Chapter 2927: Gas Supreme Aero

Date: Unspecified

Time: Unspecified

Location: Myriad Realms, Card World, Southern Region, Blossom District, Sky Blossom City

”Petra, are you planning to leave without greeting an old friend?” A deep, magnetic male voice echoed across the sky.

The voice wasn’t particularly loud, yet it resounded throughout the entire battlefield, reaching every corner of the Field. It effortlessly pierced the boundaries of the One Thousand Curse Fields as if the countless ruler-class curses simply didn’t exist.

For the first time since I had created the field, something from the outside had entered without my permission.

”Who the hell is your friend, you damned deadbeat?” Petra shouted back.

At the same time, she grabbed my arm and yanked me behind her, positioning herself between me and the sky as though she were trying to shield me from whatever was coming.

The sight was almost absurd. Petra acted like she didn’t care about me and was only tolerating me because of Bloodette, yet now she was acting like a mother when protecting her chick from a hungry dragon.

Meanwhile, her eyes darted across the heavens, searching for the source of the voice. The casual attitude she had maintained throughout the confrontation was nowhere to be seen. Every stone in her body was tense, and for perhaps the first time since I had met her, she looked genuinely nervous.

I had heard Petra and Aqualas casually mention the Sky God before, but I hadn’t expected such an extreme reaction from Petra the moment he was summoned.

Then again, after taking a closer look, I could understand why. Neither my One Thousand Curse Fields nor my Soul Pupils could locate him. The world remained exactly as it had been moments ago. The curse field covered everything. The soul pathways and rules within my domain were functioning normally. Yet there wasn’t the slightest trace of the Sky God’s presence: no aura, no energy fluctuations, no soul signature. There was nothing.

It was as if the owner of that voice didn’t exist and had somehow spoken from nowhere. Her reaction was warranted.

Anyone capable of hiding from my One Thousand Curse Fields was already dangerous. Someone who could ignore the perception of both my Soul Pupils and the One Thousand Curse Fields simultaneously was on an entirely different level.

For perhaps the first time since this confrontation began, I had encountered an opponent I couldn’t accurately measure—simply because I couldn’t find him. But knowing that Supreme Beings were the literal embodiments of rules, I knew this had to be a trick. A simple one, at that. The kind of trick that, once you finally see it, you can never unsee.

I believed that if I could figure out what rule I was dealing with, I would eventually discover a way to locate him. Before I could ask Petra, the atmosphere within the One Thousand Curse Fields began to distort.

The gray air rippled as if reality itself had become liquid. Countless currents twisted and converged toward a single point while Petra suddenly pointed at Aqualas and shouted in panic, ”Aqualas, how could you call this jerk of all people? I thought we were done with this lunatic!”

For a moment, even Aqualas looked slightly embarrassed.

”Petra, are you forgetting that you’re in my territory now?” the deep voice replied. ”You shouldn’t be so rude to your host.”

As the voice spoke, the surrounding gases rapidly condensed. The atmosphere itself seemed to come alive. Streams of vapor flowed together, weaving a humanoid figure from the air. His body was fluid and ever-changing, lacking a truly fixed shape. One moment he appeared solid like a cloud, the next he dissolved into a drifting mist before reforming again.

Unlike Aqualas, whose form resembled a living ocean, his body was composed entirely of gas and vapor. Wisps of cloud drifted from his shoulders and limbs, constantly dispersing and reforming without affecting his overall shape.

He was tall and lean, possessing an almost unreal beauty. Long strands of gaseous hair flowed behind him like the mane of a celestial horse, swaying even though there was no wind. His features were sharp and refined, carrying the effortless confidence of someone who had never doubted his place at the top of the world.

Most disturbingly, despite standing right before me, he still felt strangely absent. My Soul Pupils could finally see him and my One Thousand Curse Fields could perceive his form within them, yet both insisted that the figure before me was merely a collection of ordinary atmospheric gases.

Until he spoke. Only then could they notice a will in those seemingly collections of ordinary atmospheric gases.

It was an impossible contradiction. I immediately guessed he was using the same trick Aqualas used to infiltrate the city array undetected, to mask his presence. He was the Gas Supreme, Aero. Or, as Petra and Aqualas preferred to call him... The Sky God, Aero.

”Aero, shut up if you don’t want to die,” Petra snapped. Her words were fierce, but her body language told a completely different story.

She was still standing in front of me protectively, yet her grip on my wrist had tightened considerably. Her shoulders were tense, and she kept glancing toward the ground as if deeply regretting her decision to leave the safety of the land and fly into the sky.

”Ahem, Petra, you can’t talk to me like that anymore...”

”I said shut up,” Petra cut him off. ”I’ll talk to you however I want. If you can’t handle it, go cry me a rainstorm somewhere far away from here.”

The moment those words left her mouth, the atmosphere turned awkward. My eyes widened as I tried to make sense of what I was seeing.

Petra was clearly afraid of Aero. Not cautious or wary, scared for her and my life afraid.

Yet despite that fear, she seemed determined to provoke him at every opportunity. It was like watching someone poke a sleeping dragon with a stick while simultaneously closing their only escape route. The contradiction made no sense.

A quick glance around the battlefield revealed that Seraphina and Veerott looked equally uneasy. Both wore expressions filled with worry and panic. Even Aqualas, the very fool who had summoned Aero, appeared uncomfortable with the direction things were heading.

The Ocean Supreme looked far less confident than she had moments ago. It was becoming increasingly obvious that I was missing a very important piece of background information. Something significant enough that merely seeing Aero had everyone on edge.

”You... you...” Aero stammered. He was enraged to the point where, for several seconds, he couldn’t even form a complete sentence.

His body rapidly darkened as his emotions spiraled out of control. The pristine white vapor composing his form transformed into dense dark storm clouds. Arcs of lightning crackled through his body with increasing frequency.

The surrounding atmosphere trembled in response to his anger. Yet Petra remained completely unapologetic. If anything, she looked ready to insult him again.

Watching the exchange, a strange feeling crept up my spine. Within the One Thousand Curse Fields, I was confident in facing almost any challenge the Card World could throw at me. But for some reason, every instinct I possessed was screaming at me. One part of me wanted to cover Petra’s mouth before she could say another word. The other part wanted to grab her and run for my life.

Neither of my instincts filled me with confidence.
