CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

The sky inside the Dimension Bead was a boundless expanse of swirling indigo and starlight, detached entirely from the flow of time in the outer world. Standing on a vast, seamless obsidian platform hovering within the dimensional pocket, three thousand Æthrynn Berserkers stood in rigid, silent ranks.

Caius stood before them, his cloak billowing in the realm’s still air. With a flick of his wrist, a storm of tiny, glowing spatial beads erupted from his fingers like shooting stars. The beads rained down upon the army with absolute precision, striking each of the three thousand warriors squarely between the eyes and sinking seamlessly into their foreheads.

Gasps echoed through the ranks as a strange, cooling warmth rushed from their foreheads through their bloodstreams.

”Those beads have already halted and begun purifying the rot in your bodies,” Caius’s voice echoed across the pocket realm, ringing with absolute authority. ”The corruption that was consuming your minds is now being channeled. Your rotten, decayed mana is slowly being healed and restructured. From this moment on, the rot will no longer destroy you, it will enhance every fiber of your muscle and bone.”

A rustle of obsidian feathers cut through the silence as the three-eyed spatial crow descended from the void, perching lightly upon Caius’s shoulder. Its central third eye burned with a sharp, cosmic luminescence, gazing down at the grey-skinned legion.

”This beast shall be your totem and your deity,” Caius declared, gesturing to the creature on his shoulder. ”The Three-Eyed Crow will watch over your path. As a mark of his favor, he grants you his blessing.”

The three-eyed crow let out a piercing, resonant cry that vibrated straight into the souls of the three thousand. A shower of shimmering, ink-black feathers detached from the crow’s wings, fanning out across the sky before plunging directly into the chests of the warriors.

The feathers dissolved into their mana cores. Instantly, a violent surge of dual mana flared across the platform. The black, corruptive rot inside them merged with Caius’s origin energy, converting their mana cores into a rare dual-mana hybrid, half brilliant white solar light, half deep, swirling spatial darkness.

Though their mana was reborn, their physical forms retained their fearsome, battle-scarred aesthetic. Their skin remained a pale, ghostly ash-grey, heavily streaked with pulsing black veins that now glowed with faint white and obsidian light beneath the surface.

”In this realm, you will cultivate,” Caius commanded. ”You will master the hybrid mana in your veins and adapt to the martial arts of the Crow.”

For seven full days inside the Dimension Bead, the three thousand trained without rest under the crow’s watchful gaze. They forged feathered obsidian mantles and crafted ceremonial bird masks inspired by ancient avian predators, adopting the deadly, fluid aerial martial style of the Ox-Neldë Muwan.

By the end of the week, the first wave of breakthroughs erupted across the ranks.

As a warrior breached their martial threshold, the single feather bonded to their core resonated, manifesting physically as a gleaming, ethereal feather woven into their dark mantles. One feather marked a master of the first breakthrough, a true warrior of the Black Crow.

Then, a massive shockwave of dual mana shattered the silence at the front of the formation.

A towering warrior named Ix-K’an, his ash-grey skin scarred from decades of fighting the Nerathil rot, roared as his core flared with blinding intensity. From his chest, a second ethereal feather materialized, floating upward and embedding itself into his mantle beside the first.

Ix-K’an dropped to one knee before Caius, his two obsidian feathers radiating a terrifying aura of spatial force and solar heat. He was the first to achieve two breakthroughs, standing above the rest as the supreme commander of the newly born Black Crow Warrior Society.

Caius looked down at Ix-K’an and the three thousand dual-mana warriors kneeling behind him, their feathered cloaks rustling like a storm of dark wings.

”Rise, Commander,” Caius said softly, his golden-and-obsidian eyes gleaming. ”The vanguard of the Red Realm is ready for war.”

Standing at the quiet edge of the obsidian platform, Old Bones watched the three thousand warriors drop to their knees in absolute, terrifying unison. The dark elf steward stood with his arms folded neatly within his sleeves, his sharp, dark eyes taking in the immense weight of what had just transpired.

In a single week within this compressed dimension, Caius had taken three thousand condemned souls, men and women rotting away at the absolute brink of death and madness, healed their decay, elevated their mana cores into an unheard-of dual-mana hybrid, and forged them into a fanatical elite vanguard loyal to the death.

In six hundred years of wandering the realms as an assassin and shadow broker, Old Bones had served self-proclaimed deities, megalomaniacal warlords, and ancient tyrants. Most demanded worship through fear or hollow lineage. But standing here, in the cold radiance of Caius’s origin energy and the shadow of the Three-Eyed Crow, a quiet, shuddering chill ran down Old Bones’s spine.

