”Who?”

At the sound of the voice, the Emissary of Light snapped toward it, already on guard and ready to fight.

But what he found left him stunned for a second.

A teenage girl lay sprawled sideways atop the massive head of a long white snake, as if it were nothing more than a resting couch. One hand propped up her head lazily, her posture relaxed, almost bored, and her other hand’s pink idly wiggled in her ear, staring at him with open irritation. It was apparent that she had been watching him the entire time.

Seeing that she had been there the entire time, yet he hadn’t sensed her at all, he blurted out the only thought that came to mind, ”How?”

”What the hell? Field Marshal, did you beat him into an idiot?” the girl mocked, her voice dripping with irritation as she glanced at the Emissary of Light. By then, the Field Marshal had caught up. The moment she saw the girl, her expression shifted to shock.

”Corey? What are you doing here?” Field Marshal Lorn asked, clearly caught off guard to find her right in front of the Emissary of Light.

Her gaze shifted to Lil’Baem. But the snake quickly looked away, avoiding her eyes. She didn’t dare meet the Field Marshal’s gaze. She knew she had made a grave mistake. But there was one thing she couldn’t change. She couldn’t go against her mother’s wishes. She was very weak to her tears.

Before Corey could respond, the Emissary of Light’s eyes narrowed, recognition dawning. The white snake beneath her should have been a dead giveaway. Instead of dwelling on how he had missed it, he began walking toward her, slow and deliberate.

At the same time, he subtly pressured the Field Marshal with his intent, making it clear that if she tried anything, he would kill the girl instantly. The warning was enough to force her to hold back.

Stopping a few steps away, he spoke with measured tone, ”You’re the girl who follows Dalton Wyatt around. I’ve heard he cares about you as much as his wives.”

Corey’s expression darkened immediately. She didn’t like a single word of that.

”You’ve got it all wrong,” she shot back. ”Wyatt follows me around. And he cares about me more than his girlfriends. Bros before hoes, baby.”

”That’s even better. Divine Enlightenment!”

The moment Corey was within range, the Emissary of Light acted without hesitation. He invoked the additional ability of his origin card, one that allowed him to turn others into his followers.

He moved before the Field Marshal could react. However, just as his ability descended onto Corey, a green flame erupted from her body, flaring up and burning his invading energy to nothing in an instant. At the same time, a gray mist burst outward, spraying directly toward the Emissary of Light.

The Emissary of Light immediately tried to shake off the gray mist, but it clung to him like a living thing. No matter what he did, it refused to disperse. Even when forced apart, it simply reformed and followed his movements.

Worse, it was eating away at him.

He was forced to channel faith continuously just to shield himself from its corrosion. He cycled through every method he knew to counter mist-based attacks, reinforcing each with faith energy, but none of them worked. The gray mist didn’t behave like anything he had encountered before.

What he didn’t know was that this mist originated from the primordial era. Its nature was far beyond anything of the current age, overwhelmingly dominant and resistant to all conventional means. Even his faith would struggle before it, unless he was prepared to spend a tremendous amount of it.

However, before he could do exactly that, the Field Marshal surged into the gray mist without hesitation.

In a single, decisive motion, she drove her fist straight through his chest. Then she moved again, precise and ruthless, striking every point within his body where she sensed divinity, crushing each one without pause. But to her shock, every time she crushed a fragment of divinity, it didn’t vanish. It split, each fragment rapidly growing into an entirely new divinity.

By the time she realized what was happening, there were already more than a thousand divinities within the Emissary of Light’s body for each divinity she crushed.

”What the hell is going on?” the Field Marshal blurted aloud, unable to contain her shock. She watched as the divinities poured out of him, his body resembling a shattered core, endlessly spilling radiant, crystal-like fragments as if it were a fountain that could not stop overflowing.

The Emissary of Light’s bloodstained face twisted into something grotesque as he began to cackle.

”My divinity is faith itself,” he said, his voice warped with madness. ”You can’t crush faith, not even with celestial force. Unless you erase the belief of every single one of my followers, I cannot die. Even if one person still believes in me, I will be reborn through their faith.”

His grin stretched wider, unhinged, as he declared, ”I am God—”

The Field Marshal drove her fist into his face.

”I don’t believe it,” she said coldly. ”I saw you. Back in the mystic domain, you were afraid of dying.”

She didn’t believe him for a second. She had witnessed his desperation firsthand. Under her starry mystic eyes, nothing about him had been hidden. His fear of death had been laid bare before them. And yet, here in the card world, he carried himself as if nothing could threaten him, as if death no longer applied to him.

That was when it clicked in her mind—this had something to do with spacetime. Out here, even when cornered by Lil’ Baem and her, he was certain he could win and won’t die. But in her mystic dimension, he had nearly spiraled in fear of death. Which meant one thing: there was something about the spacetime of her mystic domain that rendered his immortality meaningless.
