Bear School Astartes

Chapter 187: 187. Vitality

”I can understand a warrior’s concern for the crystal cultivation project; it almost represents the continuation of a career.”

Tishaya maintained her usual rationality and calmness, guiding the direction of the conversation.

”But again, although your theory is reasonable, it is too aggressive. It requires long-term research and validation.”

The injury rate in the warrior profession has always been an unbearable number.

The human body’s regenerative capability has a limit, and it is not a high one.

A severe illness can reduce the physical limit of a robust adult by twenty percent. If it’s ligament rupture, muscle tear, bone dislocation, or misplacement, the probability of causing irreversible damage is high.

A complete injury means there is no chance of ever returning to the peak.

For a professional soldier, their physical peak might be precisely before their first battle.

If one’s body bears lasting damage, unless they have no other way to earn a living than through this deadly job, most will retire from combat professions.

Demon Hunters are superior to ordinary people in their extraordinary physical regeneration capabilities.

After drinking the magic potion, these old injuries generally do not significantly affect them. But in the case of limb amputation or extensive burns, even a Demon Hunter’s regenerative ability is powerless.

But if the crystal cultivation project achieves applicability, it would be akin to significantly enhancing a Demon Hunter’s regenerative capabilities!

The limb reattachment surgeries that can cripple ordinary people would be just a slightly larger cut to a Demon Hunter.

Tishaya thinks Lann desires this ’insurance,’ intending to render the technology practical within a two-month deadline.

Lann was pleased by Tishaya’s misunderstanding of his intent, so he did not counter her.

”In the findings I provided you, I stated my theory—the theory that ’organ regeneration is constrained by the theory of high cellular differentiation’ is correct, and you should sense it given your ability.”

Lann rested his elbow on the armrest, supporting his chin with his hand, gazing at Tishaya across the table.

The former dean nodded slightly.

”If you hadn’t given me those two research outcomes, I wouldn’t have given you the opportunity to discuss research projects here. Your talent and insight are unparalleled, and indeed this theory is refreshing. But Lann...”

”Every experimental direction shift costs something, and not cheaply. From a researcher’s intuition, I agree with your theory. But I can’t change the current established research direction based on ’intuition.’ Even if you persuade me, the many researchers involved in the experiment won’t agree.”

”That’s why I don’t expect them to agree.”

Lann said lightly, causing a slight frown on Tishaya’s calm face.

”Experiment participation is limited to within Airetusa, and I will personally fund the experimental materials.”

”Just to validate your possibility? Even if only the academy’s laboratories participate, it’s still three thousand Oren per experiment.”

Tishaya leaned forward, earnestly looking at the young man.

”Lann, even if the idea is correct, you need at least five experiments to complete the fine adjustments and form a specific process. The cost of fifteen thousand Oren—do you have that much money on you?”

”I’ve lived a long time, Lann. I know the pride inside you young men; you won’t ask Rita.”

”If you truly worry about journeys through different worlds, converting this money into combat power is far more reasonable than investing in such an experimental money pit. High-end alchemical experiment projects aren’t something one person can sustain.”

Tishaya’s level is indeed worthy of her status and reputation.

As one of the most powerful Mages among humanity, her necessary experiment number is not far off from Lann’s own estimate.

However, she cannot calculate one point: she doesn’t understand the origin of the knowledge in Lann’s mind, nor the extent of his biochemical knowledge talent.

”I still have some money on me, and Airetusa should accept unfamiliar types of Gold Coins, correct? I estimate I can limit the number of experiments to three or less.”

Tishaya’s lips curled slightly as she stared at Lann’s amber cat eyes for a while.

”You’re indeed confident, Little Demon Hunter... since you intend to self-fund to advance the research, I have no reason to stop you. Airetusa Academy has wide associations; as long as the Gold Coin content is sufficient, we have no rules against accepting them.”

”The laboratory will be ready by tomorrow, you should start preparing.”

Lann nodded at Tishaya and stood up to leave.

Outside the dean’s office, Margaret leaned against the door, waiting for him.

”Did the teacher agree with you?”

In the candlelight of the corridor, the faintly visible curves of her body were alluring.

Lann was already immune to this.

”Yes, we can start tomorrow.”

”Before that, Rita... I need you to do me a favor first.”

-----------------

In an unused Alchemy Classroom, Margaret was using a levitation spell to move the ’Balerion’ jawbone that Lann brought from another world onto the table.

The dragon bone is relatively light, but its size is unmanageably large for transport.

”You didn’t call me over just to cast a levitation spell, did you?”

Margaret, while moving the dragon bone, neither used incantations nor even basic finger movements.

A normal Warlock requires a series of actions to reinforce their psychological suggestion, but she didn’t even lift her eyes from Lann’s profile.

If it were not for the undulating Chaos Magic Power, no one could tell Margaret was casting a spell.

The Warlock who becomes a dean far surpasses ordinary Warlocks in magical attainments.

Lann was adjusting the crucible and a series of instruments and materials for magic potion brewing at this time.

This brewing did not follow any magic potion formula known in this world, being entirely Lann’s own creation.

On the path of Alchemy, Belengar revealed the Demon Hunters’ worldview of Alchemy to Lann.

Meanwhile, the classrooms and libraries of Airetusa Academy introduced him to the other path of Alchemy infused with Magic Power.

With the foundation and breadth of knowledge, Lann’s level has already surpassed that of most Warlocks.

His advanced biochemical talent, having absorbed sufficient nutrition, will naturally blossom and bear fruit.

”Rita, the difficulty of cultivating organ tissue on crystals lies in the high degree of cellular differentiation, which affects the cells’ inherent regenerative capacity.”

Lann adjusted the instruments and materials, focusing his gaze while his mind continuously revised and perfected the refining process with Mentos.

”According to the normal method, we should regress organ cells to a less differentiated state before retracing the path of ’cell cultivation, differentiation and growth.’”

Margaret had neither interest nor talent in Alchemy; she just liked watching Lann’s serious profile.

”Then your point is?”

”My point is... Thank the great Alchemy, which makes extracting the vague ’growth power’ from matter possible.”

”Since internal organ cells’ regenerative power is compromised due to high differentiation...”

Lann stroked the sinisterly dragon jawbone, his face displaying a satisfied smile.

”We just need to fill it with growth power!”