It was a feeling he rarely allowed himself to acknowledge, pure, overwhelming reverence.

On the surface, Old Bones offered dry retorts and teased Caius with sarcastic titles of God-King to keep his young master grounded, acting as the pragmatic steward who balanced Caius’s soaring ambitions with cold reality. But in the deepest, most sacred alcoves of his six-century-old heart, Old Bones knew the absolute truth.

Caius was not playing at divinity. He was not a tyrant wearing a golden crown. He was a true God-King, a sovereign who rewrote fate, bent spatial realms to his will, and turned dying trash into gods of war.

As Ix-K’an roared his allegiance and the three thousand Black Crows beat their feathered mantles against their chests, Old Bones stepped forward from the shadows. He bowed his head low toward Caius, not with the theatrical flair of his usual dry banter, but with a deep, silent fervor that burned hotter than any prayer spoken in the temples below.

”Three thousand dual-mana elite, fully purified and bound to your divine thread,” Old Bones murmured softly under his breath, a faint, rare smile gracing his dark features. ”A fine start for a true sovereign.”

Stepping forward from the shadow of the obsidian platform, a delegation of six-armed Arachne Weaversmiths descended into the pocket dimension, dragging heavy subterranean sleds laden with thousands of newly forged armaments.

Caius had issued strict orders regarding the realm’s logistics, refined metals and heavy iron were to be strictly conserved for the frontline phalanx legions. For these lightning-fast dual-mana strikers, the Weaversmiths had devised a far lighter, infinitely more lethal alternative using the indigenous materials of Æthrynn and their own unbreakable silk.

With practiced efficiency, the three thousand Black Crow warriors were fitted with their gears of war.

The Black Scaled Suit: A fitted body suit constructed not from iron, but from thousands of overlapping obsidian micro-scales. Each scale was woven and linked together by a dense, flexible Arachne silk thread lattice, providing complete resistance against piercing blades while remaining as light and fluid as skin.

The Crow Helm: A terrifying, avian-shaped helm forged from blackened volcanic glass and reinforced silk. Its narrow, slit-like eyeholes gleamed with dark intent, crowned at the crest with a sweeping ridge of stiffened black feathers.

The Chimalli Buckler: Round, lightweight shields constructed from layered hardwood and woven leather, bound in a thread-lattice weave for maximum shock absorption. Adorned with crow feather tassels and painted tribal runes, each shield mounted three forward-facing obsidian claws across its center, turning a simple defensive parry into a disemboweling strike.

The Macuahuitl: Their iconic close-combat weapon, a heavy, two-handed wooden club-sword lined along both edges with rows of razor-sharp obsidian blades. The Weaversmiths had reinforced the blade slots with an ultra-fine, thread-sharp lattice, preventing the brittle glass edges from shattering upon striking heavy armor.

Overlay Garments: Over their micro-scaled suits, each warrior was permitted to wear their choice of personal overlay garments, from dark hooded mantles to tribal sash belts, allowing their individuality as elite stalkers to shine beneath their uniform armor.

Ix-K’an pulled his crow helm over his face. The narrow eye slits flared with the dual radiance of golden solar light and obsidian spatial mana. He gripped his Macuahuitl, the weapon humming with terrifying energy as he tested its weight, then strapped the three-clawed Chimalli buckler to his left forearm.

Beside Caius, Old Bones inspected a section of the Arachne thread-lattice armor, running a finger along the microscopic obsidian scales.

”Brilliant logistical economy,” Old Bones murmured, an approving glint in his dark eyes. ”You save our precious iron stockpiles for the phalanx while equipping these savages with wargear lighter than steel, immune to rust, and sharp enough to cleave a man in half.”

”They don’t need heavy iron,” Caius replied, watching the three thousand transformed warriors lock their Macuahuitls against their Chimalli bucklers with a deafening, thunderous click. ”They are wind and shadow, light and rot. They need weapons that bite as fast as they strike.”

Ix-K’an raised his blade, his voice booming behind the narrow eye slits of his crow helm.

”Ox-Neldë Muwan! K’in-Anor, Ak’ab-Mórë!”

Three thousand grey-skinned, feather-crested specters roared back in unison, their obsidian blades gleaming under the artificial starlight of the pocket realm. The vanguard of the Red Realm was fully armed, bound, and ready to unleash hell upon the Mordrakh.
