Chapter 384: 384. Gunfight

After learning where the dream he was pulled into actually was, Lann decided to first check out the Hunter Workshop.

First of all, it’s very close to the chapel, which makes it convenient to visit.

Secondly, the old man who kept chattering in the dream and even tried to entice him to inject Yanyan’s Blood into himself...

Lann always felt that he was a difficult and dangerous guy.

At the end of the last dream, when he came out, he couldn’t remember what happened.

Now, understanding a bit more could make things smoother if he needs to take action in the future.

Lann found the elevator on one side of Oton Chapel.

This ladder operated by a mechanism looked like a platform, and it would start automatically when you stepped on the raised section in the center, lifting the rider up.

Lann ascended a distance of six or seven floors on the ladder, and upon looking down, he was on the same level as the ground floor of another tower.

The rooftop and the foundation being on the same plane was very characteristic of a Mountain City.

Along the way, there were several nondescript beast-like patients who had hidden in this tower at the start of the Hunter’s Night.

But this didn’t stop the plague from spreading; without enough incense, they couldn’t hold out, and soon all turned into hairy humanoid beasts.

A few patients held simple weapons like sabers and pitchforks, and in the corners of the tower, there were beast-like patients wearing top hats and wielding rifles.

These posed no real challenge.

Not to mention their muddled minds now; even if they were clear-headed, they wouldn’t cause Lann much trouble.

The gap in basic abilities can be supplemented with firepower, but a few single-shot rifles can’t really talk about suppressive fire.

Lann easily dealt with these beast-formed patients using the Lady of the Lake’s Sword and the small throwing knives at his waist, and then he prepared to venture into the darkness inside the tower.

But at that moment, the sound of metal gears turning came from within the dark of the tower.

The moment the Demon Hunter entered, his scalp tightened suddenly, and instinctively, without thinking, he dodged out of the stone door frame!

Next moment— ”Crash!”

Like the pelting rain of a torrential downpour, bullets clattered against the tower walls, with fragments of mercury bullets and broken wall pieces scattering everywhere!

The bodies of beast-formed patients that Lann had dealt with were suddenly like they were brushed over again by an iron brush, their already plague-thinned bodies shaved down another layer!

”A hand-cranked Gatling... Tsk, it really fits with the era’s backdrop.”

Lann clicked his tongue, standing outside the door frame.

The prototype of the Gatling machine gun appeared in the mid-nineteenth century, which fits the Victorian style architecture of Yan’an well.

This was originally an invention by a doctor, designed to cause massive casualties on the battlefield instantly to terrify enemy troops into surrendering, thus reducing overall war casualties.

However, since the doctor wasn’t a sociologist, he didn’t realize that for any normal country or power, after being stunned by a new technology, their thought wouldn’t be ’no more resistance.’

But rather ’if you have it, I must have it too.’

A new technology can gain an advantage in a single battle, but in larger fields, its effects are indeed limited.

Thus, an invention that was supposed to reduce casualties on the battlefield instead ignited an arms race in the firearms field.

It was just that Lann, in his time in Yan’an, had never seen a weapon of this grade and therefore hadn’t included it in his tactical plans.

But faced with unexpected ferocity of firepower, the young man remained unflustered, without instinctively breathing rapidly or thinking erratically.

On the contrary... his eyes were rational and calm, as if he had already witnessed fiercer gunfire and knew precisely how to handle such a situation.

Interstellar Warriors are enhanced soldiers of the Interstellar Era, and the Sons of the Emperor’s superb swordsmanship is merely a habit and inclination within the legion.

As part of the overall Interstellar Warrior cohort, they were also top-notch in gunfights.

Lann pulled up a corpse of a beast-formed patient from the ground beside him and threw it from one side of the door to the other.

Sure enough, the hand-cranked Gatling inside the room swept across following the corpse crossing the doorway.

The body was blasted into pieces by the string of mercury bullets, scattering like a torn doll, and the patient operating the gun realized he’d been fooled in less than a second.

Thus, the scorching line of gunfire again swung back to Lann’s side, carrying a momentum seemingly determined to shoot through the tower wall.

The gap in between lasted less than half a second, but for Lann, it was already a big enough tactical gap.

In his hand, an already-prepared Alchemy Bomb was reversed into the door in this gap by Lann.

The young man didn’t even bother to look back; he simply took action after silently counting down.

Nearly simultaneous with his movement, the Dancing Star alchemy bomb exploded into a dazzling white light inside the door.

The role of stun grenades in street alley gunfights is indisputable.

Lann let just a sliver of clothing show from outside the door right before the bomb exploded.

Sure enough, the line of fire from the hand-cranked Gatling swept towards it accordingly.

The gunman, in the final moment before getting blinded, saw the edge of Lann’s clothing and naturally assumed the target had begun sprinting and relocating.

But after the flash exploded, Lann was only halfway exposed within the door frame; his steps did not move at all.

The series of bullets from the hand-cranked Gatling merely grazed the air next to him, all missing their mark.

A small throwing knife prepared in his hand whizzed directly into the gunman’s forehead.

The gunfire ceased after that.

With the support of tactical thinking and tactical training, he counter-killed the opposing firepower suppression.

It was an old man sitting in a wheelchair, who had modified the hand-cranked Gatling onto his wheelchair.

Lann stepped up to the wheelchair, examined the heavy machine gun for a moment, and ultimately decided not to store it in his Alchemy Pouch.

A Hunter’s Pistol in Margaret’s hand could be seen as a ’pricey and impractical toy’ by warlocks. But if this item appeared on a battlefield, no nation’s generals and kings would likely refuse it.

Lann didn’t want to escalate the war intensity in the Magic World to that extent.

”This old man must have bled a lot to accumulate these mercury bullets.”

Lann clicked his tongue at the ammo box placed on the old man’s wheelchair.

Insufficient blood quality, compensated with ammunition quantity.

And within this prolonged night, the old man’s ammo box was already nearly empty.

Yet, the dawn representing peace never came, until everyone here was infected with the beast plague.

Lann didn’t linger; he started to explore beneath the foundation of the tower.

The wooden beams and walkways inside the tower were mostly decayed, fitting Erin’s statement that the ’Hunter Workshop has long been hidden and sealed.’

If Lann were an ordinary Yan Nan Hunter, he’d likely face the risk of breaking a leg, jumping down these beams one by one.

But luckily, the skills learned from the Ninja proved to be seamlessly applicable in this scenario.
