Bear School Astartes

Chapter 99: 99. The Power of Terror

The men Ubank brought along held military-grade crossbows, nocked arrows, and aimed at Lann, ready to take a life with a single trigger pull.

The trigger of the crossbow was pulled, the spring responded, and the arrow shot out, all within less than 0.3 seconds.

So, after Lann displayed his murderous intent, these trained individuals fired their crossbow arrows without hesitation.

But these arrows, which should have pierced through heavy armor and into muscle, had no opportunity to shed blood in this room.

—Because a large shadow seemed to rise from the ground!

It was the table in the room.

One meter eighty long, one meter twenty wide, solid wood jointed, just at first glance, weighing no less than fifty kilograms!

Of course, a group of people confidently pointing crossbows at someone wouldn’t ignore such a fine cover.

And this was actually why Ubank immediately walked to the table and sat down after entering the room.

He had witnessed Lann’s single-hand somersault in heavy armor when he slaughtered in Velen.

Single-hand push strength close to two hundred kilograms!

Yes, that’s terrifying, indeed.

But human movement is about the process of accumulating strength and the posture of movement.

Ubank knew the performance of his subordinates’ weaponry all too well.

In less than 0.3 seconds, these crossbow arrows could be on the opponent.

And Lann?

This thick wooden table was positioned just below Lann’s waist.

To lift it, he would need to slightly bend, then use abdominal and waist strength, tighten his arms... could such a series of actions be completed in such a short time?

Moreover, this posture was not suitable for exertion; it would be remarkable if Lann could use fifty percent of his strength.

At least a fifty-kilogram table weight, Ubank planned to pounce on and hold down the table as soon as Lann showed any sign of resistance.

That combines to a weight of one hundred fifty kilograms!

How could you possibly move it?

So, in Ubank’s eyes, the best time for Lann to resist was before he sat down at the table.

If he had the resolve, he should have flipped the table, drawn his sword, and attempted close combat using the cover.

But when he stood beside this table, the situation was basically settled.

Flipping a hundred fifty kilograms in 0.3 seconds in a posture unsuitable for force?

Even for a Demon Hunter, it’s impossible!

But when Lann actually began to act, Ubank, who was trying to press down the table, clearly realized one fact.

”This strength... I can’t hold it?!”

”Impossible?!”

The Skellige giant lying on the solid wood table, eyes wide as saucers.

He was already trying his hardest to press his entire body weight onto the table.

The whole man lay on the table like a bear.

But when a force surged from the table’s edge upwards, he couldn’t feel any of his flesh, bones, or armor weight providing... even the slightest resistance to the force!

The genetic seed coordinated the activity of most of the body’s organs, with lung and heart function performance soaring! Muscle movement efficiency became even more terrifying and savage under hormonal stimulation!

Lann’s left hand gripped the edge of the table, the entire arm’s muscles swelling and bulging.

The Bear School’s high-grade armor, with the links and buckles of the armor plates, suddenly tightened with a ”Clack!” sound!

The muscle movement coordinated by the genetic seed, with the whole body’s full exertion, was much faster than even 0.3 seconds!

The over one hundred fifty kilograms of mass was flipped as if they were paper under Lann’s single-handed lift!

Three dull ”Thud” sounds.

The wooden table hadn’t even hit the ground, and the crossbow arrows were already embedded in it.

The training level of these crossbowmen was clearly not low.

They didn’t fire all ten arrows at once; instead, they consciously maintained batch shooting.

But against a table shield one meter eighty long by one meter twenty wide, this level of training was still too simplistic.

The items on the table flew, Gant Odim’s gift pages fluttered in the wind, and Ubank, on the table, found himself trying to curl up to avoid injuries from arrows.

The table hadn’t hit the ground when Head Eater felt another savage force pushing through from the table’s backside!

With a loud ”Thud!,” Lann’s foot lifted up in mid-air before the table fell.

This object, over one hundred fifty kilograms, under this foot’s force, flew parallel to the ground!

The inn’s room wasn’t big, and the flying table board covered almost seven or eight people in front of Lann!

”Bang!”

Seven or eight weaponed men, along with Ubank, were directly slammed against the wall by the flying table board!

The inn room’s beams sent down a spray of dust.

The air was physically squeezed out of their lungs, turning their faces a dark purple, their mouths agape trying to gasp, but the impacted lungs couldn’t recover right away.

They were like live fish dragged ashore.

Forget about drawing swords or loading crossbows; they were scrambling, trying to push the table off, or clutching their chests, just hoping to catch a breath of fresh air.

The immediate threats in front had been neutralized, but there were still threats on both sides!

With several ”Whoosh” sounds, activated crossbow arrows sliced through the air, heading straight for Lann’s head and neck.

These areas were left unprotected by armor.

The crossbowmen now completely believed what Ubank had warned before entering.

—The Demon Hunter is not human!

His strength was already proven, single-handedly flipping objects over a hundred kilograms as if they were paper!

So the reports of him using a longsword or gauntlet to deflect direct-firing crossbow arrows had to be true!

Hence, the crossbowmen tacitly fired all the remaining arrows.

Four crossbow arrows, each with enough kinetic energy to pierce a few millimeters into plate armor!

In a normal person’s eyes, these arrows would seem like birds swiftly flying through the air!

But in Lann’s vision, even with just peripheral vision, these arrows didn’t appear particularly fast.

Studded gloves flashed like a dark shadow in mid-air, and the two arrows coming from the left were caught mid-air with an abrupt leathery pull.

The two on the right merely grazed past, brushing against his clothes.

Instead, wretched luck befell a person across who got shot in the shoulder, the crossbow arrow’s kinetic force sent him staggering, and blood trickled down his armor.

Lann’s expression remained calmly unfazed, unlike one who’s killing; his eyes cleared the battlefield situation in an unnoticed instant.

Threatless ones were bypassed, and crossbows in the process of being loaded weren’t urgent.

The immediate need was facing a completely panicked foe, terror driving him to hurl his longsword like a projectile.

No matter how much he practiced, he’d be no threat to Lann, but a misaimed sword could injure Alia behind Lann.

The arrows in his hand were slightly adjusted and thrown out.

The ”Whoosh” sound of arrows slicing through the air matched that of crossbow-fired arrows!

A moment later, the crossbow arrows were embedded in the opponent’s face.

Strong impact force pierced through the skull, sending the man’s formerly inclined head jerking backwards, nailing him to the wall!

After hurling the arrows, Lann perfectly pivoted and kicked a nearby stool sliding toward a crossbowman about to finish loading.

The shinbone impact made him lunge forward face first.

But before he hit the ground, a large hand caught him face up from below.

The crossbowman’s eyes bulged with terror as if about to pop from his sockets, and the next second... ”Bang!”

The nearly falling body was lifted, the head smashed straight into the wall!

The solid inn wall had a human head embedded in it.
