extent that it couldn’t even maintain Tier Two stability.

Thus, right now is when the True Spirit Divine Technique and the True Spirit Demon are at their weakest, which gives them the opportunity for a counterattack.

Wu Xiu hurriedly said, ”Great Elder, that Tier Two True Spirit Demon has overextended its Demon Technique to repair the True Spirit Divine Tree, its rank has fallen, and it cannot maintain Tier Two strength. Now is our best chance to eliminate it!”

”Are you sure?”

Eastern Celestial City stared intently at Wu Xiu.

Wu Xiu nodded.

Then spoke again, ”I am willing to take the lead!”

Eastern Celestial City nodded, saying, ”Then first break this Blood Shield, and cause some loss to the True Spirit Divine Tree. Once the Blood Shield is broken, we all enter the abyss to deal with the Tier Two True Spirit Demon.”

The True Spirit Demon, while not entirely eliminable.

Can be killed.

Once killed.

Their realm will cease to exist.

As long as they can resolve that Tier Two True Spirit Demon, the fake True Spirit Divine Tree, and the True Spirit Demon Race will no longer be an issue.

[Helpless.

Only wrote nine thousand words before midnight.

Shameful.

Couldn’t reach ten thousand today.

But I believe, tomorrow, New Year’s Eve, for sure I can hit ten thousand!]
